Weather Archives

The sun was ripe and tired in its final stage and it shimmered gently, low and dim, as if it were stepping aside and preparing to give the other stars a chance to shine. A light wind blew. There was warmth in each breeze, and between each waft it seemed as if the air had eternally been perfectly still. The harsh freeze of the previous year and the deluge which had followed seemed now to have been a bad dream. Through the passing of the year the weather had changed and now, in August, the elements were welcomed by the people. The wind revived the weary workers, like a fan cooling an overheating engine and the rain, when it seldom arrived, was welcomed like a deceiving and deceitfully endearing friend. The showers came in saccharine bursts, and their vital sweetness was felt by all. The crops, the trees, the birds and every animal instinctively drenched themselves gleefully. The work-weary men and women dropped their hoes and spades, their washboards and their churns and they sheltered.

Would you invite him into your home?

Greetings, comrades! I own a GSD who is little over a year old, and as the summer temperatures roll in, I have been extremely worried about his safety. As you may know, GSDs shed a ton (and my fiancee has dog allergies), so he has to stay outside year-round. He has excellent shelter and always has fresh, cool water. But I live in Arkansas, and it is soaring up to the high-90’s, and it will probably reach the low-hundreds soon. Every time I walk outside it is overwhelmingly sweltering, and I just feel so bad for him being out there. I know that GSDs have a summer and winter coat, but its just hard to imagine that anything with fur could survive out there! If it IS safe for him to live outside, can he do so relatively comfortably? Assurance would be much appreciated, I am sooooo sick with worry for him : (

Greetings,
I’m having a problem with my immigrant wife. We’ve been married for about 8 years now and we have a 7 year old son. We’ve had a normal family life together until very recently when she took our son with her to a battered women shelter. The problem is this: I have never hurt her. There’s not a single police report from her against me in all the time we’ve lived together. The day she left the call the police so that she would have a precedent of something. Then she asked the police that she wanted to go to a battered women shelter.

The problem is this. She’s illegally in this country and recently found out that there’s a law that will allow her to apply for work permit if she’s able to prove that she’s a victim of domestic violence. Also, by doing claiming to be a victim of domestic violence, she’ll probably be able to get a restraining order against me and keep me from having visitation rights to my own child.

All of this started when I mentioned to her that I wanted to move to a southern state because the weather in the northern part of the USA is something I’ve never gotten used to. Some of her friends told her that she could have problems in the south because of all the recent laws passed against illegal people in this country.

My questions here are: How can I prove that I haven’t abused her? There’s no police reports from her against me. There’s no witnesses who can say that I abuse her, except probably her own relatives who could make up anything. Our friends in common from church know that she hasn’t been abused by me.

How can I see my son again? I’m afraid if she continues to pursue the domestic violence case against me the authorities are going to blindly trust her, and keep me out of the picture.

Who should I get help from? I can’t take action on my against her. That’s the way I am. Would a family court be able to help me?

The other day when she disappeared I called the local police only to have them tell me that she was ok but that she was staying at a place for battered women, they even told me that she was scared to live with me. She is really manipulative. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Okay well we are moving to a house in 2 months with 2 and a half acres. We only have one horse and he’s mine. Well, we are boarding him right now, and will keep boarding him until we get a fence on the house we are moving into. My mom (knows nothing about horses… lol) said she’s not going to pay to build a barn, so she’s just going to buy a shed. I don’t know.. is that okay?? I know people who don’t even have a shed, barn, or any shelter for their horse. Do they really need one? I know this may sound stupid, I am not a novice, but I’ve never had my horse at my house before. So, what do y’all think?

BTW, I live in Texas, so the weather can be unpredictable :P Yes my sister is planning on getting a horse a little while after we move, so he won’t be lonely(:

My one story apartment, i’m pretty sure would be history if a tornado were ever to hit it, considering it was once picked up and moved from a different location. So, I don’t plan on it sheltering me from a tornado, I would be a sitting duck in here. How would you suggest I protect myself? How could I know one is coming, what would the weather be like, is there always a tornado warning? Is it always very windy before a tornado, should I make way in my car? etc. Thanks.

So i have snow day today and I went outside to shovel the snow. It was windy and a while later my face started to hurt I’ve already experienced this many times before, but now it seems to be getting worse. Anyway my face started hurting and swelling up (like an allergic reaction) it started out as what looked like hives and latter a big ass red circle on my cheek. It wasn’t itchy or anything just hurt a bit. I pinched it and it was like when u pinch a baby’s cheek, soft but firm (if that makes any sense) but i doesn’t happen anywhere else on my body. For the past 3yrs my face has done this i go outside i come back to a warm shelter and my face starts to get red etc. etc. last summer i went to Pakistan (its hot over there) and maybe my skins not used to it? But I just wanted to know what this is, if anyone has ever had this, and other info u can give. Thanks P.S. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my whole life

Ok, I’m looking for a house soon (my first place), I want to know what kind of house will hold up during a sever thunderstorm (including tornadoes). I live in Alabama and we just had a tornado outbreak a few weeks ago. What material should I look for, I HATE vinyl siding. And also should if be slab or crawl space? And one level or two. I feel safer in a two level townhouse. I don’t care about pricing and I am planing on getting a storm shelter built in or outside my house, but I still want my home to be safe so I won’t have to run to shelter every time I hear noise from the sky.

Btw I hate crawl space unless it’s a must have. My aunt has crawl space and she’s had enough rodents, animals and reptiles come in her house to make a zoo. I’m talking about lizards, squirrels, rabbits, even stray cats. And that frightens me lol.

Oh! Those pooooor alligators! Homeless! Due to flooding!
***Pan to Pal scarfing down 4 donuts****
***Pan back to Susie, barfing****
And those pooooor snakes! Homeless! Due to flooding!

***Pan to homeless people in New York alley***

Wildlife and Fisheries Agent:
"Well, Susie, these animals need dry land.
Someplace to find shelter.
We’re doing all we can."

***pan to Agent giving ticket to starving person, fishing***

Oh those pooooor….what-d-ya call those, with tails?
***pan to Agent looking in Wildlife book***
"Well, Susie, I’ve seen those. They swim."
"Might be why they’re wet, Mr. Agent"

"Get out here!!!! Pal!!! Bring one for me!"
***pan to Pal, wiping mouth, grinning 95 teeth***
"None left, but hey! What about those mosquitos!!!
Let’s not leave them out, Susie!"

***pan to Susie, kicking Pal’s but***
"And you ate ALL those donuts??!!!!"
"Susie! Susie! Remember those mosquitos!!!"
***pan to camera guy, putting on mic***

"And now, more news of the Morganza disaster.
Give a donation for those homeless alligators,
snakes, and unknown things.
They need food and shelter."
I actually saw this c-rap on the weather channel this morning! Never saw it again. Apparently it touched a few ‘nerves’.
And the Wildlife and Fisheries guy….exact words from him.

No mosquitos mentioned, but I’m still waiting.
Gene….Good Morning! Yes, I’ve written a lot of plays. One act plays. They’re fun!

I live in a tornado area and I’m moving into a third-floor apartment. There is no interior hallway, no 24-hour community building.

My parents are a (typically) 15 minute drive away, and have a nice big brick house with a basement. In bad weather or bad traffic, this could go up to 30 min. We get tornado watches OFTEN, but will usually get additional cautionary information if the storm is going to be especially bad or is expected to spawn more tornadoes.

Once it’s a tornado warning, when is it too late to drive to shelter? How far is too far? There is also a flimsy-looking but large walmart and another 24-hour store that are only 5-10 minutes away by car.

No plumbing, no heat, no electricity. Just something to sleep in that’ll keep animals and bugs from getting to me and my friends and boyfriend. Tents are not affordable for me. I live in northern Michigan so the weather is crazyy. Any suggestions?

My dogs have shelter outside but what if a tornado comes?
is it better for me to lock them up in the shed with food and water too keep them out of the storm or would it be better to let them stay in their usual environment to where they could run away from the bad weather or tornado if they needed too? Someone suggested me leaving them as they as in their usual shelter Just incase they needed to run away they would be able to have some type of chance instead of being shut in somewhere and not being able to run away if they needed?
If this sounds bad to people I am sorry but it’s not like it sounds. My dogs are well cared for, they get fed more then twice a day ( too much actually ) they go to the vet and get their shots and etc I was just thinking because i’ve never been in this situation and we are suposed to have alot of tornadoes heading our way. So please help and NO rude commments i will report you
The dogs Can’t go to the shelter with us I posted this.
Are next door neighbor has a storm shelter we go too but the guy is allergic to dogs and they have 3 kids but i don’t think all the kids are allergic just one but we can’t take the dogs with us and there isnt anywhere else to go

I read on CNN new "evidence" that these recent horrible are caused by AGW and that we should be more worried about reducing our carbon foot print than building tornado shelters…

I work graveyard, and it just seems like my neighbors dog goes on for hours barking, because my neighbour is too big of a dumbass to realize that, if he’s not willing to share shelter on the inside then he shouldn’t own one to leave outside in bad weather when he’s gone at work I love animals, but why can’t freakin dogs conclude that "I’m wasting my energy and all this barking is getting me nowhere, and I might as well wait for my master to return because he couldn’t hear me anyway.

I saw many homes with dogs that were tied-up outside (Florianopolis, Brazil) in horrible conditions : weather, shelter, space etc and was wondering what the law is on this issue. I have read an overview on Brazil’s Legal Structure for Animal Issues, but cannot find any specific information on the subject, I would appreciate any information , thank you.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police had little to go on Sunday in the search for a Utah woman who hasn’t been seen for a full week.

Twenty-eight-year-old Susan Powell was reported missing from a Salt Lake City suburb in a case that police call suspicious.

She left behind two children and a husband, who says he doesn’t know what happened to her.

West Valley City Police Capt. Tom McLachlan says at least eight detectives worked the case Sunday, fielding any tips or leads they can get from the family or friends.

Detectives are appealing for the public’s help.

They plan to conduct another interview early this week with husband Josh Powell, who told police he left his wife and took his boys, ages 2 and 4, on a camping trip around midnight Dec. 6 in subfreezing temperatures.

Powell told police he slept in a van with the boys in Utah’s west desert. Police say he returned home Tuesday evening. They haven’t been able to verify the camping trip because snow had covered the spot where he said he went.

The missing woman’s father, Chuck Cox, sat down to tell the detectives everything he knew about his daughter Sunday, then took a few hours off "after going nonstop for six days," said a spokeswoman for Susan Powell’s family in Payallup, Wash.

"We don’t have any reason or direction or anything that would give us an idea that she’s at one place or another," said the spokeswoman, Shelby Gifford.

In Utah, many of the family members and friends were fasting, praying and resting Sunday, said Damon Talbot, president of the nonprofit Destiny Search Project. Talbot helps maintain a Facebook page for Susan Powell that was created by her best friend, Kiirsi Hellewell in West Valley City. Hellewell had nothing new to report Sunday afternoon.

Police say they can’t confirm the husband’s account of taking a camping trip while his wife disappeared.

Detectives visited the spot, Simpson Springs on the historic Pony Express Trail in Utah’s west desert. Josh Powell told authorities he kept shelter with his children in a van while camping.

McLachlan said police questioning of the 4-year-old child wasn’t definitive. He declined to elaborate.

"It’s still a missing-person case. We don’t have any information or fact to move it from that classification," McLachlan said. "But it is very suspicious to us, given the circumstances."

Susan Powell disappeared without taking her purse or cell phone or other items "that you would normally associate with somebody leaving the house," he said.

I have a 13 yr old schnouzer/ yorkie mix that escaped from our back yard last Monday evening. We live in MN and it was about 40 degrees that night and kind of drizzling so I don’t think she was too cold when she first left. That’s the only reason she leaves and not comes straight back in cuz she is usually cold having somewhat of a short haircut. Anyway, the temp dropped dramatically the next day and by Weds a snow storm moved in with blowing snow and it got to -10 for three nights in a row. We searched for her and called the shelter they would bring her too if she was picked up by the city. No luck. Friday it started to warm up. it got to about 40 and at noon the neighbor girl came to our door and asked if that was our dog and pointed a few houses down. I was shocked! I was for certain she had froze, was hit by a car or someone took her in (which was what I was hoping someone took her in). She was just stepping down from someones door just three houses down from ours. Like she was going to the door to get in. In the past she had come back after about three hours and had scratched at the front door. I think this is what she was doing and may have been lost and confused. She was skinny, and stumbling like her hips hurt and I’m sure she was dehydrated. My question..what could she have done out there to survive?! I have heard of dogs surviving in situations like this. Any ideas how? It was a miracal! She is acting more and more like herself now. I was almost sure she would come down with pneumonia or something

My female maltipoo is a year and a few months old and she will pee in the house when she dislikes the weather outside. She will wait at the door to be let out to pee and as soon as I open the door, if it is too cold out, or if it is raining as it is today, she refuses to go out. I bought her a rain jacket, put it on her and went outside and stood with her out in the rain and she just stands their and will not pee. As soon as I gave up and took her back inside she promptly peed on the floor. Whenever she does this it is a huge pee so I can tell she is holding it in till the last possible moment. She does have a sheltered area outside to go to the bathroom however it does still get somewhat damp from the rain and of course when it is cold there is not much I can do. Also I live in Southern California so it is not like I am trying to get her to go out in a horrible storm or anything. Please help!

I am a person that really enjoyed the rain and gloomy weather, for example I work outside and there was a day that I was cleaning up trash while everyone else was running for shelter. Some people look at me like I there is something wrong with me. But how most people enjoy the sun, I can’t stand it. I always feel happier and more relaxed when its storming and raining. Does anyone else feel this way?

Does their insistence on issuing severe weather warnings so that people may take shelter anger God, who obviously sent the weather to murder those caught in its path? Why or why not?

my boyfriend has a 1 year old Husky who is an outdoor dog most of the time… He has a big dog house for him, lots of shelter, blankets, small heater, etc etc.. I was wondering if it would make it even warmer for him if we put some ceader chips (sorta like hamster bedding.. they sell a huge bag of it here at wal mart.. and they are sold out now!).. in his dog house.. will it be good for warmth? He loves being outside.. he has no problem with it at all.. He does come in the house too, plz dont think he is out there 24/7, he isnt. Its just we are in a small trailer right now because we are only out here for his job for temporary, and there isnt much room in it.. (hes a husky/blue heeler mix.. bout 50-60 pounds and HYPER).. but we love him and didnt want to just give him away. He is mostly husky, so he shouldnt be too bad in the snow.. their coats are meant for it.

thanks in advance for answers.
