How Do You Feel About "Enemies" Donations Being Rejected In Wake Of Tragedies?
Many of our country’s "enemies" have offered help to us in wake of tragic events; most of their offers refused.
In Hurricane Katrina, Cuba was one of the first nations to respond and offered to send doctors, tons of medicinal supplies, and money. The US Government declined and told Cuba "no". Now say what you want about political differences but if help is offered immiediately it really doesn’t matter who it is coming from and you are declining the supplies offered to the people who need it.
Also in Hurricane Katrina assistance from France was at first rejected but we later on accepted their aid.
On 9/11 Mayor Guiliani would not accept a 1 million dollar donation from Saudi Arabia.
How do you feel about our government declining the aid of our "enemies". I use "enemies" in quotes because I don’t regard Cuba and France as threats to us. It is a way to mend relations with our nations; to work together in wake of tragedies. A step towards making progress during these wars.

That is odd that the Saudi Arabia help was declined, because they aren’t really our enemies, per se. Maybe there was more strings attached to this money than we know. I mean, a government cannot just wire money to another government.. there are processings, legislation, and protocol. Maybe they wanted something we couldn’t morally give.
But yeah, if there wasn’t any stipulation, then we suck.
As far as Guiliani declining it was because the Saudis were suggesting that it happened because we support Israel. They sort of suggested that we did it to ourselves. Guiliani told them to fuckoff.
Cuba? You’re kidding?! Castro is a brutal dicator that starves his own people. We shouldn’t take money from that old devil.
It was 10 million from Saudi declined by Rudy. Greece wanted to send cruise ships to house the homeless and Spain wanted to send emergency medical professionals. Canada also wanted to send medical and additional security. Maldovi - the poorest of all European countries- wanted to send 5000.00 also rejected. Assistance for Poland was also declined. It wasn’t our enemies but our closest allies.
I think we shouldn’t look gift whores in the mouth.
This is the result of us allowing our stupid political leaders the ‘decide’ who our so-called ‘enemies’ are.
But, we are ultimately to blame for these situations, as we elect these idiots in the first place.
Aren’t we a bunch of halfwits?
thequeen (above) Well said!
It is called the arrogance of our nation’s government. Tragedies such as those should have been used as stepping stonesw to make "enemies" into friends because those tragedies are not about the government but about the people. those are the things that tend to remind people that it is not about the heads of state but about the individuals of the country that experienced the tragedy.
The thing with Katrina and France, The US government rejected it but the state said , "Screw them" and accepted it
Members of government when they reject aid, like to walk around as if the they have a large set hanging between their legs and that same money that Giuliani rejected could have been probably used to help some of the first responders who are now struggling with medical issues and medical insurance coverage, or helped fund and/or expand the search for remains of some of the firefighters whose bodies were later "scooped and dumped" on Rudy’s orders. I guess we’ll never know
