I live in Missouri and have noticed many strong wind storms come and go. but after all these storms i notice many twigs on the ground. Then i came to the question of what would happen if these strong storms didn’t come as often and here is the conclusions i came up with and what role do they play in nature.

1. Many rotten branches would stay up in the trees
2. Branches large (and weak) would eventually fall in calm weather posing a threat to animals and humans.
3. Animals and Humans usually take shelter in storms lowering their chances of such debris falling upon them.
4. The process of recycling old branches would be reduced taking away from the constant replenishment of the ground.
5. Tornadoes clear large fields for new trees to grow back into and provide an opening for diverse wild life.
6. After branches have fallen it clears the lower forest to let in light allowing younger more healthy trees to grow.
7. Trees that remain standing usually are cleansed of their extra weak branches allowing for a healthier growing environment.

* I have not taking any stats on how many branches or twigs fall in a certain area of forest or examend them drastically.

So my question is do you think this is a plausible theory and if so where could i present this theory to a scientific community and get credit for it (if anyone hasn’t already presented this) ?
Also i don’t know what to call this theory other than the "Importance of consistently bad wind storms".

Please give your opinion.

Thanks

On May 22, 2011 a highly destructive and deadly tornado tore through the town of Joplin, MO. Here is video of the tornado entering the southwest side of town, filmed by TornadoVideos.net Basehunters team Colt Forney, Isaac Pato, Kevin Rolfs, and Scott Peake. The team spent hours assisting with search and rescue and transporting victims to local hospitals in personal vehicles.

Today is just not my day. My mom left the computer open because she was downloading facebook photos (of course -.-) I needed to use the computer to check some Sims 3 updates on A WHOLE DIFFEREN’T APP. It wasn’t Safari. Then my mom came in and was like OMG I WAS DOWNLOADING FACEBOOK PHOTOS WHAT DID YOU DO TO THEM WHERE ARE THEY?!?!?! She was acting like a tornado torn down the house. Anyways i said WITHOUT yelling "mooom stop freaking out its fine" and then she slapped my shoulder really hard as if bricks fell on it, then she started yelling crap ._. Before you say, you should’ve asked ur mom to use the computer, you should’ve left the computer alone, etc I never play around with her stuff or close/log out! And if i need to use Safari i open another tab or window. If you think thats bad my mom X’s the stuff i was doing and then she goes on without asking! For example if im watching videos and i go to the kitchen to make popcorn she would X out and go on facebook -_- this also happens with my brother whenever he fixes a snack he always comes back to find my mom going on facebook. Idk where my mom get this from maybe she’s watching more MTV than me idk. P.s after my mom hit me in the shoulder i went upstairs and cried (im on my period sorry for tmi) and my stomach has been bothering meee

Rising in the Senate on May 13, Chuck Schumer, the New York Democrat, explained: "I rise to discuss rising energy prices." The president was heading to Saudi Arabia to seek an increase in its oil production, and Schumer’s gorge was rising.

Saudi Arabia, he said, "holds the key to reducing gasoline prices at home in the short term." Therefore arms sales to that kingdom should be blocked unless it "increases its oil production by one million barrels per day," which would cause the price of gasoline to fall "50 cents a gallon almost immediately."

Can a senator, with so many things on his mind, know so precisely how the price of gasoline would respond to that increase in the oil supply? Schumer does know that if you increase the supply of something, the price of it probably will fall. That is why he and 96 other senators recently voted to increase the supply of oil on the market by stopping the flow of oil into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which protects against major physical One million barrels is what might today be flowing from ANWR if in 1995 President Bill Clinton had not vetoed legislation to permit drilling there. One million barrels produce 27 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel. Seventy-two of today’s senators — including Schumer, of course, and 38 other Democrats, including Barack Obama, and 33 Republicans, including John McCain — have voted to keep ANWR’s estimated 10.4 billion barrels of oil off the market.

So Schumer, according to Schumer, is complicit in taking away from every American who buys 20 gallons of gasoline. "Democracy," said H.L. Mencken, "is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." The common people of New York want Schumer to be their senator, so they should pipe down about gasoline prices, which are a predictable consequence of their political choice.

Also disqualified from complaining are all voters who sent to Washington senators and representatives who have voted to keep ANWR’s oil in the ground and who voted to put 85 percent of America’s offshore territory off-limits to drilling. The U.S. Minerals Management Service says that restricted area contains perhaps 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas — 10 times as much oil and 20 times as much natural gas as Americans use in a year.

Drilling is underway 60 miles off Florida. The drilling is being done by China, in cooperation with Cuba, which is drilling closer to South Florida than U.S. companies are.

ANWR is larger than the combined areas of five states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware), and drilling along its coastal plain would be confined to a space one-sixth the size of Washington’s Dulles airport. Offshore? Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed or damaged hundreds of drilling rigs without causing a large spill. There has not been a significant spill from an offshore U.S. well since 1969. Of the more than 7 billion barrels of oil pumped offshore in the past 25 years, 0.001 percent — that is one-thousandth of 1 percent — has been spilled. Louisiana has more than 3,200 rigs offshore — and a thriving commercial fishing industry.

In his book "Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of ‘Energy Independence,’ " Robert Bryce says Brazil’s energy success has little to do with its much-discussed ethanol production and much to do with its increased oil production, the vast majority of which comes from off Brazil’s shore. Investor’s Business Daily reports that Brazil, "which recently made a major oil discovery almost in sight of Rio’s beaches," has leased most of the world’s deep-sea drilling rigs.

In September 2006, two U.S. companies announced that their Jack No. 2 well, in the Gulf 270 miles southwest of New Orleans, had tapped a field with perhaps 15 billion barrels of oil, which would increase America’s proven reserves by 50 percent. Just probing four miles below the Gulf’s floor costs 0 million. Congress’s response to such expenditures is to propose increasing the oil companies’ tax burdens.

America says to foreign producers: We prefer not to pump our oil, so please pump more of yours, thereby lowering its value, for our benefit. Let it not be said that America has no energy policy.

I live in South Florida, after the hurricanes of the last couple of years and other factors, I have become extremely claustrophobic. I cannot even be in an elevator anymore for more than 2 floors. The thought of being behind plywood boards for days on end, totally freaks me out; so I am looking for alternatives that are 1) inexpensive, 2) protective against flying objects and 3) allow light into the house. I have come up with the idea of vinyl lattice board, they meet all 3 of my requirements. I have looked into lexan panels and they are k for my home. (the dealers will do an all or nothing install).

Anyone else have any other low cost ideas? or suggestions?
in response to my 2 answers so far:
1st - My windows are rollouts, so a permanent covering is out, or I wouldn’t be able to open them at all; and 2ndly, I can’t move, I just moved in there a month ago. I am a Florida native, I love a good storm, it isn’t the storm I have problems with, its the dark enclosed space. And hurricanes don’t always come at night.

If vinyl lattice is impact resistant to 150 psi, why wouldn’t they work? Please validate your response.

08/29/2005 Raw B-Roll footage shot during Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans, LA French Quarter. POV footage while driving in the French Quarter as the hurricane rips apart the area. Additional tripoded video at the intersection of Dauphine Street and Conti Street. POV footage continues around the French Quarter until the intersection of Conti Street and Royal Street where whiteout condition from the high winds were slamming into the area and blowing debris through the air.

I just adopted the cutest little dachshund from my local shelter, and it gets very cold where I live during the winter. What protection do these dogs need in cold weather?

can u help me pls
my H.W. is to write this news story in a childish version and i have no clues how to do this, so can u pls write it for me or give me some clues how to write that.

"The horrors of Haiti’s earthquake continue to unfold. The quake itself
killed perhaps 100,000 people. The inability to organise rapid relief is killing tens
of thousands more. More than 1mn people are exposed to hunger and disease
and, with the rain and hurricane seasons approaching, are vulnerable to
further hazards.
Even an economy as impoverished as Haiti’s is a complex system dependent
on trade between rural and urban areas, transport, electricity, port services,
and government functions. Haiti’s economy worked badly in the past, and was
still reeling from four hurricanes in 2008 when the earthquake struck.
The fact that the quake hit the capital and demolished every centre of
social activity, destroyed the systems upon which daily urban life depends. Millions
of people are now without livelihoods and the means for survival.
The first stage in an effective response, the first three or four weeks, must focus on rescuing survivors and stabilising supplies of food, water, medical services, and shelter for the population. Neither Haiti nor the world was properly equipped for this, and tens of thousands will die needlessly. The world’s emergency-response systems – especially for impoverished countries in zones that are vulnerable to earthquakes, volcanoes, droughts, hurricanes, and floods – needs upgrading.
After just a month or so, the emergency phase will give way to a decades-long struggle for recovery and long-term development. Haiti must avoid a prolonged period of tent cities in which people are mere refugees. But where should displaced people – numbering hundreds of thousands, and perhaps more than a million – live? How should they be provided with food, water, health care, and shelter? And how can they begin to contribute to the revival of basic economic life?
The economy will have a simple structure in the coming years, with most economic activities focused in five sectors: smallholder, or peasant, agriculture; reconstruction; port services and light manufacturing; local small-scale trade; and public services, including healthcare and education. The key challenge is to support these five sectors in order to combine short-term relief with long-term reconstruction and development.
First, special efforts should be made to boost peasant agriculture and rural communities. This will enable hundreds of thousands of displaced people to return to their village communities and live from farming. With fertiliser, improved seeds, small-scale irrigation, rapid training and extension services, and low-cost storage silos, Haiti’s food production could double or triple in the next few years, sustaining the country and building a new rural economy.
Reconstruction – of roads, buildings, and water and sanitation systems – will employ tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of Haitian construction workers, and boost the regeneration of towns. The World Food Programme can help peasant farmers to produce more food in the countryside and then purchase the food to use in food-for-work programs oriented to construction projects.
Haiti’s infrastructure was meager before the earthquake (hence the shocking mortality rate), and most of that is now rubble. Large-scale capital investment will also be needed to re-equip the ports and to re-establish a power grid.
Recovery will also require re-establishing at least a small-scale manufacturing sector. Haiti, like its next-door neighbour, the Dominican Republic, once created jobs in port facilities, including production of clothing, baseballs, and other light-manufacturing items. Those jobs disappeared in the 1990’s, when the US imposed a trade embargo on Haiti as part of an effort to re-establish democracy. Democracy returned, but the economy was destroyed.
Other countries have risen from the rubble of natural disaster and war, and Haitican do the same over the next five to 10 years. For the next decade, however, and especially for the next five years, there will be no escape from the need to rely on international financing, and mainly grant assistance, to finance the rebuilding effort. The world has spent heavily in Haiti before, but very ineffectively. This time, it must be done right.
A clear strategy is needed to bolster the key sectors discussed above. Each sector requires a five-year recovery strategy with a clear budget and clear lines of partnership and responsibility linking the Haitian government, non-governmental organisations, and institutional donors, especially governments and international agencies.
The second key to successful reconstruction is to harmonise the international response. There are probably 40 or more official organisations from abroad, if not more, already engaged in the recovery effort. In addition, there are hundreds, if not tho

What does the american government do about the destroyed houses due to the tornadoes. Do the government pay for new houses? Or are the americans supposed to pay a tax to the government for natural disasters? Sorry, I’m not american so I cannot really understand how americans get by while they have their houses destroyed. How long does it take to start living normally again?

Personal experiences are welcome =)

There are 2 buttons between front seats on the console for the little back windows. One works..but the one for other window button doesn’t even make a noise. Could it be the motor part..or a fuse? Any ideas how to get it up? (hopefully before a hurricane hits) Thanks.
88Toyota Celica…It’s 2door (no back door..can’t take door off. Where would wires be? Buttons are on the console in middle between front seats)

Your on a Cargo Plane carrying supplies to a village in Africa in relief efforts from a recent Hurricane… While passing over a wide expanse of water a storm unexpectedly rolls in and causes malfunctions.. Your plane crashes into the ocean..

You wake up on a beach, three others have survived and 5 things have washed up from the wreckage… Out of rationality you realize no one is coming to look for you and you soon find out the island is completely deserted…

Who are the three survivors and what are the five things that would have washed ashore?

to repair it….if a "friend of the family" who doesn’t have a contracting license does the repairs, is that a felony offense?

Im walking amongst the dead
On a dreary night, with frost bite
Every breath is a cloud of icy steam
We are marching, floating in a haze

The people, their faces are gory
Skulls, with visible deep sockets
Wrapped around my hands are burning chains
We are trapped together

Where are we going?
I do not know
The most I feel from this is the excitement one gets from fear
Otherwise I am empty

What am I doing?
I am amongst evil
I sin and I cannot redeem
I donot believe this path will take me anywhere

If a butterfly passed,
Cloaked with snowy white wings and angelic
It would be my last glimmer of hope
And I believe the last

But here, I know I don’t belong
I still have a face I believe
In these misty woods, on the path of death
But I have a heart to match theirs

They hiss and spit
The shape we make, walking upon air
Is that of a snakes’
If you watch from a distance

You could try and join us, some do
Others catch sight of our mysterious ways
It appeals to some, you see
But keeping up with us is like holding on to a tear drop
Sadness created this, this insanity

Hold my hand, please I beg you
Take me away from the devils of deceased hope
But can I beg?
Or merely choke?
Your attention was like a warm rush of flooding water
A tropical storm causing the chains to slide
A message in the form of bellowing thunder
Lighting, erratically showing images of love by our sides

Seriously, it should be common knowledge amongst the moderately well-informed populous as to why there’s an arbitrary fluctuation in gas prices — ESPECIALLY that (to me) they appear to have "magically" dropped when America needs it most.

Well — I got news for you gas co.s…we ALWAYS need it, okay?

And spare me the platitudes of a "supply & demand" lesson in any answers to this question, please (or hurricanes, or the recession — none of that’s changed enough to justify this drop).

I want to find out if there’s someone out there who ACTUALLY knows why "the powers that be" are able to knock three dollars off the price right now, and not back in the summer…or always, for that matter!
PS: This guy, "Headtater" (4 answers down) is the prototype for what I’m talking about.

Of course I’m happy gas prices are lower! I’m trying to ascertain the cause behind the drop so we can KEEP it that way…brainiac.

Some people…all opinion, no solution.

The Earth is at a period in the time in which it goes into another ice age. Every 35 billion years or so the Earth changes drastically and prepares it self for freezing winters and harsh climates. With the War in Iraq, Oil at a price that will inflate and people fight over religion, which i add has been happening since the dawn of time, we see ourselves with a choice, to live or die. I myself was worried about the idiots killing us. I thought to myself, Well if there are nukes, We need a bomb shelter. But after further studies, i have found this to happen. Now i defend the freezing the weather, and the ice capped sandy plains. Please reply, I wish to hear what you have to say about an ice path from Russia, and another Pangea.

Horrific Car crashes caught on tape. An awareness to all drivers that texting, dangerous driving, drugs, alcohol etc are prohibited when driving.

Ok, so I was near an airport today taking some photos on the landing aircraft and when an old BA 737-400 had passed over and had landed I many strange noises, where the air sounded as if it been fanned all over the place and sounded like a mini tornado. I believe it is to do with the engines and their circular movement, but perhaps with the wingtips (as can be seen by cold photos)? What is this? Thanks.

we are thinking about moving to Hollywood FL and i was wondering how often that area is hit by the hurricanes.

…what companies would you add to it?

*a buycott is the opposite of a boycott…I think it would be better to find the "good" companies and buy from them, and not buy from the "bad companies. The people (consumers) should deal with the greedy ones and reward the non-greedy ones. And the gov’t should stay out. (my opinion).

My list so far:
publix (I’ve heard they treat their employees really well).

chick-filet

oreck vacuum cleaners

colgate (he gives lots to charity)

whole foods…I like the owner, who doesn’t take a salary anymore.

freds…the manager donated toys and art supplies to the people staying in the shelter after our last major hurricane

.Can anyone think of anymore, or is there some buycott list somewhere already that I don’t know about?
And I don’t know how this question got posted in this section…that’s so weird. That’s been happening a lot, I’ve noticed…my questions getting posted in categories I didn’t put them in.

Its been along time and obviously its that time of year. Anyone think theres one coming?
I am talking about whether one will hit this year
