It minimizes the ice and snow accumulation. We lived in a house in Denver that faced North. The ice and snow was always a problem. Many times our neighbors across the street didn't have to shovel their snow. The sun melted it and dried the driveway. South is the best choice. It minimizes the ice and snow accumulation.
