Video courtesy: holytornado.com The ferocious power of one of the devastating tornadoes that struck the US state of Oklahoma on Tuesday was captured on camera by so-called “storm chasers”, who followed the twister as it left a trail of devastation in its wake. The tornado is seen churning through the Chickasha area, 25 miles (40 kilometres) southwest of Oklahoma City. Officials said a 26-year-old woman died when the twister hit a mobile home park where residents had been asked to leave. A dozen people were injured and hundreds were displaced in the area, they added. That twister was just one of the many tornadoes that struck Oklahoma and also the states of Arkansas and Kansas on Tuesday, killing at least 15 people. Those powerful storms came two days after the nation’s deadliest single tornado since 1950 killed at least 125 people on Sunday in Joplin in southwest Missouri.

Citgo will be allowed to pull 250,000 barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve because of its inability to secure crude in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.

Venezuela’s government-controlled Citgo Petroleum Corp. said Tuesday that supplies to its refinery in Lake Charles, La., were cut off when the Calcasieu Ship Channel closed.

The U.S. Energy Department granted the request late Tuesday, so far the only request for fuel from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The reserve is an emergency depot maintained by the Energy Department and can hold as much as 727 million barrels of oil in salt caverns along the Coast of Mexico.

i want to plan a trip to miami beach in the begining of august but when is hurricane season? I dont wanna go at a bad time

How can I get prepared? Living in Louisiana during hurricane season is really scary. My family want to move just for the months of hurricane season but school is during the season and I don’t wanna mess up my schooling !
How can I prepare for this , ONCE AGAIN?

Ok, Here in DC they told us that we were going to have a hurricane. It did not happen. Anyway, after stocking up on food and supplies in preparation for no electricity, I was going to replace the little candles that I had inside candle glass containers. But everytime I tried to get the candles out, I broke the damn container or just only could get part of the candle out.

How can one get those half used, candles out of the glass holders to replace them with new ones? Any tips? I know this is probably a stupid question, so please no answers that deflate my self esteem. :(

My one story apartment, i’m pretty sure would be history if a tornado were ever to hit it, considering it was once picked up and moved from a different location. So, I don’t plan on it sheltering me from a tornado, I would be a sitting duck in here. How would you suggest I protect myself? How could I know one is coming, what would the weather be like, is there always a tornado warning? Is it always very windy before a tornado, should I make way in my car? etc. Thanks.

I have a facebook re: photos found in the debris of the Joplin Tornado. I have "liked" a lot of related pages, but when I have a update or info I need to post on other groups, I have to manually go to each page and post the link/info. Is there a way to post to pages I have liked or do I have to go to each one and copy/paste the link?

This takes SO much time, but has to be done!
Thanks!

My husband and I broke our lease exactly a year ago. We got someone to move into our apartment a week after we left so they cannot get us for any unpaid rent left on the lease I know that much. But they tried to get money from us at first…then nothing for a year and we got another letter today. Saying they still want 1800$ and blah blah

We were in that apartment for over 3 years of course carpet will need to be replaced. Everything should be covered by the deposit they got from us at the beginning. So what could really add up to 1800$

There was mold near windows because of hurricane damage they just painted over.

That is about it.

Are they just going to keep with the letters and slightly ruin our credit or are they really really going to take us to court? How long will this last? We have already been in another apartment for a year and pay rent on time can we use a letter from our current landlord for reference if we move later on in life and need another apartment?

Thanks
we just send a letter back to the collection agency asking for an itemized bill ?
TEXAS is the state I am in

Here in Ohio we’ve had tornado warnings pretty much all evening.
Earlier a tornado touched down in the county next to mine. On the news they kept telling people to find shelter, and to be cautious.

Then i was thinking… i am totally unprepared for a natural disaster. I don’t have any type of supplies, or emergency situation knowledge… then i started thinking about my pets. What would happen to them if something serious happened. Like during hurricane Katrina, many pets died, and were separated from their owners.

So i was wondering, do any of you have a plan for a natural disaster? What would happen to your pets?
Like in a tornado, would you have shelter space that your family and your pets could fit in?
Or in your natural disaster supplies do you have supplies for your pets as well?

do you have any place to take them if something happened?

If you had to evacuate your homes would you refuse to leave with out them? (some people did this during hurricane katrina) Or would you leave them and hope for the best?

Just curious… because its something i never really thought about.
"Oh and by the way, where in ohio are the tornado warnings because i’m also located in ohio, near the cincinnati area…"
Well the tornado touched down in Fairfield, i live in Pickaway county, and we had warnings.
I’m not sure what all countys had warnings.
@Fuzzy Liberal -My grandma lives in a mobile home to, and when ever we get tornado warngings she hides in her hallway with her cats.

I live in a twin syle town home, and i have no type of shelter. So i’d have to go in the bathtub or my downstairs closet…but i highly doubt that they’d be able to hold myself and my pets.
So i’ve been pretty worried about a natural disaster.

Part B - 08/29/2005 B-Roll aftermath footage shot around the New Orleans, LA International Airport that shows the huge difference in the damage depending on the location around the metro area. On the south side of the airport along Airline Highway, there is no flooding, only damage from the high winds. While the south side of the airport was high and dry, the north side of the airport at Williams Blvd. and Veterans Blvd. was flooded with several feet of water and the water was still rising. Footage includes cars floating in the high water and people walking in the high water while large police truck drive through the flooded roadways.

So i have snow day today and I went outside to shovel the snow. It was windy and a while later my face started to hurt I’ve already experienced this many times before, but now it seems to be getting worse. Anyway my face started hurting and swelling up (like an allergic reaction) it started out as what looked like hives and latter a big ass red circle on my cheek. It wasn’t itchy or anything just hurt a bit. I pinched it and it was like when u pinch a baby’s cheek, soft but firm (if that makes any sense) but i doesn’t happen anywhere else on my body. For the past 3yrs my face has done this i go outside i come back to a warm shelter and my face starts to get red etc. etc. last summer i went to Pakistan (its hot over there) and maybe my skins not used to it? But I just wanted to know what this is, if anyone has ever had this, and other info u can give. Thanks P.S. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my whole life

An apparent tornado struck the downtown of one of Massachusetts’ largest cities Wednesday afternoon, scattering debris, toppling trees, and frightening workers and residents. No injuries were immediately reported. (June 1)

***Questions at bottom of Additional Information***

I was watching the news about the HORRORS happening across the world from me and I keep hearing people say REALLY stupid things like “It’s no surprise that the US Supplies are being stolen… Just look at what Bush did after Hurricane Katrina.” And it made me think about the bias in the news coverage when it came to Katrina.

I’m MIDDLE GROUND in everything so I don’t have the wool over my eyes when it comes from EITHER side of the nut-job spectrum so when I watched the difference in reporting, I was SHOCKED at how both sides were manipulating the disaster to further their own aims.

The BIGGEST thing I noticed was how CNN and the Leftie nut-job side referred to EVERYONE as a “Victim” while Fox News and the Rightie nut-job side and the non-biased referred to them as “Survivors” and it REALLY hit home.
If you label someone as a “Victim” then they take on a pathetic, beaten down, “I can’t help myself” air while a “Survivor” is someone that has SURVIVED THE WORST & is ready to help their fellow survivors & rebuild!

A “Victim” is weak & needs others to support them…
A “Survivor” is STRONG & willing to accept help but is working just as hard as the helpers!

I remember watching the interviews on the various news stations & it was shocking how they picked through the people to find the specific “Type” of person to interview to specifically further their own political aims.

I remember an interview with an Asian family & when the reporter kept calling them “Victims” they actually stopped her & said “We are not victims. We survived & we will rebuild.” & 6 months later I saw a 60 min’s story on how they flipped off the world & didn’t retreat.
The whole community stayed & pooled their money & resources & strengths & they had almost finished rebuilding the houses & repairing the streets while a few miles away, the houses were still mold covered & the people THERE were doing nothing but b*tching about George Bush & how they had yet to get their FIMA Debit Cards.

Everyone I asked about these details went STRAIGHT DOWN PARTY LINES! The Republicans said “They are Survivors” & the Democrats said “They are just victims, unable to help themselves.” While us Middle-Grounds could stand back & see the distinctions & the shades of grey.

***QUESTIONS***
Does anyone else understand the manipulation tactics of their own political party?

Why is it that only about 1% of the population of the US is even ABLE to see the blatant propaganda & manipulation tactics?

What is your opinion on this?
p.s. I see this type of manipulation EACH AND EVERY TIME I turn on the news, but with H.K. it was so obvious that it is the easiest thing to use as an example.

"Normal" news days can be ignored or it is so small that you need to research what REALLY happened to realize the way you have been manipulated, but with H.K. it was so obvious that I could almost see the "Thought Bubbles" over the heads of the reporters saying "Believe US and not THEM!"

presiddent obama met with President Ali Bongo of Gabon today in the oval office, it shows ya how good a guy obama is. details on there meeting http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2001593/Barack-Obama-invites-Gabon-dictator-Ali-Bongo-White-House.html

I dream of living in New Orleans (and I will). I want my brother to live with me, but he says he doesn’t want to die in a hurricane. He thinks that every hurricane is like Katrina. I know that is not the truth, or the atlantic coast would be destroyed. I tell him that they’re not all like that, that they’re just like a thunderstorm that last for a few days. I’ve expierenced many tornadoes and severe storms, so I’m just guessing that’s what they’re like. If every single hurricane destroyed roofs, blew out windows and caused floods what would be the whole point of living there? So, people who have expierenced hurricane (not read about them), what is it like? Every single one that spawns each year can’t cause such terrible damage, or can it?

A good model to represent the the water cycle would be:

I have a feeling that this will be a very bad Hurricane Season. What do you think?

Gas price ceiling at .15 predicted

Gasoline prices are likely to peak at .15 a gallon this summer, the government says - an encouraging prediction for motorists who fear the cost of a fill-up will just keep climbing.

But prices at the pump are likely to stay above a gallon most of next year, according to projections Wednesday by the Energy Department’s statistical agency - and the government tends to err on the optimistic side.

Guy F. Caruso, head of the federal Energy Information Administration (EIA), delivered the sober news at a congressional hearing on energy prices and the future of oil.

Even as he spoke, oil prices jumped again, edging for a time above 8 a barrel and adding more upward pressure on gasoline prices.

A drop in gasoline inventories, concerns about hurricanes that could disrupt Gulf of Mexico supplies and, most importantly, the high oil prices all have contributed to a suspicion that the upward spiral of gasoline costs will continue at least for a few months, said Mr. Caruso as well as private energy experts.

Motorists are paying .05 a gallon on average nationwide, and considerably more in some parts of the country, according to a survey of gas stations by AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. That’s an increase of nearly a gallon since January.

And little relief is in sight.

Prices are likely to remain close to or above for the rest of the year and average .92 a gallon through 2009, the Energy Department agency forecast.

Crude oil prices are expected to average 6 a barrel in 2009, or a barrel higher than this year, as oil supplies and demand will remain tight, Mr. Caruso told the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

"The consensus view," said Rep. Edward J. Markey, Massachusetts Democrat, the committee’s chairman, "is that oil above 0 a barrel is going to be with us for some time."

The Energy Department’s statistical agency projects oil prices declining to a barrel in 2010 but then increasing to 7 by 2015. Mr. Markey said he doubted those numbers and noted that EIA projections in the past have been overly optimistic when it comes to energy prices.

Predicting future oil and gasoline prices is highly uncertain with the volatile global oil markets, Mr. Caruso acknowledged.

His agency bases its gasoline projections on assumptions of future oil prices, expectations of demand and economic trends. It has revised its figures upward several times since last fall - not having anticipated the huge surge in global oil costs.

"They usually dramatically underestimate the cost," said Eli Hopson of the Union of Concerned Scientists, which has examined annual EIA price projections going back to 2003. Each year, the average price predictions were understated by 36 to 80 cents a gallon, said Mr. Hopson.

A panel of energy experts, meanwhile, told the House hearing that people shouldn’t expect any quick fixes to the country’s energy problems.

They said one answer is more conservation and a shift to alternative fuels - transitions that would take time. Mr. Caruso told the lawmakers that new auto fuel-economy requirements and the increased use of ethanol and other alternative fuels are expected to produce "a substantial reduction" in oil use and oil imports over the next two decades.

Ok, I’m looking for a house soon (my first place), I want to know what kind of house will hold up during a sever thunderstorm (including tornadoes). I live in Alabama and we just had a tornado outbreak a few weeks ago. What material should I look for, I HATE vinyl siding. And also should if be slab or crawl space? And one level or two. I feel safer in a two level townhouse. I don’t care about pricing and I am planing on getting a storm shelter built in or outside my house, but I still want my home to be safe so I won’t have to run to shelter every time I hear noise from the sky.

Btw I hate crawl space unless it’s a must have. My aunt has crawl space and she’s had enough rodents, animals and reptiles come in her house to make a zoo. I’m talking about lizards, squirrels, rabbits, even stray cats. And that frightens me lol.

I’m living in the uk. It is very windy outside. Has there ever been a hurricane recorder here? If so, will there be one tonight? I have to get supplies!

Hi, I’ve done photography for 5 years, and have my own equipment and lighting to shoot high key, and regular studio photography.
However, I am a nursing student, and I’ve just gotten out of classes for the semester. I do not have a studio of my own, but I shoot free lance for a set charge occasionally.

My family lives in Joplin, I grew up there. Though I don’t know any of the dead, I do know that my aunts church as destroyed, and so were the homes of several acquaintances.

I read an article about a lady who volunteered her photography services and had ALL proceeds go to Tuscaloosa Alabama tornado victims (ironically, she was from Joplin). I would like to do the same for the people of Joplin. I probably know more people in Joplin than I do here in Fort Worth though. I know some of the people in my church choir, but that’s about it. I’m not a bad photographer, and I have the equipment. I just don’t want to sound needy for attention. All I would need is 1 room on a Sunday afternoon and a small blurb in the bulletin about a charity photoshoot that would benefit a Charity that is helping Joplin currently (like convoy of hope).
I’ve been going for almost a year, but it is a big church. I know the music minister, but not the pastor. Who should I talk to if anyone? Or should I just forget about it? I think that it’s a decent idea, and I know how I can pull it off. I don’t mind donating a day or more of my time in photoshoots as long as some money goes to the charities that are helping those affected by this years storms that are in need. What do you think? Should I go for it, or just forget about it?! Thanks!
FTR, since I outright OWN all of the equipment needed, I plan on digitally delivering all photos at no extra charge. No printing necessary. I will send a copyright release, and their print at full resolution. All I ask is that they make a donation to Convoy of Hope or another organization that is working hard at helping Joplin.
