Doe anybody know where I can get some FREE DOWNLOADABLE Hurricane Katrina storm footage?
It has to be Windows Movie Maker Compatable!!

I need it for a movie I’m making.

How does the United States’ Federal System affect disaster relief efforts? This pertains especially to Hurricane Katrina in 2004.

Inflation is when a currency decreases in value, and deflation is when a currency increases in value.

So like with Hurricane Katrina for example wouldn’t it actually be both because the natural disaster caused the damage which in turn could cause deflation because then people are going to be needing more of certain supplies, and if the natural disaster is big enough couldn’t it cause insufficient money supplies?

If there was a draft for the war in Iraq, would you support it or not?

I would not support a draft, and I do not believe in sending more people to Iraq. This war is based on the oil supply. If we don’t intervene, then we lose our supply.

What about alternate fuels? why isn’t there more finding put into that instead?

If not alternate fuels, what about alternate sources of oil, such as in Alaska?

My history teacher once said that gas companies have paid researchers to stop doing research on alternate fuels, in order to keep their market.

Gas companies have done other shady things, like raising the gas price after hurricane Katrina, even though the supply didn’t suffer. Why would they do that? Is it legal? This will all be affecting me in 2 years when I graduate and go to college, where I will need to pay for gas.

According to Robert Greene, in his 1998 bestselling book The 48 Laws of Power, power can be effectively achieved by creating a cult like following (LAW 27). This takes 5 easy steps. Lets see how the environmental alarmist have followed them.

STEP 1: KEEP IT VAGUE; KEEP IT SIMPLE.

The alarmist position tends to emphasize (to the exclusion of other factors in the most extreme cases) the role of CO2 as a greenhouse gas, and only give other factors that can impact the earth temperature changes (like the sun) a passive and even dismissive look. They tell people that the oracle of the computer models predict the future of earth. But they keep the complexities and limitations of computer modeling and statistical methods (such as data mining and curve fitting) hidden because they “complicate” the issues as do factors other than CO2. (http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V3/N6/EDIT.jsp )It’s easier to mobilize people on the basis of a simple solution to a simple clear-cut problem, which climate science is not.

Compare the scientific content of Al Gore’s website ( http://www.climatecrisis.net/thescience/ ) to that of groups opposing the alarmist position (http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/Index.jsp )

STEP 2: EMPHASIZE THE VISUAL AND SENSUAL OVER THE INTELLECTUAL.

Alarmist appeal to fears and emotions. Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth” uses images of mundane environmental occurrences (the breaking off of ice from Antarctica) to the extraordinary (Hurricane Katrina) as “proof” of extreme climate change.( http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YmFiZDAyMWFhMGIxNTgwNGIyMjVkZjQ4OGFiZjFlNjc= ) Appeals to animal lovers telling them of coming extinctions and showing polar bears. (http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-03/aiob-ipo022307.php ) And then tell it’s all the fault of CO2 and mostly human emissions of CO2. Like Mr. Gore, many environmentalist shy away from the full on scientific debate and give little if any proof of all this apocalyptic events to come. (http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V1/N2/EDIT.jsp ) And whenever a report proving some widely held assumption wrong, it gets buried in academic journals. http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/articles/V2/N12/EDIT.jsp

STEP 3: BORROW THE FORMS OF ORGANIZED RELIGION

The proselytizing about the coming apocalypse using armies of true believing unqualified volunteers is reminiscent of the way Christianity spreads. The zealotry and redeeming actions that individuals must flagellate themselves with are constantly preached. Even the medieval indulgences sold by the Roman Catholic Church have resurfaced in the form of carbon emission offsets. And of course, lets not forget the High Holidays such as Earth Day. (http://www.earthday.org/ )

STEP 4: DESGUISE YOUR SOURCE OF INCOME

Alarmist cry that all those who oppose their view are being financed by the evil oil and automotive multinational corporations. They moan that any research that gives evidence that makes their claims doubtful is being paid with blood money. This of course takes the attention from the billions of dollars that are being provided by governments ( http://ec.europa.eu/environment/funding/pdf/handbook_funding.pdf , http://www.rec.org/REC/Databases/Funders/Default.html ; http://www.epa.gov/epahome/finance.htm ) to research the effects of global warming on everything, but anyone who dissents get’s their funding cut (http://www.CapMag.com/article.asp?ID=4941 ). All the fear mongering pressures politicians to provide all this earmarked taxpayer money.

STEP 5: SET UP AN US-THEM DYNAMIC

As mentioned above, anyone who opposes the alarmist view is demonized as Deniers (equating them to the neo-nazis) (http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/archives/story.html?id=216ca730-10f0-4614-9692-fc37d99cbac3 ) and many even ask for charges of crimes against humanity for them http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewBusiness.asp?Page=\Business\archive\200205\BUS20020529a.html ). http://a4a.mahost.org/fakes.html

We are replacing windows damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The replacement windows that we like are Simonton Prism Platinum. The literature says the installation method is "hook-a-bou." I don’t know what that is.

How do you people who believe in global warming explain the false predictions? After hurricane Katrina, the high priests of global warming predicted more and more class 5 hurricanes. For the past twenty years, the high priest has kept pushing his doomsday clock back by 5-10 years. How can cold weather, like this current month of May, or two bitterly cold winters in a row, be blamed on global warming? How do you account for the polar ice caps growing to pre-1980 levels? And why was the label of your church changed from "global warming" to "climate change."

And what do you think of this new church heralding the next ice age? Which, to me, makes far more sense if you bother to read the Pravda link.

I relocated to Atlanta after Hurricane Katrina. I have been trying to find a job for 4 months now with no luck. I will take anything I have 8 years of Data Entry/Clerical exp. I have a son, and am also taking care of 2 of my cousins kids (my cousin drowned in the hurricane). I need a job NOW we are facing homelessness.

During the previous seven years, America has been hit hard by 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Virginia, etc. Knowing about all the ways you can end up in the hospital, or even dead, what would fulfill the requirements for a living creature to be "safe"? Is complete "saftey" even possible?

Video Shows Bush Was Warned Before Katrina
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP)—In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans’ Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage.

Bush didn’t ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

The footage—along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press—show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.

Linked by secure video, Bush’s confidence on Aug. 28 starkly contrasts with the dire warnings his disaster chief and a cacophony of federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm.

A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and then-Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown told the president and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that he feared there weren’t enough disaster teams to help evacuees at the Superdome.

"I’m concerned about … their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe," Brown told his bosses the afternoon before Katrina made landfall.

Some of the footage and transcripts from briefings Aug. 25-31 conflicts with the defenses that federal, state and local officials have made in trying to deflect blame and minimize the political fallout from the failed Katrina response:

—Homeland Security officials have said the "fog of war" blinded them early on to the magnitude of the disaster. But the video and transcripts show federal and local officials discussed threats clearly, reviewed long-made plans and understood Katrina would wreak devastation of historic proportions. "I’m sure it will be the top 10 or 15 when all is said and done," National Hurricane Center’s Max Mayfield warned the day Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast.

"I don’t buy the `fog of war’ defense," Brown told the AP in an interview Wednesday. "It was a fog of bureaucracy."

—Bush declared four days after the storm, "I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" that gushed deadly flood waters into New Orleans. But the transcripts and video show there was plenty of talk about that possibility—and Bush was worried too.

White House deputy chief of staff Joe Hagin, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Brown discussed fears of a levee breach the day the storm hit.

"I talked to the president twice today, once in Crawford and then again on Air Force One," Brown said. "He’s obviously watching the television a lot, and he had some questions about the Dome, he’s asking questions about reports of breaches."

—Louisiana officials angrily blamed the federal government for not being prepared but the transcripts shows they were still praising FEMA as the storm roared toward the Gulf Coast and even two days afterward. "I think a lot of the planning FEMA has done with us the past year has really paid off," Col. Jeff Smith, Louisiana’s emergency preparedness deputy director, said during the Aug. 28 briefing.

It wasn’t long before Smith and other state officials sounded overwhelmed.

"We appreciate everything that you all are doing for us, and all I would ask is that you realize that what’s going on and the sense of urgency needs to be ratcheted up," Smith said Aug. 30.

Mississippi begged for more attention in that same briefing.

"We know that there are tens or hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana that need to be rescued, but we would just ask you, we desperately need to get our share of assets because we’ll have people dying—not because of water coming up, but because we can’t get them medical treatment in our affected counties," said a Mississippi state official whose name was not mentioned on the tape.

Video footage of the Aug. 28 briefing, the final one before Katrina struck, showed an intense Brown voicing concerns from the government’s disaster operation center and imploring colleagues to do whatever was necessary to help victims.

"We’re going to need everything that we can possibly muster, not only in this state and in the region, but the nation, to respond to this event," Brown warned. He called the storm "a bad one, a big one" and implored federal agencies to cut through red tape to help people, bending rules if necessary.

"Go ahead and do it," Brown said. "I’ll figure out some way to justify it. … Just let them yell at me."

Bush appeared from a narrow, windowless room at his vacation ranch in Texas, with his elbows on a table. Hagin was sitting alongside him. Neither asked questions in the Aug. 28 briefing.

"I want to assure the folks at the state level that we are fully prepared to not only help you during the storm, but we will move in whatever resources and assets we have at our disposal after the storm," the president said.

A relaxed Chertoff, sporting a polo shirt, weighed in from Washington at Homeland Security’s operations center. He would later fly to Atlanta, outside of Katrina’s reach, for a bird flu event.

One snippet captures a missed opportunity on Aug. 28 for the government to have dispatched active-duty military troops to the region to augment the National Guard.

Chertoff: "Are there any DOD assets that might be available? Have we reached out to them?"

Brown: "We have DOD assets over here at EOC (emergency operations center). They are fully engaged. And we are having those discussions with them now."

Chertoff: "Good job."

In fact, active duty troops weren’t dispatched until days after the storm. And many states’ National Guards had yet to be deployed to the region despite offers of assistance, and it took days before the Pentagon deployed active-duty personnel to help overwhelmed Guardsmen.

The National Hurricane Center’s Mayfield told the final briefing before Katrina struck that storm models predicted minimal flooding inside New Orleans during the hurricane but he expressed concerns that counterclockwise winds and storm surges afterward could cause the levees at Lake Pontchartrain to be overrun.

"I don’t think any model can tell you with any confidence right now whether the levees will be topped or not but that is obviously a very, very grave concern," Mayfield told the briefing.

Other officials expressed concerns about the large number of New Orleans residents who had not evacuated.

"They’re not taking patients out of hospitals, taking prisoners out of prisons and they’re leaving hotels open in downtown New Orleans. So I’m very concerned about that," Brown said.

Despite the concerns, it ultimately took days for search and rescue teams to reach some hospitals and nursing homes.

Brown also told colleagues one of his top concerns was whether evacuees who went to the New Orleans Superdome—which became a symbol of the failed Katrina response—would be safe and have adequate medical care.

"The Superdome is about 12 feet below sea level…. I don’t know whether the roof is designed to stand, withstand a Category Five hurricane," he said.

Brown also wanted to know whether there were enough federal medical teams in place to treat evacuees and the dead in the Superdome.

"Not to be (missing) kind of gross here," Brown interjected, "but I’m concerned" about the medical and mortuary resources "and their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe."

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2008/01/the_year_ahead_can_democrats_g.html

"The American people didn’t elect Democrats in November because they suddenly took an ideological swing to the left. Voters were unhappy with what they saw as the Republican Party’s inability to get things done, whether it was dealing with Hurricane Katrina, gas prices or the Iraq War. So, they took a chance on the Democrats, and now the Democrats must produce."

So by that standard, are Democrats competent? Have they produced?

I know of a story about a little boy who led a group of other little boys to safety during Hurricane Katrina. What is the source (news source, etc.) that this story came from?

I am doing LD debate and it would be great if I could get this data.

Why aren’t our political leaders speaking out about this potential problem !

A blockade of the Strait of Hormuz could cause a hurricane Katrina in every major U.S. city and yet our so called political leaders aren’t talking about this potentially deadly problem.

i am absolutely sickened by these 2 ’singers.’ theyre all about white supremacy and nazism.

for hurricane katrina they made ‘white only’ care packages.

i wanna puke! can anyone else believe how disgusting some people can be?
im tired of incompetent a$$holes like ralph krapden

Recently I came upon an internet blog which suggested Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for New Orleans because of the sin committed in the city. I have also heard that Aids is punishment for homosexuality.

How do these Christians claim they know the mind of God, are they interpreting the bible or are they suggesting God has somehow spoken to them?

waldemaryam: I agree that we can’t know what others are thinking. Perhaps I should have asked what they “claim” (as a substitute for “believe”) to know the mind of God. These are not people who are quiet about their beliefs, they are outspoken and I was curious if they offer any proof or support for the claims.

With the anniversary of 2 of the most tragic events in the history of the United States(Hurricane Katrina, 9/11) how do you feel about our nations ability to handle crisis?

I work in the real estate industry and am curious if the homeowners who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina ever got reimbursed by their property insurance companies. Or, due to the enoromous cost, did the insurance companies default out of self preservation? It seems to me that those homeowners who thought their home equity was safe in their homes experienced the biggest financial loss.
