Who just 6 years ago were writing ’scholarly opinions’ that soon snowfall in the U.S. would be a ‘rare occurance’????

E-mails exchanged to tell collegues that if the data doesn’t fit the projections, then just delete the data…
If it’s to hot it’s global warming…
If it’s to cold it’s global warming…
If it doesn’t snow enough it’s global warming…
If it snows to much it’s global warming…
Every year predict massive hurricane season due to global warming…
When year passes quietly blame lack of activity on global warming…

But Al Gore’s bank account just gets bigger and bigger due to global warming…

Anyone else see a trend here?

1. Joe wants to see if it is true that hurricane induce labor in pregnant women. He collects data from several hospitals for births during the months of June-November (hurricane season). He compares this data with the dates that hurricanes came withing a 100 mile radius of his town. He graphs his results as the average number of births on hurricane days compared to the average number on non-hurricane days during the hurricane season months.

2. Josh wants to find out if higher temperatures cause mosquito larvae to develop more quickly. He sets up 6 tanks of mosquito larvae in the lab. Each tank has water of a different temperature ranging from 50-100 degrees Celsius. He graphs the number of adult mosquitoes in each tank after a 2 week period.

What does cruise ship do to prepare for bad weather? Hurricane season?

That summer was the strangest one of my life. I was ten years old and hurricane season was the meanest yet. I was living with mama and her mean boyfriend Billy in a rundown doublewide. He didn’t like me and would never let me pick what to watch on TV. I tried to keep to myself but in a trailer there ain’t too much room to hardly breathe! Thank goodness for ole’ Jim Turnig. I loved his dog Milk Dud! Funniest lil’ thing, couldn’t have weighed more than three pounds and he really looked like a caramel covered chocolate ball. Jim Turnig let me play with Milk Dud all the time. That lil’ dog was a rascal though and I would always hear Mr. Turnig yellin’ and hollerin,’ “Meeeeeelllllkkk Dud! Meeeeellllk Duuud!” He would never go far but we worried he would go and get himself eaten! Well anyways about that summer… hurricane Johnny was making waves and it looked like it was heading straight towards our trailer. We lived between San Leon and Bacliff Texas. I don’t think it had a name we just called it the alley. When I found out about Johnny, I begged mama to let us leave. I was only ten but I paid real close attention to the weather and the people on TV weren’t kidding about this one folks. Well mean old Billy said we’d be just fine, something about being on the clean side, which made no sense to me since the alley was filthy those days. It would get so hot that all the pork rind bags and beer cans melted right into the ground. So anyways, sure enough they ordered a mandatory evacuation. Now I had never written my address so how on earth was I supposed to know what our zip code was. When I asked mama what it was she told me to ask Billy and he just said, “One they ain’t shoutin’ on TV.” That meant for me to shut up. Since there was nothing I could do about nothing I went next door to visit Jim Turnig. Now he’s real smart so I figured he’d be leaving, but when I went outside he was just sitting in his lawn chair watching Milk Dud bite at flies.
“Mr. Turnig, ain’t you leavin?”
“Well I wish I could darlin’ but I don’t have a car.”
“Well I heard on TV that a bus can take you.” “
Oh I heard that, but they don’t allow pets. Now how do you suppose I could leave my little buddy here?” Jim said as Milk Dud began digging a hole.
“Well I reckon you cant sir.”
“Yup looks like I’ll be hunkerin’ down just like you.”
Mr. Turnig seemed calm but I sure was worried. It was one thing for a hurricane to come for me, I reckon I could outrun it, but Mr. Turnig was old, took him nearly an hour just to get out of his chair.
Over the next few days I bought as many supplies as I could afford.
One day there was a loud banging on the door. Billy opened it and Tommy Pickens stared right at him.
“Why aren’t y’all gone?”
“Stop yelling Tom. You know just as well as I do that this hurricane ain’t gonna do nothing but give us some much deserved rain.”
“You’re crazy!”
Billy closed the door right in his face.
There was another knock the next morning. This time it was the sheriff.
“Awe geez Billy what you done this time?” “
Shut up woman I ain’t done nothing.”
Frightened, I opened the door. “
Well hello there Suzie. Can I speak to your mama or Billy?”
“Hello sheriff, what’s the problem,” asked mama.
“Johnny ain’t lookin’ too good. Mike Johnson has opened his liquor store for refuge. It is the safest building around. I suggest you collect a small bundle of possessions and any food you have.”
“Billy!” my mama wailed.
“Now calm down Mary Ann! We’ll do as the sheriff says everything will be fine.”
“Stay safe folks get over there before supper.”
I rushed to my room to gather my favorite things. I already had the food, first aid flashlights and everything else ready. Billy looked annoyed and my mama looked terrified. We don’t have much that’s worth anything so it didn’t take long. Around 5:00 we headed across the street to the liquor store. I saw Mr. Turnig with a bag under one arm and Milk Dud under the other. Inside it was a different world. The only thing in it was tables of food, cots and children crying. We found a corner to set up in and Mr. Turnig stayed close. I would’ve shared my supplies but people were being pigs…I knew to save my stuff. The effects of Johnny started rolling in that night. I heard sounds I had never heard before. In the middle of the night there was a horrible bang and the side of the building ripped off and flew off towards the bay. People were screaming but over all that noise I heard the familiar “Meeeeeellllk Duuuuud!” I rushed to Mr. Turnig.
“Suzie have you seen Milk Dud?”
“No sir, where did he go?”
“I don’t know, during storms he never leaves my side.”
I looked outside… I could see the hurricane! That eye looked so evil you’d swear it was the devil itself. Then I saw a small chocolate and caramel ball rolling straight towards Johnny. I ran to him, but before I got two feet someone grabbed my shoulders. I turned around and Billy held me close. Things got quiet and we heard “ho

Being that tomorrow (June 1) is the start of 2011’s Hurricane Season, what kind of companies (home builders, raw material companies - steel, lumber, whatever) would stand to benefit from the upcoming reconstruction that is likely to come (regardless of the actual magnitude of the hurricanes)? Specifically, what companies (just some examples) would benefit? I was thinking maybe Caterpillar, for example?
Also, do you believe that with a weaker dollar that these companies - Cat and JoyGlobal, for example - would stand to benefit even more, however, in terms of international sales?

These guys came and tore down my 2 sheds damaged last hurricane season. They used an excavator to know them down and broke a mirror that was in there and the 3 window, I have broken glass all over the demolition site. What can I do? Try to use a shop vac? Any advice please.

The Army Corps of Engineers, rushing to meet President bush’s promise to protect New Orleans by the start of the 2006 hurricane season, installed defective flood-control pumps last year despite warnings from its own expert that the equipment would fail during a storm, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The drainage-canal pumps were custom-designed and built under a .6 million contract awarded after competitive bidding to Moving Water Industries Corp. of Deerfield Beach, Fla. It was founded in 1926 and supplies flood-control and irrigation pumps all over the world.

MWI is owned by J. David Eller and his sons. Eller was once a business partner of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in a venture called Bush-El that marketed MWI pumps. And Eller has donated about 8,000 to politicians, the vast majority of it to the Republican Party, since 1996, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Recently the Earth’s climate has been changing significantly as far as weather patterns and season lengths go, so I wanna know when is the worst time to take a cruise out of florida and into the bahamas during hurricane season. Is hurricane season lasting longer down there now than it did 10yrs ago? What have the weather patterns been like during this time of year since 2009.

Why does hurricane season run through midsummer and fall but ends in the winter?

I am considering staying at the Barceló Maya Colonial and Tropical Beach on the Riviera Maya (an all inclusive resort), but my window of time to travel is from September 1st till October 31st.

My questions are:

1. This is a fairly new resort and I am having trouble finding any reviews by other people who have stayed there. Has anyone been there? Is it nice and worth the money? If you haven’t been there, do you know of any really good review websites?

2. Is the time frame that is available (September and October) hurricane season? What kind of weather can I expect from this area of the world at this time of year?

during hurricane season, you will get arrested for charging more than market value for supplies(i.e. plywood, batteries…etc) but during the week or so surrounding Valentine’s day…flower shops raise prices on roses by 5x? Wal-mart can’t guage you when you want to buy the latest"got to have it" toy at christmas…

I’ve noticed Gulf water temps are cooler now than they usually are this time of year. Will this have any affect the upcoming hurricane season? Particularly with intensity.
