One person has been killed and twenty eight others injured as a powerful tornado hit the Russian far-eastern city of Blagoveshchensk on Sunday. According to the local emergency services, six people were taken to hospital where one of them subsequently died. The tornado was so powerful that it tore the roofs from houses, turned over vehicles, flattened trees and smashed windows in several buildings. Local authorities have introduced a state of emergency in the city, Itar-Tass news agency reports. 200 people and 50 vehicles are already involved in the cleaning operation. Hurricane Irene remains on course to batter the east coast of the United States this weekend, as extraordinary images from space reveal the scale of the powerful storm. Irene strengthened to a Category Three storm, with winds of 120mph (195km) as it continued to wreak havoc across the Caribbean and edged towards the US mainland. Live television pictures from the International Space Station, orbiting the earth 200 miles up, showed the sheer size of Irene’s cyclonic cloud. Irene could be upgraded to a Category Four - classified as having winds of up to 155mph - within 24 hours. The first hurricane of this year’s storm season is expected to gather power as it races across the warm waters of the Caribbean in the next 48 hours. Forecasters say it could threaten densely populated centres in the north-east, including New York and Philadelphia, with its predicted path also passing close by major tourist destinations on the coast of the Carolinas. It is expected to miss Florida and Georgia. The tornado tore through the center of Blagoveshchensk, tearing roof-tops and balconies from over a hundred buildings, overturning trucks, uprooting trees and ripping out power lines. It raged only for several minutes but eyewitness reported that it caused incredible damage. Most roads have now been cleared, but hundreds of homes are still without electricity.

Monday was a classic storm chasing day in south central Nebraska as multiple tornadoes hit Hamilton and York counties. We have put together this compilation video from several of our StormChasingVideo.com freelance chasers to show the power and the beauty of the violent tornadoes in Nebraska on Monday. The footage by Eric Treece shows a classic tornado that is back lit by as it rips up a farm field. At one point it passes right behind a farm but does not destroy the buildings. Eric keeps on chasing the tornado after it passed by his location until it dissipated. Part B - 08/29/2005 B-Roll aftermath footage shot around the New Orleans, LA International Airport that shows the huge difference in the damage depending on the location around the metro area. On the south side of the airport along Airline Highway, there is no flooding, only damage from the high winds. While the south side of the airport was high and dry, the north side of the airport at Williams Blvd. and Veterans Blvd. was flooded with several feet of water and the water was still rising. Footage includes cars floating in the high water and people walking in the high water while large police truck drive through the flooded roadways.

Part A - B-Roll video of Hurricane Katrina as the storm starts to hit the Lake Pontchartrain Levee in Kenner, LA. The winds from Katrina start to pick up and the water starts to rise as the hurricane pushes the water to the south side of Lake Pontchartrain and the water starts to rise into a parking lot and over the lake wall. Footage shots include tree’s blowing in the wind and a stop sign being torn apart by the winds of the hurricane. Video also includes footage of the Kenner, LA police out patrolling in the middle of the storm to secure the area around the Pontchartrain Center.
Storm chasers Andy Gabrielson and Dick McGowan encountered several weak tornadoes prior to the development of the large EF-3 tornado that tragically impacted the small town of Mapleton. They abandoned the chase for several hours to assist affected residents.
The Elie, Manitoba Tornado was an F5 tornado that struck the town of Elie, Manitoba on June 22, 2007. While several houses were leveled, no one was injured or killed by the tornado. Me and Tara were driving on the trans-canada right into the the thing, crazy kids, we drove past it about 100 metres away this is when the gap between the approach and the crossing occurs, the audio would not transfer from my Lg chocolate phone to my Macbook pro. There are a few times where we are like its coming towards us go go go, and another time like wow its getting huge. The ground was shaking so we peaced out pretty quick, Pretty sick experience!!!
