Homeowner’s insurance minimal hurricane deductible?
has increased from 0 to ,206 with my latest renewal! I don’t live in an area that has hurricanes very often either! I have had Metlife for over 20 years with never any claims. The only way to get a lower deductible is if I have unbreakable windows or motorized storm shutters. The premium has gone down 0 but I would rather have the 0 deductible.
Anyone else heard of this or is it just Metlife?
I live in Tyngsboro Massachusetts which is 35 miles from the ocean.

Where do you live? Unfortunately, this has been occurring frequently in hurricane areas. You probably can get a lower deductible, but your premium will most likely sky rocket.
Depends on where you live. If you’re in Texas or Florida, regardless of claims history, I don’t know anyone who will give you a flat $500 deductible for wind damage (aka, hurricane coverage). It’s almost ALWAYS going to be a percentage deductible - usually 2% to 10%.
But you don’t say where you are. So, you’ll have to call around to local agents, and ask if someone gives wind coverage with a flat deductible.
Due to the fact that the wind deductible is listed SEPERATELY, I’m guessing that you’re in a high wind risk area, probably coastal. In low wind risk areas, insrance companies don’t have a seperate deductible for wind.
Depends on where you live. "not very often" means you still get hurricanes. Florida and the Carolina’s get more hurricanes than Mississippi - but look what Katrina did to that state!
If Metlife is requiring storm shutters then you are in a hurricane prone area - my guess would be some part of Florida.
