Citgo will be allowed to pull 250,000 barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve because of its inability to secure crude in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.

Venezuela’s government-controlled Citgo Petroleum Corp. said Tuesday that supplies to its refinery in Lake Charles, La., were cut off when the Calcasieu Ship Channel closed.

The U.S. Energy Department granted the request late Tuesday, so far the only request for fuel from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The reserve is an emergency depot maintained by the Energy Department and can hold as much as 727 million barrels of oil in salt caverns along the Coast of Mexico.

Part B - 08/29/2005 B-Roll aftermath footage shot around the New Orleans, LA International Airport that shows the huge difference in the damage depending on the location around the metro area. On the south side of the airport along Airline Highway, there is no flooding, only damage from the high winds. While the south side of the airport was high and dry, the north side of the airport at Williams Blvd. and Veterans Blvd. was flooded with several feet of water and the water was still rising. Footage includes cars floating in the high water and people walking in the high water while large police truck drive through the flooded roadways.

A tornado has leveled parts of Joplin Missouri. 117 deaths confirmed so far. Joplin was a town of 50000 people.

Security cameras video released by Lambert Airport shows dramatic pictures of the tornado that hit St. Louis on Friday. The airport reopened on Saturday night for a handful of arriving flights, and officials expected around 70 percent of the scheduled arrivals and departures to go on as planned early on Sunday. Some 750 homes in the St. Louis region were damaged, and less than 100 were uninhabitable, by the 128 kilometres per hour (80 miles per hour) tornado, officials said. Hurricane Charley Video. Friday the 13th, August 2004. Aftermath Video of Category 4 Hurricane Charley in Punta Gorda Florida. Part 8 of 9. This is part 2 of 3 of the aftermath footage from around Punta Gorda showing the destruction around the city.

Something I’ve noticed about myself is I get an adrenaline rush when something catastrophic happens. I felt like bouncing off the walls on 9/11. I felt excited during the tsunami or in the aftermath of hurricane katrina. I’ve had daydreams of life during a nuclear war, somehow imagining life would be more meaningful in such a situation. Every time we have a thunder storm or major winds I sit at the window hoping it gets worse. I think if I ever saw a tornado in real life I’d drive towards it and am not sure when common sense would take over. What do you think about this adrenaline rush I seem to get in the face of destruction?
It is possible I’m a christian? hehe. No, actually I’m an atheist that doesn’t believe in the afterlife, although I can see how you’d get that impression.
Woah Kobain. There is a difference between enjoying conflict and not doing anything about suffering. I volunteer once a week at a homeless soup kitchen and raise 300 dollars for abused women and children every year.

Katrina or Charley anymore. Katrina destroyed d@mn near 2 whole states, killed thousands of people. Charley destroyed 3 Florida counties, killed about 40 people, some of whom died from complications and aftermath of the storm. Ike was what, a cat. 2 at most?? Charley and Katrina were cat. 5’s!!! I was here for Charley. It destroyed my whole city, my school, it destroyed my house, I’m still making repairs after 4 years… 6 months after Charley hit, my father died, now i’m the only person to make repairs on my home, and my grandmothers house! Katrina did so much more damage that ike and charley, but compared to katrina and charley, ike was nothing, and those morons in houston want to b*tch about a few broken windows in a stupid building! God, count your blessings you selfish morons. At least your buildings are still standing, unlike the rest of ours.

Sorry, I do not mean to offend anyone, I just really needed to vent, and am hoping that some will understand what I mean.
Every hurricane is not the same. And there is no possible way that ike is anywhere near the damage that Katrina wrought.
And that is true, most of that money was wasted. My alma mater wont have a real building until at least 2012, and Charley hit in 2004. But they got the football field done in 6 months. Oh, and all those pretty lampposts along the bridge.
PG, on the river.
9/11 is an entirely different subject. No one ever talks about that either anymore though, you do have a great point. Why dont we ever talk about it anymore? Out of sight, out of mind. Just like the natural disasters. And, we had an hours notice at most when charley hit, because it was supposed to be about 120 miles north of us. We didnt have much of a choice of leaving or staying.

F5 Tornado hits Andover Kansas April 26, 1991. This is my never before seen original video. (Note-Time on clock is 3 hours slow) This video shows 9 minutes in the life cycle of a deadly F5 tornado. The tape ends about one minute before the tornado destroys a large portion of Andover Kansas and completely wipes out the Golden Spur Mobile home park, killing 13 and causing many injuries. At about the 3:00 minute mark you can see it go into a multiple vortex stage followed by the formation of a large wedge tornado. My video of the aftermath is linked in the video responses found below.

tipjoy.com www.hurricanetrack.com This is the third part of my three part series of videos from the “Tracking the Hurricanes: 2005″ DVD of hurricane Katrina. This video picks up 47 days after Katrina along the battered coast of Mississippi. We make our way to Waveland where my colleague and I were going to ride out Katrina in the “safety” of the fire department (make sure you watch parts one and two to understand the sequence of events). We interview fire chief David Garcia as we drive through an almost completely flattened Waveland. The video does not begin to convey the enormity of the devastation there. I end the Katrina section with a music tribute that I composed and performed myself just for the DVD. I think you will find it moving. You can learn more about our work at www.hurricanetrack.com

I mean, if he’s expected to fulfill the duties of those positions PLUS the Louisiana legislature PLUS the New Orleans city council, is he going to be collecting a pension from all those roles?

And why are we paying the people actually IN those positions? Aren’t they supposed to be doing the actual job of rebuilding New Orleans?

Oh, I guess those are all just for show. Their main (and only) job is to point to Bush and complain.

It was really funny watching the aftermath of the hurricane going through Mexico. Within hours, the Mexicans were up on their roofs, nailing things back together, repairing walls, replacing doors, fixing windows.

I guess it just goes to show, while MOST normal people roll up their sleeves and get to work, there are still lots of people in America who think "the government" is going to come to their rescue and they just need to sit and wait while the work gets done for them by someone else.

So pathetic. Cry me a river New Orleans.
America, not just Bush, owes NOTHING to New Orleans.

2 years before Katrina even hit, there was a Frontline documentary about how unprepared they were for a major hurricane, how NO is basically a bowl under sea level, and a single breach of the levee system would be catastrophic.

But, not to worry (PBS assured us), the DEMOCRAT governor and mayor were receiving hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars to reinforce the levee system and insure this would never, ever, possibly happen.

Then it did happen.

So what happened to all that money?

Well, it turns out, they had other needs for it. More important needs.

And this, somehow, is not only Bush’s fault, but all American’s fault?

Sorry, it doesn’t wash.

And what happened to the very people DESERVING the blame for this catastrophe? They got re-elected. Overwhelmingly so.

The true definition of INSANITY.

www.ultimatechase.com The EF-5 tornado that struck the small town of Greensburg, Kansas on May 4th , 2007 caused complete destruction. Over 95% of the town was completely destroyed. This 5 minutes video diary by Mike Theiss of ultimatechase.com shows the destruction in Greensburg and example of why tornadoes are so dangerous and why it’s important to get “underground”.
