I’ve been keeping track of the hurricane for the past few days now, and each day the predictions keep going more east every day, so I’m wondering what the chances are of it still hitting South Florida? The paths on NOAA are JUST predictions, and are changing quite often. I live in the Fort Lauderdale area so I’m curious. I know we’ll get some effects of it most likely even if it doesn’t hit us tho.
yes, i know it’s so debris does not hit your window and shatter it. but can wind from a hurricane blow your windows in? or cause them to break? i live in pennsylvania & hurricane irene is on it’s way up here. should be here around late afternoon saturday or during the day sunday. they’re ordering mandatory evacuation in all the shores, and they said new york is definitely in a lot of danger. they’re closing down the highways & subways saturday afternoon. if a hurricane is suppose to be this bad, should i board my own windows?

I have a standard double-hung window, with a window-unit air conditioner. Its wedged in there well enough for normal use, but I live in South Florida, and so hurricanes are a concern. My intention is to cut 5/8th or 3/4 inch plywood to fit the window, but to fit around the window unit. How else should the window unit be strapped or otherwise secured? FYI, my walls are CBS, so tapcons are an option, and its a small window, about 30X36. Points for best answer!
I’m not removing my air conditioners because a hurricane is coming. If I don’t have them back up and running about 5 minutes after the power goes out, the house’ll hit 95 degrees and never cool down. And generally the power is out for weeks.

there have been so many hurricanes, tornadoes, etc lately with all these people being left homeless, no food, unable to rebuild and deaths like in burma/china. this makes me wonder is the world coming to the end. i’m watching Cnn showing two tornados that hit in logan city, ok. will be ready not just spiritually but do you have a safe place, food, money saved in the house, tools (radio/flashlight, generator, tv that is battery operated) and medical supplies? i don’t believe that 50 percent much less 30 can say they are prepared. now, when i watch movies like the "day after" or those volcano/hurricane movies i see that this is very possible.
