INSANE TORNADO VIDEO! Ellis Co, OK tornado on May 4, 2007
Here is a shortened version of the video of the Ellis Co, OK tornado shot by tornadovideos.net storm chasers Reed Timmer and Ken Cole. This tornado occurred with the same storm system as the Greensburg, KS F5, but earlier in the day in northwest OK. Can somebody explain how these things are made? I know a funnel cloud… But what makes the funnel cloud?
It looked like that tree got clipped by the tornado toward the end of the video, but then it was still standing after the funnel passed. Either a really strong tree or the tornado actually passed in front of it.

They aren’t rated by size. I’ve heard the was an EF3 but I’m not sure. Though looking at the debris that sounds about right.

They most likely form when winds from a downdraft wrap around the updraft area of a rotating thunderstorm called a supercell, tightening and intensifying the rotation and potentially forming a tornado.
