Good Luck
Good Question Freight. But let me Comment to WR first.
WR I have done this other ways and it amazes me that most people do have a basic understanding. and alot of the answers are fair to good.
To Freight I am documenting the Questions and Answers and compiling them for Education and Public Awerness
The Reports will go to NOAA, Media Outlets, Schools and Other Interested Parties so that they know where to concentrate there educational resources to help the General public in Safety Awerness.
And Again to WR and Freight Thanks for moderating the forum for me. I hope we can get 1of Shelby and Mr. Weather in here to to assist You guys really know your stuff Mabey I will come up with a really hard question for you guys and it will require some serious research. Again Thx for Moderating

F5 Oklahoma tornado May 3rd, 1999 Tape was lost but few years later found by the press (Edit : Got a typo here. Typed May 30 instead of May 3rd. Sorry)

(not precisely a question)
We got hammered with snow last night! It’s taller than my dogs. I thought all of us answerers could compile some tips for dog owners who are faced with piles of snow, ice, etc!

Shorter trips outside, more frequently.
Wipe off paws after walking to remove salts, ice bits, melting chemicals
For outside dogs, make sure their shelter is dry and their water unfrozen
If you have the energy, dig them a path in the yard for them to run and do their business.
Find which side of the house has less snow drifted, so that it isn’t so hard on the short ones.

Any other extreme weather tips?
All this snow is in the middle of Missouri, where we’re not used to it!
My dogs are inside, but I know some people don’t do that. Lab loves the snow, schnauzer hates it. Parent’s Sheltie is an outside dog, and doesn’t want to come in at all. She’d pick snow drift over fireplace rug anytime.

Do you think that its weird that i want hurricane Dean to hit miami? My reasons are that hopefully it will delay the start of school. And it gives people an opportunity to repair aging homes and buildings. I also like preparing for the hurricane by going out and buying supplies I know that houses in miami wont fall apart because most are up to code and we dont do that plywood stuff that is done upstate we build with concrete and cement……do any of you "yahoo answer’s" get excitment out of hurricanes..?
Hurricane andrew destroyed whatever falling apart homes and poorly built houses…the last hurricane New orleans got was 50 years earlier…no offense but here miami alot of people take precautions and there are shelters in every corner…in even hurricane andrew there was not many fatalities..
thank u angelluv my heart dropped when he said that it would not hit…hehe at least there is hope…no school!lol

I need a 2 paragraph summary on this article and I’m stumped! I have one day to do this and I have an E! Omg help please!
Here’s the article:
Global warming is shorthand for "climate change," and the term is correct if you realize that it’s referring to the average temperature of the Earth over years and decades; not to the temperatures at particular times and places.

"Climate change" is a much better term because much more than warming is involved, although the changes first begin with the globe’s average warming. This average warming can cause changes in patterns of rainfall. It can lead to more snow piling up in places such as Antarctica and Greenland, and it can even include some parts of the Earth growing colder.

Scientists have managed to figure out a general, fairly detailed picture of the Earth’s climate going back more than 100,000 years, before the beginning of the last ice age.

This history shows that temperatures of different parts of the Earth, and even the Earth’s average temperature, have swung widely in the past into and out of ice ages, long before humans could have affected the climate.

Still, climate scientists say the evidence is strong that humans are responsible for much of the warming since early in the 20th century.

There’s no doubt that the amount of carbon dioxide in the air — a "greenhouse" gas — has increased. This increase in a greenhouse gas is bound to "force" the climate in one direction or another with a general warming being one of the effects.

Climate scientists also have strong reasons for saying that as humans continue adding gasses to the air, warming is likely to continue through this century.

Many questions remain to be answered. These include how much of the warming to date has been caused by humans, how much is natural. Only estimates offering wide ranges of how much the climate should warm during this century are available.

Many questions remain about the effects of a generally warmer climate.

While climate scientists don’t agree on all of the points made, a recent report issued by working groups (or committees) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the best place to begin understanding the current state of climate change science. The IPCC, which is made up of scientists from 113 countries, was created by the U.N. in 1988 and releases its assessments every five or six years.

The report by the world’s top climate scientists said global warning was "very likely" man-made and would bring higher temperatures and a steady rise in sea levels for centuries to come regardless of how much the world slows or reduces its greenhouse gas emissions. "Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widspread melting of snow and ice, and rising global mean sea level," said the IPCC report.

Here are some of the primary findings of the IPCC report:

THE CAUSE: Global warming is "very likely" caused by man, the strongest conclusion to date.

THE OUTLOOK: Now that the world has begun to warm, hotter temperatures and rises in sea level "would continue for centuries" no matter how much humans control their pollution.

TEMPERATURE CHANGE: The panel predicted temperature rises of 2°F-11.5°F by the year 2100. That was a wider range than in the 2001 report. However, the panel also said its best estimate was for temperature rises of 3.2°F-7.1°F. In 2001, all the panel gave was a range of 2.5°F-10.4°F.

SEA LEVELS: The report projected rises of 7-23 inches by the end of the century. An additional 3.9-7.8 inches are possible if recent, surprising melting of polar ice sheets continues.

HURRICANES: An increase in hurricane and tropical cyclone strength since 1970 "more likely than not" can be attributed to man-made global warming. The scientists said global warming’s connection varies with storms in different parts of the world, but that the storms that strike the Americas are global warming-influenced.

The report notes that no global changes have been noted during the 20th century in terms of the numbers of storms or their strength. "No systematic changes in the frequency of tornadoes, thunder days, or hail events are evident in the limited areas analyzed."

While snow cover and sea ice in the Northern Hemisphere are expected to continue decreasing, and glaciers should continue retreating, (as they did during the 20th century) the Antarctic ice sheet should grow. This is because warmer air can hold more humidity, which will increase the amount of snow in Antarctica. This in turn, will offset some of the water being added by melting glaciers and some melting of the Greenland ice cap.

I have this project at school and I need to know about 3 different things on the outside of my house (shutters) that can protect me from a hurricane I DESPERETLY NEED HELP!

I’ve been watching Tropical Storm Hannah all night, and it has hit land from what i see, I’m not exactly sure when its going to move up to virginia, but right now i’m freaking out! I’ve never had to go through any tropical storm, tropical depression, hurricane, tornado, or anything else of that sort, so to hear that the tropical storm is going to be hitting virginia is freaking me out!! I really want to go to bed right now, but i’m afraid if i do, i’ll wind up sleeping through it and well….I wont wake up, I’m on the 2nd floor which definitely doesn’t help, but I can’t go downstairs to sleep either, we have no inside rooms in our house, and our bathtub is on an outside wall, so I don’t really see how that could help in the event of a tornado happening, anyway, as you can see I have a HUGE fear of storms, and so idk if I should really be worried at this point, or if its just my phobia….any thoughts on this? or on how i can get over this fear…?

forces jettisoned to Myanmar?
They already have

I was looking through the Hurricane tracking paper they usually hand out to you when you go to Wendy’s (if you live in that area of course) and 2009 they named one of the Hurricane’s Victor so needless to say I think it’s kind of neat that I can say they gave a Hurricane the same name as me even though with V you are kind of limited to your choices anyways lol. So what would you name your Hurricane?
Yeah Vivi Jones would definitely be one of those category 5’s for sure.
Wow the Hurricane Obama comment really gave me a good laugh and I hate to say this but I agree with you 100% on that.
Wow socks I’m sorry to hear that, but you do have a point.

I am going to talk to a travel agent too about this next week. My fiance and I are in out mid 20’s and are looking for somewhere that is fun but relaxing too. I dont want to go anywhere real shady. I realize there is crime everywhere. Any suggestions would help. Need sugguests on travel time too. Since July-Nov is hurricane season when is the best time to go. Please let me know thanks!!!

footage from Kingston Jamaica of tropical storm Gustav 6 PM

I’m a senior in high school. Next year, I plan on majoring in meteorology. I also want to be a hurricane hunter, we fly in the hurricane to collect data. I was told that I would need to earn a flight minor to do this. What’s the difference between a flight minor and a pilot’s license? How much more work or studying would I need to do to get my license after I have a flight minor? What will I be learning to get my flight minor? Pilot’s license? Sources?

August 17-Miami Herald
The first hurricane of the 2007 season, Dean was nearly 1,500 miles from South Florida and forecasters expected it to move well south of the region this weekend.

But they also began worrying that a powerful version of the storm could find its way to the Gulf of Mexico next week and pose a threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast.

”The forecast is becoming more problematic,” said hurricane forecaster Jack Beven of the National Hurricane Center in West Miami-Dade County.

He noted that some of the best computerized forecast models suggested that Dean could curve into the central Gulf of Mexico.

If it did, a portion of the coast from Texas through Florida could be endangered.

My predictions are starting to come true.. FLORIDA

I am relocating to the central florida area very soon, i was just wondering what hurricanes are like, what to expect, how to prepare, and what to do, and any other information, best answer gets 10 points, and also, how long is the power out for? is it worth buying a generator?

This is a rather large window surrounded by bricks and stone, so I would prefer not to drill anything if I don’t have to. I am considering duct taping it all.

I live in West Houston, and I’m stocked up on supplies. Should I "hunker" down, or get out of town before Friday?

oops i accidnelty clicked the wrong section by bad.
bytheway my real name is stephanie nicole.

I need shelter in case weather is bad but want to be able to walk out to a patio or the like. This can in neighboring citys also.
I plan to have it next summer 2008. It may be in cities or towns nearby. It could also be all outdoor with a shelter.

This was taken hours prior to Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Texas coast.

This compilation featuring the Wichita/Andover Tornado of April 26, 1991 features many rarely seen videos of the storm. This segment originally aired on KWCH-TV in Wichita on May 4, 1991.

????????

A lot of my local gas stations are out of gas due to the hurricane and panic of people. When do gas stations refill their supply?
