Hurricane Gustav, being a category 2 hurricane when it hit Louisiana, was considered by our nation as a false alarm. Sure, the levees held, New Orleans really didn’t get the damage it was expected, and we all moved on with our lives. Except for the state’s capitol, Baton Rouge. i’m so sorry for you! : ( but you are right about people thinking it is a “false alarm”! i live in massachusetts and all i heard about the hurricane was that it was a category 2!…i never saw any other footage after that, and I watch the news EVERYDAY!!

This is one of the reasons WHY we must restore out barrier islands. Followed or in conjunction with restoration of our coastline. Island restoration would cost about 100 million dollars a paltry sum relative to many of the projects proposed for hurricane protection….even if the islands only reduced damage by 5% per storm..it would quickly repay itself.

Rita took our power out for ten days. it was hot and humid and it sucked really bad glad to know your all ok.
wow that really should open up peoples eyes , that was some pretty bad damage and plus as your video said alot of ppel were without power and their own houses ruined or damaged b/c of it… but still im so glad your ok and your family . i hope whatever damage that was done gets taken care of quickly though.
On the news, here in the UK, we had been told Luisiana was pretty much ok, and the hurricane really wasn’t as bad as they had expected…
We obviously shouldn’t completely trust the media I suppose..

his moving to kentucky now

i didn’t know you lived in baton rouge. hang in there! we live in houston and are waiting for ike to come barreling through here soon. a couple of my coworkers are evacuating, but they live near galveston.

FYI, power was lost to 1.4 million homes… your numbers are just the Entergy customers, but there was Demco too… so about 3 million people altogether (more than 1 person in most households). Your video’s well done. Thanks for posting it!
