It is hurricane season, but there isn't one every year. It will be hot and humid. Check out Tripadvisor.com for reviews of hotels. You can also check travel websites Hotels.com for deals on hotels.

Hurricanes are usually tracked for 4-5 days in the gulf. Ample warning.
Temperatures, HOT.

Hurricane season is officially from June 1st to November 30th each year, for everywhere. There are general predictions regarding hurricane activity, but the chances of a hurricane striking anywhere in particular are low.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Atlantic_hurricane_season

All of the hurricanes that approached New Orleans in the past 50 years did so during the period of late August to mid-September. Of those, only Betsy (1965) and Katrina (2005) actually struck New Orleans.

If you travel >> anywhere < your trip might be cancelled by weather (costing you money) then consider buying trip cancellation insurance. It's sold by travel agents & airlines and is cheap. However, you have to buy it in advance.

New Orleans is hot & humid during August. The good news for August visitors is that summer is low season for tourism and hotels typically offer great rates. Stay somewhere with a nice pool.

There are many hotels in the FQ. Check travel sites like Expedia & Orbitz, and check the hotel sites once you narrow your choices. Go to www.frenchquarterhotels.com for some non-chain hotel in the FQ.

The FQ hotels that probably offer the best "New Orleans" experience are the Omni Royal Orleans, the Monteleone, and the Royal Sonesta.

Hope you have a great time!
