!!!!! Hurricane Alert!!!!!!!!!!?
People that live in coastal areas answer this question.
Do you even have an escape or evacuation plan if a hurricane comes? Or a hurricane kit and hurricane shutters? Do you have a house built to withstand a hurricane? Please answer my questions.
Thanks!

No I do not have a hurricane escape or evacuation plan. Here on Long Island,NY we’re at a high risk for a major Category 3 or more hurricane which might even happen this year or the following years and no one’s aware of it so I don’t even know where the nearest hurricane shelter would be. I’ll just stay in a hurricane shelter. I’m starting to get my hurricane kit ready just in case and I don’t have hurricane shutters, I’ll just put wood to cover up the windows. My house survived Hurricanes, Donna(1960), Belle(1976), Gloria(1985) and a few others. But those were only Category 1 or 2 and my house was built after the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 which was the last major hurricane so I don’t know if it will last through a major one. I’ll see when it happens. Here on Long Island, many people are unaware of our high risk for a major hurricane which could happen in the next few months and no one is prepared. I’m starting to prepare now.
of course we have an evacuation plan. Hurricane shutters are called plywood and yes, we have them. And our house has outlasted three hurricanes at least since we moved into it. All of which we sat out in our house and ate barbque on the grill with the neighbors afterward to use up the meat in the freezer before it went bad because the electric was off. Oh, and at least half the block has generators and we all share. We share chainsaws as well. Most people look out for their neighbors in Florida - we even pick up the shingles in our yard and return them to the neighbor with the roof to match.
I’ve lived on the coast my whole life and been through a good number of hurricanes. Trust me, they’re not as scary as the weather channel makes them out to be. You just have to know what you’re doing and use common sense about when to leave and where you build your house in the first place. Doesn’t hurt to have a six pack of beer to convince the electric company workers to come fix your street’s power next either.
