Citgo will be allowed to pull 250,000 barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve because of its inability to secure crude in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.

Venezuela’s government-controlled Citgo Petroleum Corp. said Tuesday that supplies to its refinery in Lake Charles, La., were cut off when the Calcasieu Ship Channel closed.

The U.S. Energy Department granted the request late Tuesday, so far the only request for fuel from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The reserve is an emergency depot maintained by the Energy Department and can hold as much as 727 million barrels of oil in salt caverns along the Coast of Mexico.

I live in mexico and in the south and I want to know when it starts the hurricane season? why do always the hurricane season in the atlantic is longer than in pacific? because the raining season the last year finished in october and the atlantic continued all novemeber until 30th.

Hurricane Alex - Cat 2 June, 30th 2010. At landfull wind speed was 105 mph and the pressure was 947 mb. The hurricane was a category 2, but its pressure resembled a cat 3 almost a cat 4! This tropical storm was massive! It extended hundreds of miles, and sadly played a part in dispersing the oil more. This hurricane made landfall south of Texas into Mexico heading west on June 30th, 2010 at 9 pm CDT. This is a compilation video like a documentary to record Hurricane Alex in history with raw hurricane footage. Music is by Anderson Cale Check them out here: www.myspace.com A thanks to NOAA, Weather Channel, and Weather Underground for the graphical images.

When the price of oil rose above adter hurricane katrina it was due to oil refineries being knocked off-line in the guld of mexico. Those have long ago been repaired. Oil companies cannot say supply and demand justifies the cost and also claim a billion profit over the course of 3 months. Some profit, yes, but not billion. Bush enjoys wars and war mongering so why is he so slow to attack the big oil companies? Does any investor realize that the United States gets the bulk of their oil from Canada and not from Venezuela or Saudi Arabia or the Middle East? What is the cost coming from Canada? Nowhere near as much as from those 2 countries. When i shop for groceries or a new car I go for the best prices. Why don’t American investors continue to do the same by investing more in the Canadian oil? I think bush needs to re-align his war on terror and start attacking (financially or other) the big oil companies. What are your opinions and answers to resolve this crisis?

On September 22, 2003, hurricane Marty scored a direct hit on Marina de La Paz. Many boats were damaged beyond repair. The marina itself suffered major damage. One of the contributing causes was a blatant lack of preparation of the boats by there owners. This is a companion video to “Hurricane John at marina de La Paz”. Compare the two videos to see how preparation pays off!

Like I saw most of the "computer models" (i guess they are called) are bringing the storm over Mexico. Earlier today and yesterday they were bringing it over the Texas area, but now there aren’t any models I saw bringing it over Texas, so are we in the clear? What percentage do you think the storm has of making landfall over the Galveston/Houston area?

Thanks!

im askin because i want to go to huatlco, mexico and i want to know if i will be there during hurricane season(im going around june 18 to june 25)

Convince me! Because right now I am disinclined! I feel they(the rich of Mexico) use us to supply Welfare to their Poor! Why should I want to do that? I would rather and do help our poor…LET THEM START TAKING CARE OR THEIR OWN!!! Why should I?

Hurricane Jimena misses Cabo San Lucas and takes aim further up the Baja peninsula.

I’m looking to go to either Cancun, or Cozumel. How often are these areas effected during hurricane season? How are hurricanes handled in Mexico? Do the resorts do a good job evacuating or are you on your own? This is probably why vacations are pretty cheap during this time, isn’t it?

Storm Chaser Jason Boggs from KAMR-TV in Amarillo shared this video of the Clovis tornado that ripped through Clovis Friday night.

I want to go on an all inclusive beach vacation, either mexico or carribean in late october/early novemeber. The travel agent doesnt suggest going between now and the end of novemeber due to hurricane season. This is the only time I can go though. Do I need to be careful my trip may be ruined? Is there a place that is less likely to be hit then others?? Any suggestions?
