hurricanes and galaxy have centers, galaxes with black holes and hurricanes with eyes, they both effect space and time the same way just ones smallar then the other. this leads me to think that black holes are formed the same and the condition in them are the same. I was just woundering what others might think about this thanks =)

I’m an hurricane & weather freak i love the weather and i love to track hurricanes, i always be on youtube searching for footages of hurrricanes making landfall. I also need to know the Change in equilibrium.

Thanks for anyone’s help.

I need to test to see whether there has been a change in the frequency of hurricanes between 1960-1990 and 1991 - 2008. I have been given a single data set divided into the two groupings and have been given figures for the number of hurricanes per year. What test to I use to check if there has been a change in frequency??

How do scientists track movements of hurricanes and predict the movements?!?

These townhomes/condos provide washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove…and for the most part these appliances are brand new. These Townhomes/units are built with concrete blocks for the safety of hurricanes. What are some things to consider when before making the decision to rent out a townhome or a condo? Any Advice?
For the most part these townhomes/condos are fairly new..one being built in 2004/2005, and the other was just finished being built in 2006

Do you think that its weird that i want hurricane Dean to hit miami? My reasons are that hopefully it will delay the start of school. And it gives people an opportunity to repair aging homes and buildings. I also like preparing for the hurricane by going out and buying supplies I know that houses in miami wont fall apart because most are up to code and we dont do that plywood stuff that is done upstate we build with concrete and cement……do any of you "yahoo answer’s" get excitment out of hurricanes..?
Hurricane andrew destroyed whatever falling apart homes and poorly built houses…the last hurricane New orleans got was 50 years earlier…no offense but here miami alot of people take precautions and there are shelters in every corner…in even hurricane andrew there was not many fatalities..
thank u angelluv my heart dropped when he said that it would not hit…hehe at least there is hope…no school!lol

I am relocating to the central florida area very soon, i was just wondering what hurricanes are like, what to expect, how to prepare, and what to do, and any other information, best answer gets 10 points, and also, how long is the power out for? is it worth buying a generator?

This was taken hours prior to Hurricane Ike making landfall on the Texas coast.

I have lived in Nebraska all of my life & want to move to Florida b/c i hate it here! I am a single, 25 yr. old female who wants to live somewhere that’s always warm & that has more diversity. I have a Spanish/Sociology degree (currently am a Spanish Translator) & would love to live somewhere where I could utilize my Spanish skills more. My parents are concerned about my safety, the hurricanes and the high cost of living. Where would be the best place for me to move considering my situation?

The excuses are as bad as Bushes reasons to go to war in Iraq. First it’s the Hurricanes in the Gulf, the war, supply and demand, King Faad has a run in his nylons and now it’s going up due to the tensions in Iran. Yada Yada Yada! It is all fraud and greed. They are stepping on their own toes because we have our own oil, we also have alternative energy technology. Now all we have to do is get rid of OIL PRESIDENT.

i’m doing a study on the factors that make a specific community affected by hurricanes.in the section of analysis and interpretation i need to incorporate graphs and maps.i’m using primary data from interviews to make graphs.what are some graphs i could make??

I know Hurricanes are bad , but seriously it’s fun watching them, but would not prefer a category 4 or 5 , but a 3 would be fun watching.

According to officials, this year’s hurricane season will be "less chaotic" but still "very busy".

They are predicting 17 nameded storms, including nine hurricanes, with a potential of five of them being "intense".

With hurricane season quickly approaching, what are your feelings on the kind of season we’re going to have?

Answers from people who were effected by any of last year’s hurricanes a plus…People from the midwest might want to sit this one out.

We live paycheck to paycheck. Made the mistake of moving to Florida. We got here a year before all the hurricanes started coming (we’ve been hit by 4 directly). Now housing is through the roof and even if we could get a place (we rent right now) the insurance co’s are running like rats on a sinking ship and the ones that are staying are raising their rates 50 - 99% (no joke). We want to move to Colorado but have no extra money. There’s really no expenses to cut to save, except to stop eatting. Last year we lost 00 because of lost food, ice, batteries and other emergency supplies thanks to the hurricanes. It’s like a trap, we can’t afford to live here and can’t afford to get out! Open to suggestions. Thanks.

I want to learn how many times each county of Florida was affected by hurricanes in history. Any other weather data of Florida classified by county will hep. Thank you.

Is it lower demand because of the seasons? Is it because of no hurricanes that affected the supply chain to cause a surplus of petroleum.

Hello,

For the science fair, i want to simulate hurricanes in Java using data calculated before, calculate the damage done, lives lost, cost etc.I am also doing this for my IB computer science class. As part of IB standards we are allowed to have a "mentor" other than our teacher to help us. Is there anyone who would like to help me out with my project?

Thank You.

if hurricanes were in short supply and it needed to look like a natural disaster?…something really big that would cause a lot of deaths and panic the population…
maybe even something that put the regime in charge of medicine, food, water, utilities, industry, travel, trade, communications, media, fuel……..and such
and would cause an immediate need for a civilian army.
or even a one world government

how do meteorologist keep track of hurricanes?
what type of data they collect ana what type of instruments do they use?

My wife and I live in a manufactured home in California and are thinking of retiring to a manufactured home community somewhere less expensive. Central Florida sounds nice, but my wife is concerned about hurricanes damaging mobile homes. My view is that there are thousands of people living there in mobile homes, many for decades now, and only a tiny number get hit. Also, I believe that a new manufactured home is almost as hurricane resistant as a site-built home. Can anyone living in a manufactured home in Florida share any opinion?

i live on the southwest coast…which is basically where it’s projected to.
i’m used to super bad hurricanes. do you think fay will turn into at least a category 3 hurricane? or is too early to tell?

thanks!
i’ll keep watching the news/weather channel though :) yah usually they never turn out thaaat bad.
(except for katrina obviously)
the worst one for me was charley.

The following table lists the number of U.S. mainland hurricane strikes (from 1900 to 1996) for various intensities according to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale.
Intensity Number of Hurricanes
1 57
2 37
3 47
4 15
5 2

Construct a probability distribution of the data.
Find the mean, variance, and standard deviation fo the probability distribution.
Find the probability that a hurricane selected at random for further study has an intensity of at least 4.

I’m talking about NON-perishable goods like bottled water, canned soups, pasta, peanut butter, and supplies such as flashlights, batteries, candles and (most importantly) generators.

Please see the following article from Thursday’s Houston Chronicle: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/fron…

I don’t like doing this, but I’ve had to re-post this question a second time, because most of the answers I got before were so stupid, and here’s a sampling:

1. "Most people don’t have the credit or money to buy a generator,"
Well, they sure do have the money now, don’t they? There were 60 people lined up at a Home Depot in Houston for four hours on Wednesday. Had they gone to Home Depot a month ago, they could’ve not only avoided the long lines but also gotten a nice generator at a better price than what it’s selling for now.

Idiots.

2. "Part of it is because people live paycheck to paycheck."
Not enough money to buy a generator? What about the 60 people standing in line for four hours at Home Depot to pay 0 for a generator? Did all 60 of those boneheads win the lottery just last week, and that’s why they’re only buying a generator now? Less than 24 hours before a Category 4 hurricane is expected to make landfall? Great planning, people.

3. "Some people don’t have time to buy these things beforehand"
But they DO have time to stand in line for four hours at Home Depot, in the sweltering 90-degree Houston heat.

4. "People are defying the inevitable, and praying that it won’t happen."
I’m 30 years old, and I have life insurance. I certainly pray that I’ll make it through each day alive, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to prepare with the necessary contingencies in case something ever happens to me.

5. "The local media like to scare people"
If you live in Houston and you have even an ounce of common sense, then you should know that every year at around this time, you’re gonna get threatened by hurricanes. And you’re gonna need the usual non-perishable foods and supplies.

So why not go shopping for these items and store them away a month or so before hurricane season? If hurricane season passes without incident and the emergency kit goes unused, then you can use the food items before they spoil and then simply re-stock those items the following summer. What is so hard about this???

I would think that if anybody knew how to prepare for a hurricane, it would be the folks in South Texas. And I would think that Houstonians would have already learned their lesson after T.S. Allison seven years ago.
