Out here in CA a homeowner policy does not cover earthquake damage, unless the owner opts for a veeeeeery expensive earthquake provision that has a huge (like k) deductible.
Yet in FL, LA, AL, TX and MS hurricane insurance is a covered provision — and home insurance is relatively cheap — although portions of these states are now routinely getting hammered by devastating hurricanes and it's happening more and more frequently?
I'm curious because it's not the local gulf-state population that pays for all the reconstruction — it's every homeowner who carries a policy with that company no matter where in the USA they are actually located.
I'm a nurse but rather than volunteering, I'd like to work for an organization that would send me around the world wherever there is a need for assistance in the event of a disaster. Does anyone know of such an organization?
This rare footage of a violent F5 tornado was captured on April 26, 1991 near Red Rock, OK, shot by Warren Faidley. Faidley, recently called America’s “Top Storm Chaser” by MSNBC, is one of the few journalists and professional photographers who has witnessed and survived both an F-5 tornado and a category 5 hurricane. Warren is a best-selling author, motion picture consultant (Twister) and has appeared as a news consultant for CNN and Fox News. He is recognized as one of the top hands-on …
Wer’e about to see a spike in gas prices. Actually it’s already started.
The more we depend on offshore drilling the more vulnerable to hurricanes our energy supply becomes. A DRILL DRILL DRILL future is a future of ever increasing and volatile gas prices.
Can you demand deposit back after a certain amount of time, and tell contractor to forget about the order? (Hurricaine Windows). I don't want them anymore!
I'm thinking about getting hurricane shutters for my house in Palm Beach county and want to know what kind to get and if anyone knows of a company with a good reputation to do the install.

Some of my many questions: How badly did Hurricane Katrina affect New Orleans Mardi Gras? Did St. Louis take over the #1 spot in 2006? How did each city rank in popularity and size in 2006? Are there projections for 2007?
My grandmother lives in the Lady lakes area, and that is a long distance call from where I live. When we try to call, it says that it cannot connect us because of an emergancy in the area, or that all lines are busy. I am very worried, and have looked through the Yahoo! Photo Albums of the tragedy. I live where I cannot access her by travel. How can I find out if she is okay?
I recently came across this video blog on youtube where this girl was ranting about why in the F*** should taxpayers have to pay for those who chose not to leave before Hurricane Ike hit Texas.I thought she was way out of line and showed not even an ounce of compassion for human life and the well being of others.I live in Houston, although we didn’t suffer that much damage other than a couple of nights without power thankfully. When Rita and Katrina hit, our city and surrounding cities opened up our hearts, our homes and our wallets to help out any way we could. There are still a lot of the same people here who chose to call Houston home but some are still getting help from the government with housing and food stamps. My point is that no matter who or what,we still have to pay taxes like it or not.Check this out. What do you think. Go to youtube and look for “re-ur a slut”.This person makes such a fool of herself with the way she talks about people.
Oh,I wouldn't say I was being naieve.I understand that folks need to try to get their lives back on track but there are actually people here who really need the help. Some have been out of work since the storm hit due to no power yet when they go ask for help they get turned down because they're told they "make too much money" and don't qualify for any help at all. Then we have those people here from Louisianna still standing in lines asking for assistance and getting it then driving off in their expensive cars to their new HUD homes. My friend has four kids and was turned away because her husband makes too much yet,he works in a building with no power for the past two and a half weeks. They still have no power at home.
We are thinking of travelling to Puerto Rico this Fall. How is October? Is November better or worse? Is hurricane season a significant risk?
Websites seems to say that November is still hurricane season, but biggest risk is in August, September and October. Anyone have any experience with this?
I filmed this footage in Windsor on May 22, 2008. This massive EF 4 tornado came with baseball sized hail and 200 mph winds. This footage was used on Dateline NBC, nationally on ABC affiliates, and will be featured in a Discovery Channel Special on Tornados. Please contact me if you are interested in obtaining a copy of the footage.
I am a senior in college and feel God calling me to a ministry in disaster relief. I am having trouble finding an organazation that will pay someone for anything besides office work. I want to be right in the middle of helping people. Does anyone have any suggestion about where to look? I didn't know what category to put this question in.
