dang…I was just there about a month ago. I wonder if it will ever be the same?
i road it out in seabrook and i cant even imagine what it would be like riding it out in bolivar
I saw this hitting the Galveston/Boliver on the 9th and was very concerned. A few days later, my forecast was on the money. Weather spotters, God Bless and 73’s
Sryspy7,
They needed to look for bodies and recover them first. Like me, a lot of people on or near the water will not leave unless the storm is a cat 4 or greater.
i live just north of houston and just got power earlier today!! this storm was a beast!and like katrina will never be forgotten!! i wanna thank all of the linemen who restored power so quickly but for galveston it will take time god bless!!
Well your plan is obviously flawed. I don’t think people really took into consideration that this storm was the size of Texas, literally. When the officials knock on your door and ask you to write your name and SS# on your arm so they can later identify your body…..it might just be time to quit being stubborn and leave!
I live just northeast of houston and we were on the dirty side of Ike lots of tornados power went out on Friday afternoon before the storm even made it here and I did not get power back until 2 days ago. I have friends who are still using generators and the news says some will not get power back until Oct 5. My prayers and sympathy go out to the many who have lost their homes and loved ones. But we are a strong community here in TX and we will rebuild!
There are people missing but I do not hear it from the media just from friends is anyone bothering to look for them there is no mention at all about the people I know one police officer is missing his daughters and wife and there were killings at the gas stations waiting in line but no news coverage, politicians say everything is ok.,bunch of BS
Then Ike hit us and thank god many of us are Okay but many others lost everything and even their lives. I got power on Sunday of that weekend and the day before I was feeling so nervous just thinking of what we were going to do with no power and businesses closed for basic necessities. God is awesome and I thank him and i also want to thank the people that work really hard to bring our lives back to normal. My sincerest prayers go to everyone that was affected by this hurricane.
I concur we left before the evacuated. This thing pounded cuba and just got stronger.
I live in Winnie and it got really ruff here I stayed like a dumbass at 12:30 we lost electricity, went and fired up the ol 1066 I.H with P.T.O generator at 3:00 we lost power to that thinking the tractor ran out of fuel, Nope….generator went under saltwater looked out the window and the Gulf is in the backyard and were are 8mi inland 19ft above sealevel!!!! Out by Big Hill SPR We got the East eyewall here in Winnie 120+ for 12 hours at the FLYIN’ J ranch.. ME, Johnny Ackle & Brian Blair (B.B)
People on Bolivar who waited until Friday to decide to leave were trapped by the rising tide. At one end, the ferries closed because the tide was too high for them to use the landings. At the other end, the highway flooded. This is a tragedy.
After hearing some so-called official saying that most people who died were doing something stupid, I started thinking of how much earlier that storm surge arrived than we thought it would. Many people who were stranded may have planned to leave but the roads flooded out way before what a normal cat 2 or 3 should have done. Didn’t help how local Galveston authorities downplayed Ike before he arrived. It IS a tragedy and I fear hundreds of people were probably washed out to sea.
I drove throught the ranch Monday and Tuesday prior IKE. Visited SPRs, was told Big Hill @ 30 ft above sea level. We drove down to High Island road the beach, crossed over and looked at the pumpers a workover rig in those cattle fields of water.I knew if it came there with 8 ft it was going to be devastation, During Hurricane Ivan which hit us in the Fl Panhandle it was 16ft 8 miles in also.Hate to hear all the troubles, Ive been there with Ivan and hate to see this happen to anyone.
Steve
I had a pretty good idea it was going to be bad cause at 3:00 pm on FRIDAY the spindletop was already salty!!! yea I told Grayson he should build his house on the hill.. but he didn’t.. I heard it got real deep over on Pipkin too.. the two barges that parked on 73 should be proof enough.. I’m glad the state built the East bound lane up high..
it waz very exciting to see it even though that it was very bad
I also rode out the storm IKE as my name is Mike… get it Mike & Ike candy! I live on the bay side & seen the worst the storm threw. Most of my neighborhood is gone & i still don’t have electric! But 2 ride it was risky & wild but i never gave up! I am not going anywhere Galveston will be fine & rebuild!
the eye went right over me!
song?
i was a fire chief on bolivar, and i beg of all plp that was involved with ike to please remember our elected officials when it comes election time,we were denied entrance to bolivar for search and rescue, and i am telling u alot of plp died due to no help,,we as volenteers risk our lifes just as much as any paid personel, and we loved our comunity, all we wanted to do was help our plp but we were denied that, judge yarhboro and our fine galveston mayor needs to be held accountable for this .
In regards to the last comment posted:
“Sexyfemale23tx” is not and never has been a fire cheif on the Bolivar Peninsula. She is not even a member of any of the local fire departments. Please disregard her comments. Galveston County has been very helpful to the citizen and members of all the fire departments on the Bolivar Peninsulsa.
I didnt get power for three weeks after this.
The part like up to 30 seconds that looks like a leaf , thats where i live and man its horrifying to see this for the 1st time =/
OMG BIG TITLE!! Lol
i lived in huffman during this storm and it almost killed me and my famly of 4…we were in the house when the big oak tree in my backyard fell straight through the center of my house the tree was about 9 feet around, after it fell through the house me and my famly had to find a way out of the house but the house was on top of us…finally when we got out of the house we went to the neighbors house. about 30 min. later we found out that the tree had pulled up a nat. gas line we lost everything
