Sure, do a search for Florida Insurance on yahoo answers. There are NO rated carriers writing new policies - you'll have to go through the state insurance, Citizens. If you're not in Florida, they've got the highest homeowners rates in the US. The homeowners, excluding flood and wind, will cost you about 5X what they will anywhere else. Add the flood, and the wind, and for that house, you need to budget about $8,000 a year for insurance.
There are a LOT of insurance industry "gurus" on this site but each State has their OWN rules and regulations.
I would suggest that you go to http://www.switchboard.com and go to the city or area where you are planning on moving. Then you can use a keyword like "hurricane insurance" or "flood insurance" and it should give you a list of agencies. Just look for the PIA logo or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you should be able to find a knowledgeable source for ALL of your insurance related questions.
There might even be websites listed for these agents. Then, I would pick out a local independent agent as they would normally have more than one company to use and ask them.
You can ALWAYS get better advise by dealing with an agent that is LOCAL to the risk….they'll know better than most of us.
You have a LOT of different exposures there on the coast that AREN'T just hurricanes!
Good luck on your move and I hope this helps!
