Can Democrats Govern?
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2008/01/the_year_ahead_can_democrats_g.html
"The American people didn’t elect Democrats in November because they suddenly took an ideological swing to the left. Voters were unhappy with what they saw as the Republican Party’s inability to get things done, whether it was dealing with Hurricane Katrina, gas prices or the Iraq War. So, they took a chance on the Democrats, and now the Democrats must produce."
So by that standard, are Democrats competent? Have they produced?

Some did in the past; but they have lost that ability
With the Presidential veto and lack of 60 votes in the senate, republicans can block anything the dems do they don’t like, when something like the tax rebates comes up they all get behind it as it spells votes for everyone.
dems have no idea what is going on. i’m not sure they are from this planet.
Right now, our government is so evenly divided it really cannot make signifigant change without upsetting the other party. Hence, nothing gets done, nothing changes.
That’s the way big business likes it.
That’s usually how it works, the opposition party gets in because the party in power is perceived to be doing a poor job. It is much rarer that a nationwide ideological swing happens, the last time you could argue that it really happened was conservative Reagan in the 1980s, and before that liberal Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s. And these ideological shifts were triggered by incompetence of the party in power, the failure of Hoover allowed Roosevelt and his liberal New Deal ideas to gain popularity, and the failure of Carter allowed Reagan’s conservative ideas to become popular.
no they haven’t produced.
FDR governed for 12 years and led the nation out of the great depression and won WW2.
JFK inspired a nation as president and told us the virtues of hard work.
Bill Clinton balanced the budget for the first time in decades and led through a time of peace.
Tell me, can they govern?
no we are not ready for such drastic change. we favor corporate greed.
Democrats aren’t as good as Republicans at starting wars of choice and doubling the National Debt.
You must know that the Democrats do not have enough of a majority to override a Bush veto. This has largely tied their hands. Another problem is that Pelosi has no balls and won’t even try to stand up to the president. In November Democrats will have a much larger plurality, but they won’t need it as much because there will be a Democrat in the White House.
Yes, especially in a time of war.
Far better than Republicans.
Nice blog link by the way, opinions do not serve well as fact.
Not well.
