I know this year the Gulf Coast had more hurricanes than normal, just like in 2005. I recently heard that that predicts it will be a colder than normal winter. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I really hope it is because I want it to snow here in Houston again. I can’t remeber what the winter of 05 was like, but I don’t remember it being that cold. Can anyone tell me if it may be colder this year or refer me to a good website that talks about this theory? Thanks!
Isn’t this foolhardy as there is so many threats of violence in the middle east.
Won’t prices double or triple should another hurricane hit the gulf coast, and our reserves are low? Remember 2005?
What will happen to our economy if we actually run out of oil???
NO TO DIPPING IN TO THE RESERVES!!!
I live on the gulf coast. Almost all the houses in town (including mine) have decorative fake shutters instead of real ones. Wouldn’t it be a heck of a lot easier to have real shutters and just close them when a hurricane blows into town instead of going out and nailing plywood over the windows? What am I missing here?
I know that this can vary greatly, but we are looking into a project house where about half the exterior wall is made up of windows, floor to ceiling-all of which have to be replaced (we live along the gulf coast, so this is a hurricane damaged property). It’s about 3100 sq ft, and I’d estimate that each section of window is about 10′ wide, 12′ high. Does anyone have an estimate of what this would cost to replace, if not the entire house than just any amount of wall?
Is anybody worried about this years hurricane season? Possibly up to 23 hurricanes? It worrys me because it gives the whole gulf coast a greater risk of getting hit by a hurricane. It’s crazy. Ive been thinking about buying hurricane supplies now to be better prepared. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I wasen’t prepared for Gustav at all and wasent too worried as it was a landfalling category 2. It ended up being the worst storm to ever hit Baton Rouge and I lost most of my roof in that storm, Along with my bathroom window and the pine trees in my yard. Should I start preparing now for possible storms this year? What are yall doing?
I have a newly built stucco home and live in the gulf coast, my question is how do I install hurricane boards without drilling, I found online PLYLOX™ window clips but they are for brick homes. Are there clips for stucco homes?

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — In the neighborhood President Bush visited right after Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. government gave .5 million to more than 10,000 households. But Census figures show fewer than 8,000 homes existed there at the time.
Now the government wants back a lot of the money it disbursed across the region.
?
The Federal Emergency Management Administration has determined nearly 70,000 Louisiana households improperly received 9.1 million in grants, and officials acknowledge those numbers are likely to grow.
In the chaotic period after two deadly hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, slammed the Gulf Coast in 2005 _ Katrina making landfall in late August, followed by Rita in late September _ federal officials scrambled to provide help in hard-hit areas such as submerged neighborhoods near the French Quarter.

Anyone who owns a business in New Orleans or Gulf Coast of the US should have hard time digesting that so many poor African Americans have been mistreated after the hurricane.
How can you all sleep at night and let this problem continue TO THIS DAY????
To make it worse, corporate folks made big dollars off of FEMA contractors who gave free trailors and big money to businesses to supply for needy people, yet the money should have gone to the poor starving families.
How can you people sleep at night and not feel terrible over this?
August 17-Miami Herald
The first hurricane of the 2007 season, Dean was nearly 1,500 miles from South Florida and forecasters expected it to move well south of the region this weekend.
But they also began worrying that a powerful version of the storm could find its way to the Gulf of Mexico next week and pose a threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
”The forecast is becoming more problematic,” said hurricane forecaster Jack Beven of the National Hurricane Center in West Miami-Dade County.
He noted that some of the best computerized forecast models suggested that Dean could curve into the central Gulf of Mexico.
If it did, a portion of the coast from Texas through Florida could be endangered.
My predictions are starting to come true.. FLORIDA
Living on the Gulf Coast we have to watch the weather all the time, can not avoid it. Last time one was heading here I couldn’t remember what emergency supplies to buy, I froze. I have lived here all my like and I couldn’t remember anything. I am trying not to panic as the Season approachs. But it’s hard. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you all.
Democrats, like Michael Moore and a couple of US senators, are making light of hurricane Gustav that is bearing down on the Gulf coast. I’ve read a few "questions" lately that are attempting to blame the Republicans for this hurricane…bringing down the "wrath of God" on them; Moore has likewise insinuated that God is repaying the Republicans for a supposed prayer made by "all Republicans" that it would rain on Obama’s acceptance speech at the DNC. http://availablelightonline.com/blog/2008/08/12/praying-for-rain/
Anyone that cares to know the truth of the matter can simply click on the link below and find out that it was not, in fact, Dobson that called for rain. Dobson had no knowledge of this video when it was made or aired. Most Republicans had no knowledge of the plea and besides, it was a harmless bit if satire.
What the dems are proposing, however, is that many innocent people of their own party will be put in danger from the hurricane brought on by the republican’s earlier, misguided prayer.
Are dems, once again, making a mountain out of a mole hill?
