Hey, my boyfriend and I are going to Disney World ((Orlando, Florida)) in mid October. Is that a bad idea? Like will there be any hurricanes?

This is a sample of my Hurricane Wilma storm chase video. The footage was taken during the peak of the storm on the Southwest Florida coast in Belle Meade, near Marco Island. Peak winds occur after the lull, associated with the passage of the storm’s eye, and are near 100mph with gusts to 120mph.

present an argument against the theory of manmade global warming.

It appears that many skeptics and deniers are quite convinced that their assertions are valid. This led me to wonder why they don’t validate their claims with links to sources or other citations.

So my question to skeptics is this – can you provide the evidence to back up the claims that are often used? Links to credible websites will be fine.

Given that skeptics like to be thought of as rational, objective and factual, then I expect there will be no problem at all in substantiating all of the following.

• The current warming is caused by natural cycles

• Global warming has ended and the Earth has been cooling for X number of years

• Scientists have admitted that they invented global warming, fabricated the evidence etc

• Global warming has not caused any change in the weather – droughts, floods, hurricanes etc

• Global warming is caused by the urban heat island effect, surface stations are incorrectly sited etc

• Scientists have deleted the raw data, the work of scientists can’t be verified

• It’s warmed faster in the past

• The number of glaciers is growing, glaciers are expanding etc

• Volcanoes emit more CO2 then humans do

• All the computer models in the past have been wrong

• The other planets are warming therefore it’s the Sun

i am planning to go to North Port, Florida (around Tampa) during mid-august. I am concerned about hurricanes though. if the hurricane was to come to the right of florida, around the miami side, would tampa be safe? and is there even a major threat in mid august near tampa? thanks

I live near the ocean and my insurance company wants me to have "Pre-drilled" plywood for protection against hurricanes. has anyone done this before in CT?

ok…
You all know of the butterfly effect, right? No?
Well, it’s a theory that every little thing, including the beat of a butterfly’s wings, contributes to every weather pattern around the world, such as hurricanes and rainstorms.

Here’s my plan:

1: Gather the following: About 1 million Grow-Your-Own-Butterfly Kits, a cage large enough to hold said kits, a bomb shelter and a Large Box of Lollypops.

2: Raise the butterflies inside the gaint cage.

3: Once all the butterflies reach maturity, open up the cage and release all the butterflies.

4: Go inside bomb shelter as hurricanes all over the world destroy everything.

5: Arise from the shattered remains of the earth and proclaim myself as it’s new leader.

6: Find the starving, half-dead survivors of earth and tell them if they make me their leader I will give them a lifetime supply of Lollypops. Who could pass up those delicious taste of those yummy Lollypops?
Well that’s it!

What do u think ???

This is film taken in and around the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area during and after the arrival of Hurricane Betsy which struck South Florida on September 8th 1965 as a cat.-3 storm. This raw footage was shot by TV Station WTVJ channel-4 in Miami.

How do you take masking tape off of the outside of my windows? From hurricanes.

I’m possibly planning a cruise for the middle/end of the year next year. Was wondering if anyone knew if they predicted a good or bad year for hurricanes next year or when they will be. When I say the middle/end of the year talking the months between Aug. - Oct.

We will probably be leaving from FL if we do take a cruise.

Hurricane Ivan was a classic, long-lived Cape Verde hurricane that reached Category 5 strength three times during its lifespan. Ivan caused tremendous damage as it crossed Grenada, the Cayman Islands and made landfall near the Alabama/Florida border. Maximum sustained winds at landfall in the US are estimated at 120mph with gusts to 140mph, Category Three intensity. At landfall, the storm’s minimum central pressure was 946mb (27.94in). This video also includes some behind-the-scenes footage from the National Hurricane Center including clips of my good friends and hurricane forecasters, Lixion Avila, Jack Beven, Max Mayfield (the center’s director at that time)… as well as another good friend, Monroe County ex-Civil Defense Director Billy Wagner. Also in the background is Florida Governor, Charlie Crist.

Look i supported the Iraq war, and i know you probably don’t okay. No need to turn your answer into an anti-war speech, how about giving that a rest for the day.
Now, it really annoys me when people start linking current high oil prices to the war in Iraq, this is certanly not what they use to do, i think it’s becuase General Petreaus has done such a good job in Iraq, then the only current thing they can find is an unrelated topic such as high oil prices and say its all because of oil. It is NOT!
Why are oil prices high? How about asking the experts on the stock market! They say its about the growth of China/India, hurricanes stopping production, poorly forcasted supplies for current demand, and a hole list that goes beyond the 1000 letter limit. They never say Iraq.
So, stop saying that high oil prices are the cause of the Iraq war! And how come you’ve only claimed this recently? High oil prices have happened over the past year, NOT since weve been in Iraq! FACT!

6th line its all because of iraq! (not oil which accidently got mixed up in that sentence)

08/29/2005 Raw B-Roll footage shot during the escape from New Orleans, LA as the city begins to flood from Hurricane Katrina as the levees failed. Footage shot on the western side of the eye wall as New Orleans, LA is still being slammed by the hurricane force winds. POV Footage with flying debris as the cameraman navigates through the flooding to try and get out of the city before being trapped by the rising flood waters. Footage from St. Bernard Avenue and North Claiborne Avenue to Canal Street, then over to Tulane Avenue and Broad Street. Then the drive continues at Earhart Blvd and Washington Ave as the Washington Avenue Canal spills over its banks. Video ends at the South Carrollton Avenue entrance to Interstate 10.

I live in Southern California. I just watched a video of a geologist warning of a possible major quake along the pacific coast. I am so not alarmist, and I’ve lived my life near communities facing hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and potential nuclear threats. I have never ran out and bought supplies to prepare as silly as that sounds. I don’t maintain a 6 month supply of food and supplies like some friends I know.

Other than lots of water and first aid supplies, can you offer some ideas on food I should buy for a family of 3 adults. How much water and food do I need. I have tons of pantry space, empty closets, room in the garage, even room in my car. Should I store some propane for my camping stove? What about the propane tank in my outdoor BBQ?

I need to get with the program and take some steps…All of your suggestions will be appreciated–even the snarky ones ;-)

I’m just curious it’s raining really hard with high winds in Sacramento right now. I was just thinking about the past hurricanes in "Florida". Including the tsuami earthquake in Japan.I haven’t heard any recent bad hurricanes in the "sunshine state" this year, but remember in the past "katrina" , "Wilma", "Ivan" etc. Can the hurricane also hit "Amway center" & "American Airlines Arena"?
BQ: Why is mother nature so cruel?

Based on historical hurricanes and the cost of gas prices fluctuating, I was noticing that gas prices had never gone up or gas supplies so diminished as they have been these last 4yrs. I feel that it is a way to "gouge" the consumers in this country by the big oil companies to make a bigger profit in this unstable economy. Also, the big ploy to voters is the push for more off shore drilling. We actually drill off shores in hundreds if not thousands of places just off our coasts now. I have a friend that works on one in the gulf and he has said that even though we pull it from American waters it is shipped on boats not of American owned companies. We even have stock piles of oil already refined that can be used to lower prices and extend our supplies in this unstable economy that we are not using. In the past 50 yrs we never saw a huge gas price surge from any hurricanes. Most of them have been due to politics, but never weather related. Does anyone else feel this is a ploy for us to make us pay the higher prices to make their bottom line look good to investors in this economy more than it is caused by "weather"? You can look at the hurricane tracks for the past 50 yrs and recall the economy at that time.

What have you heard or what is your theory?

to me this is the way nature works. we complain about all the horriblness in the world, but why can’t it just be the way its ssupposed to be? there is a reason why we came to the thought of making a nuclear bomb or a car or have a supply of oil underground, etc… this is part of the evolution of humans. volcanos explode and cause havoc, the ocean floods the earth, hurricanes, etc. thats nature. and wee’re part of it. humans are simply like a volcano. we may be destroying the planet here over time, but seems to me the way its supposed to go. otherwise,it would take another direction, right?

In the fall of 2004 the price of tomatoes dramatically increased. Which of the following could have caused this change?

A. Hurricanes during the late summer damaged the Florida crop, shifting supply left.
B. A reduction in tariffs of tomatoes from Central American, shifting supply right.
C. A news report stating that a pesticide used on tomatoes might cause cancer, shifting the demand to the right.
D. Advertising for catsup increased demand for catsup, shifting the demand curve to the left.

I am starting to get nervous, every one keeps telling me that there will he hurricanes going on when I go on my honeymoon on 8-10-08. So.. I’m worried. Do you think we will be ok? BTW.. we are going to the Dominican Republic. Thank you for your help!!! :)

My brain is about to explode over stats. I’m asking very nicely for help on these problems. And if you have the time; please explain how to come to the answers.
