Do residents in the Orlando area have to evacuate when a hurricane hits anywhere in florida?
Me and my wife are planning on moving to the Central Florida area but she is afraid of storms, so I was just wondering if people who live in that area have to evacuate just like residents on the coast do?

When people who live on the coast evacuate due to a Hurricane Warning, they move inland, towards Orlando and other towns. The Hurricane evacuations are advised for several reasons; Storm Surge (not a problem in Orlando), flooding, being cut off from the mainland if bridges are damaged, people with medical problems who need uninterrupted electricity, and people who live in homes that are not able to hold up in winds (like mobile homes).
There are a few spots in and around Orlando where people may need to evacuate; if your home is in a low area that can flood, if you live in a home that is not able to withstand high winds like a mobile home, or if there are medical problems.
I have lived in Central Florida since 1967; and have never had to evacuate. My neighborhood near downtown Orlando was affected by Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and then Jeanne in 2004; that was a very rare occurrence of 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks. My roof was damaged. Several of my neighbors had large trees crash through their homes. We were without power for 10 days after Charley, and for shorter periods after Frances and Jean. The roads into our neighborhood were blocked with debris. It was uncomfortable, and the clean-up was hard work; but we all help each other. The trick is to be prepared ahead of time.
My neighborhood has not been affected by a hurricane since the three that came in 2004. So; yes we prepare every year, but we do not get a hurricane here every year. Florida is a huge State; so not all hurricanes affect the whole state.
im sorry but hahahahahaha thats a stupid question besides in hurricanes cities only get evacuated if its a category 4 or 5 why the fuck should she be scared ive lived in florida all my life was in katrina rita wilma and many others and never been scared and im 14
No,..I lived there once for 10 years & I’ve never heard of any evacuation ever taking place.
No. Hurricanes weaken quite a bit when they hit land, and they are usually so weakened by the time they get to the middle of the state that they’re basically just a bad thunderstorm with some wind. Even for people who live right on the coast, mandatory evacuations are really rare. I briefly lived on the Gulf coast and went through several hurricanes there. We never had to evacuate, and our property was never damaged. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, just that it’s not as common as some out-of-state people imagine it is. You could live here for 20 years and never have to evacuate.
Honestly, a few hurricanes during just a few months of the year aren’t anything to worry about. I’ve experienced worse weather in the northeast than I ever have here. We have houses in both PA and FL, and the damage to our property and trees in PA because of winter storms are much worse than we’ve ever had in FL because of hurricanes. I’ll take a couple of weak hurricanes here and there over months of blizzards and ice storms any day!
