No hurricanes in 2007?
It’s already August and still not so much as a tropical storm has made landfall. It’s almost as if Mother Earth is granting us immunity after Katrina.
But I mean, come on.. at least one category 1 to give me a few days off of work. And we just got new hurricane shutters.
What do you guys think?

The official range of hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, but landfalls are rare before about August 20.
A good solid tropical storm is forming tonight on a track for the Caribbean. It is expected to become at least a category 2 hurricane by the weekend, under the name "Dean."
So hold on to your hat. Things are just getting cranked up.
Well, there is a good chance that a hurricane would still hit and some could be major. The first hurricane in the year Katrina struck didn"t for until Agust 31. Over the years, the hurricane hotspot is just about to start. So if PI were you, I wouldn’t lose hope yet with hurricanes.
Stay Safe
I thought huricane season only started in the next couple weeks…
I think the experts can predict all day long and that’s all it is .. a prediction. They were talking through their hat last year and they are doing it again this year.
I am very glad.. because those people on the weather channel are getting a bit too smug for their own good. I am glad weather is something we cannot predict with any real form of accuracy.. maybe something that is coming with in with a few hours is a good thing like a tornado.. but none of this long range months in advance stuff its almost like the Farmer’s Almanac.. sometimes its on the money other times well it ain’t
p.s. they have added months to normal hurricane season which used to be June -September.. to May -October .. maybe to make them look like they know something, hardly.
Ha! Global Warming is the cause of our decrease in Hurricane occurances this year… Wait… Global warming is supposed to increase Hurricane occurances till the Atlantic Ocean just becomes one gigantic hurricane. Further Global Warming & this superhurricane will be created by President Bush to punish the poor people of the U.S. for their insolence. Just you wait and see.
Historically speaking, this is just now time for it to gear up - mid-August through September. Tropical Depression 4, which will be named Dean if it reaches tropical storm status, is out there now:http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/.
There is also an area of disturbed weather expected to go into Texas and/or Mexico in a few days. It won’t have time to reach hurricane status, as it was just already in the gulf and fairly close to land, without as much hot water to travel over when it formed.
It looks as though things are gearing up, there are lots of waves coming off Africa now. But I hope they are wrong about the forecast - I’m on the Gulf Coast.
These are the names of the hurricanes that happened in 2007:

the gfs model has show a developing system hitting nyc as a hurricane or trop storm on the 25-26. i dont know if it will happen but it would be a major disaster.
there is a category 4 hurricane that is supposed to hit the Hawaiian islands….Hurricane Flossie is what they are calling it…so I’m guessing thats in the west coast right?? so….nothing to worry about in the east coast yet…
Admittedly, 2006 was a mild year for storms, but the storm season is just starting for 2007 in the US.
The greatest climatologists in the world still can’t predict weather and climate patterns more than a few days in advance. To make up for that, climate models are used, but most are extremely flawed and unreliable.
Careful what you wish for.
