My question is would you vote for this????

(In order to get best answer you actually have to vote for this solution)

Joe Bastardi from accuweather keeps hyping away and still 18-21 storms this year. NHC has some sense and took their numbers down to 14-20 instead of 14 to 23 named storms. Here we are almost to september and we’ve only had 5 storms, (1 hurricane, 2 storms and 2 depressions). What are we going to see for the rest of the season. I imagine JB is very wrong even though you never know.
and a record quiet August as far as storms and hurricanes.

Hello I need to know when is the hurricane season in Florida. Cause in july or maybe in june I will go to Disney.
So, When is the hurricane season there? In July or June there are chances that a hurricane arrives?
Orlando has had troubles related to hurricanes before?
I love the U S A, I love it and visiting it would be amazing (without a hurricane of course).
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING!

Temperatures were almost flat between 2000 - 2010
The gloom and doom predictions are just not coming true
Hurricanes are not becoming worse and more powerful as predicted
There are no more floods or droughts than we had before

However 300+ year old old cold weather records are being broken all over ASIA, Europe, and America

2010 was not as hot as 1998 in all the data sets, next year will be colder will we have to wait another 12 years before we have another warm year?

When will the time come to cut green budget and save some tax?
EDIT Raj:

In the UK it was the coldest December ever, since records began in 1910, with a mean temperature of -1°C. It smashed the previous record of 0.1°C in December 1981.

December 2010 has the lowest CET, -0.7 °C,[40] since a CET of -1.1 °C was recorded for February 1986. December 2010 can also be confirmed to be the coldest December for 120 years, since a monthly CET of -0.8 °C was recorded for December 1890 and the second coldest December since records began in 1659.

Probably the most notable record of the winter so far is the new all time record low for Northern Ireland, of -18.7 °C recorded on the 23rd of December at Castlederg, County Tyrone. In addition, all of these sites recorded their all time record lows since recording began, this winter

Here is some footage of waves crashing ashore at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. These waves were generated by long period swells from Hurricane Earl, a Category Four Hurricane well to the south at the time.

Here is additional footage of the wave action from Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The waves were being generated by swells from Hurricane Earl, which at one point on Thursday morning, had winds of 145 mph, and a minimum central pressure of 932 millibars. Earl has since weakened to a Category Two Hurricane as it moves up the Eastern Seaboard.

Here is some more footage of the wave action from Sandy Hook, New Jersey. This is the third and final installment of the video taken. The waves were being generated by swells from Hurricane Earl, which at one point on Thursday morning, had winds of 145 mph, and a minimum central pressure of 932 millibars. Earl has since weakened to a Category Two Hurricane as it moves up the Eastern Seaboard.

Various hurricanes I have filmed since 1984. 2 minutes of 19.

I live on base at Hurlburt Field (housing, not dorms). Due to the area there’s a general threat of hurricanes. Does anyone know if you’re allowed to put up plywood window covers during a storm when you’re living on a military base? Or is it not allowed?

Thanks in advance!

I am considering moving to Miami, but I heard there are alot of hurricanes. What is the place in Miami and surrounding areas to live where there is not a lot of damage after bad weather? What other bad weather do you get? Are these areas safe as far as crime also?

We have lived in Michigan all of our lives, and are looking to make an out of state move. We have 3 kids - 2, 7 & 14, and just can’t take the 6 month long, nothing to do winters anymore! I just finished my associates degree and am looking to obtain my BS after the move. Price range for housing would be about 200K. We don’t want to live in a big city, but not too far from one, and preferably not too far from the water (but not too close either as we don’t want to be dodging hurricanes on a regular basis). My husband is favoring FL (Orlando suburbs) right now and me, TX (Houston area). We took a trip to Savannah GA recently and loved the city (wouldn’t want to live in Savannah tho maybe close by) We have been looking on city-data.com and have gotten lots of good info that way. Are there any other good forums? Please help us find our perfect home, we are very anxious, and overwhelmed in our search.

I have read 21 answers with interest and make the following observations:

1. ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ was rebuffed almost in its entirety by Dr Stephen Hayward’s lecture series.
2. There is no proof that global warming (gw) causes changes in weather patterns (hurricanes etc). We cannot predict the weather more than a week in advance.
3. Extinction - 99% of species going extinct are insects.
4. Definition of GW - techy but wrong. First and foremost, GW is a theory.
5. Disease - the Ebola and Hanta viruses were wrongly attributed to GW. This is hyped rubbish.
6. The Arctic is shrinking but the Antartic is growing. We have more ice now than 100 years ago. (Hence the 1970’s ice age panic).
7. Of the 21 answers, there is a 50-50 split of opinion for or against GW.

I conclude there is no data to show CO2 rises in our atmosphere cause anything untoward. I believe GW is a fear tactic used by Western governments to keep the population in line. Somebody convince me otherwise!

I mean, obviously, the flooded houses and destruction is upsetting, but don’t you think the actual hurricanes are just plain awesome to witness?

My mom thinks I’m crazy, but I think it’s an adrenaline rush. After Hurricane Katrina, we had two months of no electricity, and I still thought it was fun to see the winds and rain.

Maybe I’m a wacko, but I’m totally ready for hurricane season. :)

Will it be the sity that gets hit by more hurricanes or the worst hurricane, you know since they restored hope in the big sleazy

I’m having trouble finding answers for these…any help would be wonderful!!

12.) What feature associated with hurricanes causes the greatest destruction to coastal regions?

13.) Why is the right-hand side of a hurricane (relative to its direction of movement) the most dangerous?

15.) What are hurricane watches and warnings?

17.) What is the highest hurricane category on the Saffir-Simpson scale? How frequently do hurricanes of that magnitude occur?

1. What factors tend to weaken a hurricane?
2. Would a hurricane weaken more quickly over warm land or cool water? EXPLAIN. (this is a thinking question)
3. In a tropical system, what speed must the wind attain (in mph) in order to be classified as a hurricane?
4. What is responsible for the development of a storm surge?

I’m going on one in 3 weeks thru the western carribean stopping at grand cayman islands, belize, cozumel and others. What happens if hurricanes are forcasted and on there way thru where the ship is on in the ocean or if it’s going thru one of the ports we are supposed to stop at? Any experienced cruise travelers, can you please tell me if you’ve faced this before?

Global Warming is highly debated, although it is obvious that climates are changing. The debate however is the cause of this climatic shift. Is it due to the event known as Global Warming or is it a purely natural phenomena? Generally, Global Warming is defined as the concept that mankind is influencing a rapid increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, especially carbon dioxide. The theory is the phenomena known as Global warming will melt the ice caps and be the cause of more rapid and more extreme weather and natural disasters.

From what data I have seen, Carbon Dioxide is up approximately 1% in the past century; Temperature is up by approximately 1 degree Fahrenheit and natural disasters remain an average constant.

Personal experience, however, is proving to show more mild winters, cooler summers and generally mild storms. True, there were hurricanes and tsunamis in the years passed, but they were mere anomalies of normal storms taking a slightly different path.
Climate does seem to be shifting indeed, however, there were Ice Ages in the past following massive Heat Waves according to predictions. Seems to me, it may just be part of a natural cycle of Earth. That’s not to say we shouldn’t try to limit our destruction of balance, but there’s no reason to believe we’ve completely destroyed climates as well.
I forgot to also mention the credibility of the data of the past century or before is also arguable. The country believed to have the most reliable data is the US, however, readings were often done by simple mercury thermometers before the age of electronics.

What areas of Florida are considered safest for residents with respect to being relatively free of hurricanes? Someone mentioned Tallahassee as being a good place to live. What are your opinions with respect to a good place for families in terms of safety and cost of living but unlikely to have to board up windows and drive north due to storms.
