I have a mother dove with 2 baby birds living in a nest atop my hurricane shutters. 1 pretty large chick is down on the ground and the mom and other chick are up and looking around. The chick seems lost and confused. Should I put on gloves and put the chick back up in the nest or leave it alone?
Are there any other inspections I should have to help lower the rate? Just had a new roof last hurricane in 2005. Have hurricane shutters for the house.
I live in Louisiana, heart of hurricane weather and the season has just begun, so I want to purchase some hurricane shutters, so i will not have to go the agony of getting wood boards, then having someone put them up etc. I have double paned windows, which are expensive to replace, I called home depot, but the guy told me he talk to me about "their home program, which sounds like opening a credit account(which I can not do) and paying on it monthly. I just want shutters that can be closed during bad weather myself, and that does not cost into the thousands. I have only six small 4 small windows and 2 larger ones on the home. Thanks guys.
Hello, I hope you can help me out. I live in Miami, FL and we are about to be hit by a hurricane early next week. During a tropical storm one month ago a window in my house was shattered and it is still broken. It is one of two windows in my house without hurricane shutters. Are there any public resources out there that will help me get some plywood? I am running on two meals a day as it is and cannot afford the + per sheet it is going to cost at a hardware store. Is there anything I can do? Thank you
…miles from home, and now…
..a hurricane warning has been issued for where we live!
I am out of town in a tiny rental car, I forgot to lower ALL the hurricane shutters before we left last week (when we had the unfortunate incident in Luling when my daughter was driving the truck), I have to get 5 large dogs from the boarding kennel before the storm hits, find out what the psych hospital has planned, and then I have to get everyone back out of town in case the storm hits.
My question is, do you believe that things (good or bad) come in threes? If the answer is yes, please give examples from your own life.
Is there any hope for us that this trend will stop soon?
I’ve recently gotten a Nikon D3000 and now I want to venture into more professional photography. I would like to convert my garage into a collapsible photo studio of sorts, since…you know, two cars have to get in there. It’s a two car garage but there’s some stuff lining the walls like bookshelves and crates and hurricane shutters. How should I go about this in a relatively cost conscious way?

Hello
I am quite new with hurricanes as I am not floridian… and I have difficult hurricane shutters to install (not the nice accordeon ones).
I did not put the shutters so far since it seems that Fay is going on the North west… but should I do ?
It is raining quite a lot now and it is the night
Thanks for your answers!
I have a house that has hurricane shutters. It is typical South Florida concrete block (breeze block) construction.
The screws used to attach the shutters were not steel and were not sealed when put in so they are both rusting and leaking water to the inside of the wall. So not only am I getting mildew in my walls but I have a feeling the shutter will just rip off when we get a good bit of wind.
I want to remove each screw, put sealant in the hole and replace the screw with a steel one.
My questions are
1) If I use the same size steel screw can I just take out the rusty screw and replace it with steel or will the hole in the concrete block be too deteriorated to use a second time ?
2) If the head of a screw breaks off (some are really rusty !) how would I get it out of the wall ?
I should clarify that there were no anchors used. The screws appear to be straight into the block.

Who is this man?
I had an EXTREMELY strange dream last night, and when I woke up, a bunch of things happened.
These pictures were on my printer, and my family is out of town.
The dream was about this guy, at my window. Singing straight to my face as I was inside. It was in some other language. I always keep my window open when I sleep, just to throw that in there. The second part of the dream had me going out in my backyard, taking pictures of it because it was flooded. When I woke up, the hurricane shutters on my window were completely shut, I had three missed calls from a private number, and these five same pictures on my printer.
PLEASE HELP ME. it is so important… if you have ANY idea what could have happened.. let me know! I am VERY scared.
OK I’ve measured a large triangular window and am going to cover it with hurricane shutters, I know how long each piece needs to be in inches like 47.298, but how do I convert that .298 into a fraction I can read on a tape measure like 5/16?
to have my hurricane shutters installed ?
charlie, HD and lowes do not install those
austin, i won’t get out of bed for .00 an hour, lunch or not !!!
donna, I did not thumbs down you !
i think it was charlie

People that live in coastal areas answer this question.
Do you even have an escape or evacuation plan if a hurricane comes? Or a hurricane kit and hurricane shutters? Do you have a house built to withstand a hurricane? Please answer my questions.
Thanks!
It’s already August and still not so much as a tropical storm has made landfall. It’s almost as if Mother Earth is granting us immunity after Katrina.
But I mean, come on.. at least one category 1 to give me a few days off of work. And we just got new hurricane shutters.
What do you guys think?
How long did it take to get your hurricane shutters installed from the time of contract signing? Was the work satisfactory? Did you have to be persistent to move the project along?
Bought a house with existing shutters like this:

Can’t find a way to fasten the bottom. Has anyone seen this type?
Thank you,

I will be experiencing my first hurricane season as a homeowner and would like to know good storm/hurricane shutters to protect my windows. My home is built of stucco and I’m aware of potenetial hazards from drilling/nailing into stucco. Any suggestions?
I moved into a new concrete block and stucco house that has permanent anchors around the windows for bolting on the hurricane shutters (metal panels). Some of the screw-in anchors have come out. Can I plug the holes with cement and drill a new hole to reattach the anchors? Or is there a better fix? What type of cement or substance should I use to plug the holes?
I'm thinking about getting hurricane shutters for my house in Palm Beach county and want to know what kind to get and if anyone knows of a company with a good reputation to do the install.
I recently purchased a condo in Miami (Kendall, no where near the beach). When first looking at the apartment I asked about hurricane shutters and received strange looks from the owner, the real estate agent and the association representative. All told me that the association allowed them, but that I had no need for any since I had a balcony (12 ft long by 4 ft deep) and was on the second floor (building is four stories tall).
This doesn't make any sense to me. What do balconies and being on the second floor have to do with things hitting my sliding glass doors or windows? I thought the wind got worse the higher up you went.
Do I need hurricane shutters or not? If not, could you explain why?
Thanks!
What would be the best and cost effective hurricane shutters to buy for a second floor condo sliding glass doors that i could shut from the inside( no outside access, only enclosed screen porch) Thank you.
We are shutting up our home in FL and putting on hurricane shutters. What can we put between the window and shutter to keep out the hornets and yellow jackets.
