Live Footage of Hurricane Charley (part 3)
This is part 3 of my videos of Hurricane Charley. This is by far the worst part of the hurricane. I am in Bonita Springs, Florida. The worst of this storm occurred about 45 to 50 miles to the north of Bonita Springs at Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Charlotte Harbor in Charlotte County. Hear the sound of the wind and see how amazingly strong this hurricane was even 45 and 50 miles to the south of where the worst of Charley occurred.

You seem to have a fascination with storms. I remember Charley, it was pretty neat, too bad I just got the edge of the eye. I love storms too, except when I am flying.
I have an obsession with storms. After Charley, however, I was miserable without electricity with my parents and grandparents. The humidity was very high and it was burning up in their condo w/out air conditioning. The storm shutters were put down before the storm. But b/c they run on electricity, we couldn’t open them and get a breeze blowing. I really never wanted Charley to come, even though hurricanes fascinate me, but since it did, it gave me an oppertunity to video tape it.
eww, high humidity and temperature, that must have sucked not being able to open the shutters/
It did. Fortunately, though, the power came back on again on that Sunday night, the 15th, after 10:00 p.m.
Well, at least you got lucky with it only being out 2 days. Here on the beach we were out for about a week and then it was on/off for another 2 days. We were all lucky there was no storm surge flooding here. Your video reminds me that I need to post my Wilma vids when the screen enclosure ripped apart.
My grandparents used to live at the Bonita Beach Club condo that is right on the beach. You must live on Hickory Blvd if you live on the beach.
Where I live in Alabama, we were affected by Hurricane Ivan about a month after Charley. Ivan was the one that devastated Pensacola.
In 2005, we had Dennis and Katrina and you had Wilma. I wish we could have all that rain now to break the drought, just w/out the wind.
Yes, off of Hickory on the bay side. We left the island for Charley but not Wilma. At least we were able to get back on the island within a day while it was a week or so for Ft. Myers Beach & Sanibel/Captiva. What was hard to take was not having power while homes just across the street did - but FPL did the best they could considering the circumstances.
It is pretty crazy how we went from an overload of storms and rain to severe drought. All a part of the fascination of weather.
Another thing that I just love to see when I come down there during the summer(July or August) are those cloud-to-ground lightning bolts! Don’t those thunderstorms happen down there nearly every day that time of year?
Yes, definitely from late June into late August they can be almost daily. A lot of great pictures are taken that time of year over the Gulf… with double and triple strikes common. These storms frequently form waterspouts over the Gulf too (I know there are a few videos of local ones floating around out there) and one of those waterspouts last year went over land twice and did some damage in Fort Myers Beach & Cape Coral.
That kind of lightning is very dangerous and I have seen them over the gulf, it is beautiful.
i dont know but charley was crazy!!! it was on my brothers birthday and the eye came right over my house. i had alot of damage
try my power wasnt back on until the 26th! but atleast i still had a house to have the power be out. I had alot of damage and a hole in the roof but my house was able to be saved!
Very cool video. Quite entertaining too. Also very amazing that your uncovered/unshuttered windows all appeared to have held up very well to all that wind.
He’s shooting from a window not being hit from the wind. After Charley passed there were buildings everywhere where one half of the building was gutted and the other half had no damage. Especially large condos.
