Dogs with no shelter?
My back yard neighbor has 2 large dogs, ones a german shepard mix and the other is a lab pit mix. The dogs live outside. Day and night. Whether the neighbor is home or not they are out there. They are fed and watered but they have no dog house, no shelter at all from the elements. Today it rained and they were just sitting out there getting rained on and shivering. On other days it gets very very hot here in TX and they’re just laying out on the concrete patio asleep in the hot sun. My question is- is this ok? Aren’t dogs supposed to have a dog house or some kind of shield from the weather? Am I overreacting? Who should I call about this so they can let him know this is wrong?

Yes,they should have food-shelter-and water, call your local Humane Society..
You’re not overreacting at all. Dogs should have some sort of shelter and at least food and water outside for them. If the conditions truly are terrible, I advise you call your local animal shelter for advice about re-placing neglected dogs. If it’s not as terrible, I would talk to your neighbor, and gently suggest they should change a little. If that doesn’t work, I would go back to step A and call the animal shelter.
Please call the local ascpa right away…Yes dogs do need shelter from the elements…
If you’re really worried about it, i suggest telling the owners your opinion, letting them know you feel they should be at least sheltered from the elements. You can call pet services, or build them a doghouse yourself.
Check with your local SPCA.
Sorry to say it but Texas is kind of lax when it comes to domesticated animal rights.
Not all dogs are ranch animals anymore.
You should totally call the aspca or your local animal control and explain to them what’s going on and how you feel about about the situation and hopefully they will contact the owners and they’ll do something about the situation. but what there doing is totally wrong that in my book is called animal abuse, those dogs shouldn’t be in hot they should have a place for shade and a house when the weather is cold or raining. but yeah i hope this helps!
I have a really nice house I built for my outside dog, he only uses it in really heavy rains, even in winter he will burrow intot he snow instead of going inside.
Call your local humane society right away!! The owner might not know what they are doing is wrong and it is apart of the humane soceity’s mission to help educate those people. Do not be afraid to call because you think that your neighbor will automatically have their animals taken away. Please call and report it.
Do you guys in TX have a SPCA or something around those sorts? If you do then you should call them, and if you dont call a local shelter. Its animal abuse for a dog or any animal to not have any shelter. If it gets to hot then the dogs could over heat and get heat stroke, and possibly die. And no one likes to be in the cold. And its possible the dogs may have fleas or ticks from living outside all the time if they don’t treat stuff like that. Email me and tell me is the dogs are okay sanngagnon@yahoo.com
dogs are suppossed to have "adequate" shelter (most states/cities consider 3 sides and a roof to be adequate)..
contact your local dog warden or animal control officer and report that the dogs have no shelter. There are minimal requirements that pets must be provided.. and shelter is one of them!
