Please read the following article from the Houston Chronicle:

If you live in Houston and you have even an ounce of common sense, then you should know that every year at around this time, you’re gonna get threatened by hurricanes. And you’re gonna need the usual non-perishable foods (e.g. soups, cereals, peanut butter, granola bars, etc.,) and other vital supplies like bottled water, flashlights, batteries and generators.

So why not go shopping for these items and store them away a month or so before hurricane season? If hurricane season passes without incident and the emergency kit goes unused, then you can use the food items before they spoil and then simply re-stock those items the following summer. What is so hard about this???

Why do people have to act like such boneheads in this situation? I realize that Houston is home to NASA, but it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you wait until the last minute to buy these things, the shelves might be bare by the time you arrive at the store.

So now, what’s going to invevitably happen is people are going to crowd the local Home Depots and start fighting with other customers over the last generator in stock. Wouldn’t it have been a good idea to have gone to Home Depot two months ago and bought a generator then, knowing that you’d be fighting like a rabid dog come hurricane season??? Duhhhhhhhhhhhhh……

Good grief, you Houstonians.

I’m looking to go to either Cancun, or Cozumel. How often are these areas effected during hurricane season? How are hurricanes handled in Mexico? Do the resorts do a good job evacuating or are you on your own? This is probably why vacations are pretty cheap during this time, isn’t it?

We plans for a vacation to Orlando starting Aug 23 till Sep 6. What’s the weather there? People says it is the hurricane season with lots of rain. So, I want to know and get better prepared. Please advise. Thanks.

I am going to Jamaica at the end of Sept. (I know, I know, hurricane season) and am wondering if anyone has an idea of what the weather will be like given the current weather data.

I originally heard that this year would have a bad hurricane season for the Atlantic. However, there have been only two storms so far? Is this season still predicted to be bad?

I’m planning a vacation for my mom and I. We’re going to Jamaica the first week of September 2009. Is this too risky a move, in reference to hurricane season? My mom’s a little nervous about getting stuck on the island with a hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center is expecting a worse-than-usual hurricane season for the East coast of America. What about Hawaii?

7-17-07…In a few weeks it’s going to really hot on the east coast, water tempretures will be more favorable for you to test your sattlelite.Yr human subjects all have failed in the attempt at germ warfare. This is one of the key factors along wtih the implant that creates the gas & the cyclonic turbulence in ones body for you to get yr sattelites tracking data. Depending on the season you can envolk absolute terror on those whom are caught in it.As of yet hurricane season hasn’t taken off the way you’ve expected hum…. I wonder why. There is no doubt in my mind that you will find someone else to implant. The public had better hope that you are stopped before it’s too late. The next person may not be as imformative nor as kind as i am,willing to risk expossing your top secret. To me it seems as if yr trying to carry out bible prophecy It’s no wonder this county is hated and under attack. Man,god of all technilogical things….A sign of the times.

I am getting married next October I would like to go to the Carribbean for our honeymoon but everyone is telling me that it would be a bad idea because of hurricane season. Has anyboby gone there that time of year? Is it bad? Any suggestions?

I live in Florida, and just 2 years ago, we had 4 hurricanes hit my state within 5 weeks. The National Hurricane Center actually ran out names to call the storms, and so moved to the Greek alphabet. Now in 2006, we've only had one weak storm hit us, and the hurricanes are few and weak. How does the EL Nino Effect cause this very slow hurricane season as compared to the very recently active ones?

I am wondering when the annual hurricane season begins and ends in Florida especially in Miami.

I'm going to be moving soon and I've never been to Florida before. I was wondering what is the hurricane season like if you are inland in the panhandle? Is it less dangerous than being closer to the coast? All my life I've lived in tornado alley so hurricanes are really new to me. Any info would be appreciated.

How was the 2005 hurricane season different from all the other hurricane seasons?

I know it sounds silly to ask. But just how dangerous IS a Hurricane anyway? This is my first hurricane season in south Texas, and TS(Hurricane Dolly by Tuesday morning) Dolly is headed straight for Brownsville–which isn't THAT far from me.

How dangerous is this going to be?

(and yes, I'm stocked with important supplies, water, batteries for radio, canned food, etc…)
Thank you for all your responses. I now have to decide between the 2 of the best responses though.

We are in the middle of the hurricane season, and the oil price just went up to at the highest level for a short time.
How does hurricane season effect oil price?
Does it has to be a major hurricane to spike up the oil price? Can a tropical storm, or small hurricane effect the oil price? If so, how?

thanks.

Please be specific - don't just say "worse" - explain whether that means more hurricanes, more severe hurricanes, a longer hurricane season, all of the above….. And don't just say "better" - explain whether that means fewer hurricanes, fewer storms, weaker storms, fewer storms hitting land, etc….

Thank you

We are thinking of travelling to Puerto Rico this Fall. How is October? Is November better or worse? Is hurricane season a significant risk?
Websites seems to say that November is still hurricane season, but biggest risk is in August, September and October. Anyone have any experience with this?

Say you have a houseboat in a coastal Florida marina. What do you do with it during hurricane season?

Certain individuals have made a big deal about the fact that according to Ryan Maue (PhD student) at Florida State, in 2008 the northern hemisphere experienced low tropical cyclone activity.

However, as Maue also notes, the North Atlantic experienced an above-average hurricane season.

http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/~maue/tropical/

According to Dr. Jeffrey Masters (Meteorologist), 2008 was the only hurricane season on record in the Atlantic that has featured major hurricanes in five separate months. Hurricane Paloma is now the second strongest November hurricane on record in the Atlantic.

So the northern hemisphere had an a weak hurricane season, but the north Atlantic had an abnormally strong season? Can anyone make sense of this?

We got hit by hurricane Rita almost 2 years ago and we still have a blue tarp on our roof. We are renting and the owner of the house didn't have insurance on the house so we stll have a blue tarp covering it. I'm worried about this years hurricane season. I can't afford to move and I'm trying my best to safe up to get it fixed but in the meantime, how do I keep my house safe? No jokes please. I'm still trying to get mold spores out of the house.
Sorry to hear about all of that. FEMA said we had significant damage but said they couldn't help us because I forgot to include my middle name when I signed my name during the inspection of my house. They caontacted me 8 months after the hurricane, after is started raining in our house and leaks were everywhere and then they mentioned they could have helped us but I left out my middle name on my signature. I had to show proof who I was about 3 times and finally I got it straight but then I recieved a letter in the mail from FEMA saying I missed the deadline and they couldn't help us fix the roof. So now I am saving up to have it fixed.

I am planning to go to Universal Studios Orlando in Florida. But there is one problem. It is Hurricane Season! Should I go???

I don't know when the hurricane season happens.

Thanks everyone!

There is a hurricane "season" after all! A law should be made that non season months we are not charged and they cannot raise the payment for the hurricane season months once the other non hurricane season months are dropped.

I want to go on an all inclusive beach vacation, either mexico or carribean in late october/early novemeber. The travel agent doesnt suggest going between now and the end of novemeber due to hurricane season. This is the only time I can go though. Do I need to be careful my trip may be ruined? Is there a place that is less likely to be hit then others?? Any suggestions?
