My 3rd Minitage!! Hope u enjoy!!

This is a video montage of the landfall of Tropical Storm Hanna near Wilmington, NC on September 6, 2008.

Temperatures were almost flat between 2000 - 2010
The gloom and doom predictions are just not coming true
Hurricanes are not becoming worse and more powerful as predicted
There are no more floods or droughts than we had before

However 300+ year old old cold weather records are being broken all over ASIA, Europe, and America

2010 was not as hot as 1998 in all the data sets, next year will be colder will we have to wait another 12 years before we have another warm year?

When will the time come to cut green budget and save some tax?
EDIT Raj:

In the UK it was the coldest December ever, since records began in 1910, with a mean temperature of -1°C. It smashed the previous record of 0.1°C in December 1981.

December 2010 has the lowest CET, -0.7 °C,[40] since a CET of -1.1 °C was recorded for February 1986. December 2010 can also be confirmed to be the coldest December for 120 years, since a monthly CET of -0.8 °C was recorded for December 1890 and the second coldest December since records began in 1659.

Probably the most notable record of the winter so far is the new all time record low for Northern Ireland, of -18.7 °C recorded on the 23rd of December at Castlederg, County Tyrone. In addition, all of these sites recorded their all time record lows since recording began, this winter

As many of you already know, the weather here in NYC is getting dangerously cold, the past few days.
I know there are homeless shelters, but there are many who don’t go there. I know about 3 homeless guys in my neighborhood alone, who are ALWAYS outside (even in the 18 degrees Fahrenheit weather). I know another homeless guy near my job, but i think he’s mentally ill, I still don’t understand how he can manage the FREEZING weather while pushing his shopping cart back and forth!??

I remember about 2 years ago, a homeless guy got drunk and died in the cold. Why would today’s homeless take that risk?

Which hurricane do u think was the worst

I live in a location without municipal water supply. I could buy a natural gas generator, and hire an electrician to connect it to my breaker box, but I believe there is a way to connect solar panels to a battery system to provide enough power for my 220 volts submerged pump. I have 2 horses, 24 chickens, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 parakeets, and 3 people that need water in the event of a hurricane, national power grid attack, etc. There are solar powered generators advertised, but they are not powerful enough for 220. Also, my whole neighborhood of over 200 homes all lives off their own water wells, and we all suffered during hurricane Ike: 10 days without a water supply.

But now I am in a country where it snows very much. I really like to watch snowing. But one thing puzzles me does it thunder when it snows? I have seen couple of snow storms but I hardly see a lightning or hear a thunder even when it snows very badly.

Following the tornado that struck Pampa, Texas on June 8, 1995, a second and larger tornado develops just outside town and tracks northeast toward Hoover. Veteran storm chaser and cinematographer Martin Lisius captures this F5 monster as it narrowly misses the Jordan Unit Prison. Note the prison watch towers where guards look on in terror. This tornado was so powerful, it stripped asphalt from local highways. Footage is copyrighted and available for license from StormStock (www.stormstock.com).

The 1984 Barneveld, Wisconsin tornado outbreak is a significant severe weather and tornado event that took place across the central United States from North Dakota to Kansas on June 7-8, 1984. The tornado outbreak produced several significant tornadoes including an F5 tornado which traveled through Barneveld, Wisconsin in the early hours of June 8, 1984. The entire outbreak killed at least 13 people across three states including 9 in Barneveld alone. As the tornado activity calmed down across Iowa and Minnesota in which numerous strong to severe tornadoes struck those areas from mid-afternoon to mid-evening, the severe weather shifted east towards Wisconsin after dark where a tornado watch was issued at about 11:00 PM CDT. A supercell thunderstorm, which affected portions of southeastern Iowa with a few tornadoes at around 9:00 PM CDT before weakening and intensifying shortly after, entered the state from the Iowa/Illinois border at around midnight near Dubuque. Shortly after 12:30 AM CDT, it produced its first tornado near Belmont in Lafayette County and lifted near Mineral Point in Iowa County about 15 miles southwest of Barneveld. A few minutes later, a much stronger tornado developed northeast of Mineral Point and traveled through Barneveld and up north into Columbia County before lifting shortly after 1:30 AM after traveling 36 miles (62 kilometers). A loud rumble of thunder, which cut electricity off just a few minutes before the tornado struck Barneveld, awakened

Tropical storm Agatha has now claimed at least 150 lives after sweeping across Central America Guatemala’s the worst-hit, with emergency workers battling to reach those stranded by the torrential downpour. Callers to local radio stations described more landslides and possible deaths, but those reports could not be immediately confirmed. A three-storey building in northern Guatemala City fell into a sinkhole but there were no reports of victims. Thousands are homeless while dozens are still missing. It’s feared many may be buried by landslides. Forecasters say more heavy rains are expected.

Can my landlord evict me if I pay my rent late every month because they dont come and fix things. I have pictures and proof of everything mildew, the stove keep breaking, she never came to fix the roof for hurricane ike, rainning in kitchen causing wholes in the wooden window seal. I also have a son that’s disable. what I want to know is can i beat the eviction?

A friend of mine is looking for good cold weather/some hot weather guard dog that is family friendly. He wants a dog of medium build and that is very intelligent and protective but has a good coat for different types of weather because he lives in a pretty rural area and he likes to go camping all year round, even in snow and rain. He wants the dog to have a higher cold tolerance but also be ok in the heat because he camps anywhere from 20 degrees to low 80’s, also, even when he’s not camping he does a lot of hiking and jogging, so the dog should have at least a medium or higher amount of energy. He was really looking into an akita but for several reasons that simply won’t work. He was interested in the GSD for a while but not anymore as they are among the highest to have hip dysplasia. He’s currently looking at a rottie but he’s heard they don’t have the best cold tolerance. Also he’s not sure about how common the hip dysplasia is with them, and if they are very hardy healthy dogs in general. He would buy a coat for the dog if it was going to be below freezing, but doesn’t want to be cutting it close. Does anyone know about rotties or other guard dogs in cold weather from experience?

He’s also considering a mutt of akita or shepherd but again is very worried about the chance of hip dysplasia becoming a big issue or some other huge health problem, as he can’t really check if the parents health records if he’s getting the dog from a shelter. But don’t mixed dogs have a much higher health, and are less keen to have hip dysplasia regardless?

also, he doesn’t want a dog that is extremely rare (he wants to have plenty of information availiable on the breed and possible to find a vet with some experience with them) or extremely pricey (500-above).

Do you think he’s asking for too much, or does any breed come to mind? Would any of the above mentioned dogs work?

Thanks!
PPT?

Define not cheap please, would he be looking between 300&500 for a well trained rottie or shepherd? or likely 500+?

if it makes any difference, the dog would be inside for the rest of the time, not in a backyard kennel.

american consumers have no idea the cost financially or mentally that farmers endure every year with the weather and rising cost of fuel ,fertilizer labor, chemicals and seed. nobody forces us to do it year after year with chance of losing hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight in a freeze, hailstorm or hurricane katrina that hit us in 2005 ,but we must be able to make a profit to stay in business and grain prices are where they need to be for that to happen. we can continue to provide a safe abundant supply of food for america, but we can’t grow food below the cost of production without government support if prices fall back to lows we’ve been seeing for 20 years. if american farmers can’t stay in business then our food will have to be imported in from other countries and if your one of those people who likes imported oil, then your really going to love imported food.

Here is some footage of waves crashing ashore at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. These waves were generated by long period swells from Hurricane Earl, a Category Four Hurricane well to the south at the time.

i am going to North Port Florida in mid august. I was wondering, there is a disturbance on this hurricane tracker on the east side of florida right now. well, like north east. if it were to turn into a cyclone and came and possibly hit the east side, would i be safe on the west side? plz answer, i am so stressed out

When does hurricane season start? I am going to Florida with my family in 2010 and I would like to find out when hurricane season starts so im not caught up in it! Thanks in advance for answerind my Question!!

Louisiana used to have these drive up Daiquiri stands where you could pull your car into a McDonalds type drive through window and order a Daiquiri, Hurricane, Beer….etc and then just drive away as you sip your drink. I can attest to the fact that they existed as recently as 2006 but I have not visited Louisiana since then.

I have never been to a pro football game. I lead a sheltered life. I am very curious how people can stand to sit in cold weather for three hours when the temperatures are in the teens like it will be tomorrow at the AFC and NFC championship games. Please tell don’t me booze keeps you warm. You guys out there must be freezing cold.

Volcanoes, Earthquakes & any kind of flood, if you’re caught up in natural disasters like these you could be in trouble!

But what of the Tropical Cyclonic storm?

I believe there’s a way we CAN BEAT NATURE!

How?

With architecture - with what I’ve euphemistically called TELESCOPIC BUILDINGS!
See this clip:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E06cNv55jTs - Have you finished laughing yet?
The main building in this clip - called Marineville http://stingray.sfdaydreams.com/
(scroll to bottom) along with other models in the classic kids hit TV show are able to move up and down beneath the ground.

With properly watertight hatches couldn’t this be the answer to hurricanes and typhoons?

Isn’t the real challenge though, to ’scale’ the whole thing up & create designs we can economically mass produce? After all, we’ve been using lifts IN buildings for a very long time now - can’t we take it a step further & somehow actually make buildings INTO LIFTS to save lives during storms?
One interesting answer so far:-

1. The mass of the buildings could be solved with scale. I.E. R+D should be started with say, a small ground floor apartment.

2. As to the speed of the lifts - surely that would be dependent on gearing and similar type factors - and does it have to be fast? Normally there’s some sort of warning of a storm, which gives ‘preparation’ time that people already use now, when they nail down boards over their windows etc., thus enabling building descent time.
3. The weight issue, it seemed to me that alot of the elevating platforms featured in the various Gerry Anderson puppet shows did have a basis in fact, just needing the right kind of R+D associated with problems of scale.

3. As to anchoring a buiding securely - I have seen programmes on the TV where whole buildings have been relocated - the R+D starts there!

4. As to the water table issue - if the ‘basement’ walls and floor were made of concrete, surely this would give the necessary integrity!

Ok well; I auditioned for Proscout in Spetember/October (one of the two). And I made it. And Doug (one of the people that I interviewed with) said I would do really well there. And also there was this other guy there can’t remember his name but he was taken digital photos of people (I was one of those people) and when I handed him my resume he said it was almost as long as his. And please don’t say it’s a scam I know a lot of you guys say it is but to me it isn’t. Where and when do you get to audition for 30 top agencies, managers, producers all at once?.. I mean seriously. It would take you years to be able to do that. I wsan’t able to go this december because something came up and I couldn’t go anymore. But now both parent’s say I could go. Do you think I would do well there? Below I’m gunna put whats on my resume right now:

Because the guy Doug invited me back again himself a few weeks later since I couldn’t do Proscout in December (he actually talked to my mom). So do you think I would get any callbacks at all from the agencies?… Also what was it like. I am also 17 years old. (and a girl) And please don’t say it’s a scam. Thank you
