Footage of hurricane force winds from Katrina slamming into the downtown area across the street from Harrah’s Casino and Hotel on Canal Street. Raw footage with lots of high winds and debris flying through the air as the hurricane winds rip apart the city.

The Conservative, right-wing town of Joplin was enamored with Obama’s swift arrival on the ground to get his hands dirty, and his swift federal aid assistance while FEMA was immediately rescuing survivors.

Bush was hated when he was on the ground touring parts of New Orl… oh that’s right, Bush never was on the ground in New Orleans. He spent the first 2 days after Katrina hit on vacation at Crawford Ranch, then finally flew over New Orleans for a photo-op, then landed at the airport to say "you’re doing a heckuva job, Brownie" as thousands of New Orleans resident were stranded on their rooftops with no rescue operations in sight.

08/29/2005 Raw B-Roll footage shot during Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans, LA French Quarter. POV footage while driving in the French Quarter as the hurricane rips apart the area. Additional tripoded video at the intersection of Dauphine Street and Conti Street. POV footage continues around the French Quarter until the intersection of Conti Street and Royal Street where whiteout condition from the high winds were slamming into the area and blowing debris through the air.

Part B - 08/29/2005 B-Roll aftermath footage shot around the New Orleans, LA International Airport that shows the huge difference in the damage depending on the location around the metro area. On the south side of the airport along Airline Highway, there is no flooding, only damage from the high winds. While the south side of the airport was high and dry, the north side of the airport at Williams Blvd. and Veterans Blvd. was flooded with several feet of water and the water was still rising. Footage includes cars floating in the high water and people walking in the high water while large police truck drive through the flooded roadways.

I dream of living in New Orleans (and I will). I want my brother to live with me, but he says he doesn’t want to die in a hurricane. He thinks that every hurricane is like Katrina. I know that is not the truth, or the atlantic coast would be destroyed. I tell him that they’re not all like that, that they’re just like a thunderstorm that last for a few days. I’ve expierenced many tornadoes and severe storms, so I’m just guessing that’s what they’re like. If every single hurricane destroyed roofs, blew out windows and caused floods what would be the whole point of living there? So, people who have expierenced hurricane (not read about them), what is it like? Every single one that spawns each year can’t cause such terrible damage, or can it?

This week on Fox News, Eric Bolling Accused the President of " Chugging 40’s " In Ireland while he should be back at home visiting the damaged area’s where tornado’s hit. The Thing is though, last week President Obama did hit damaged area’s. On top of that, he set up FEMA In the area’s that were about to get hammered before going to Ireland. Yet he failed to mention that in his bash. Bush didn’t send Fema into New Orleans until 5 days after the Hurricane struck the coast. Also another failed fact to mention. But the thing is, even if Obama jumped on a Jet and flew back to the area’s that were damaged. Fox News would just accuse him of exploiting a Tragedy for a photo OPP. Like they do whenever he goes anywhere. Recently they called him visiting NY after the death of Osama Bin Laden " disgusting". I mean no matter what he does, their going to attack him for it so why does it matter?

So I just got finished reading this article on the front page of CNN.com about the hurricane Katrina victims. FEMA gave away some million in supplies meant for the victims to other states and various government organizations including the military. Why is it that America, the world’s most powerful nation (at least, for now), cant even take care of its own people??
There are still just under 100 people living in TENTS under a bridge in New Orleans. Two years later!!
I’m just absolutely outraged at FEMA’s blatent disreguard for the victims of hurricane Katrina.
So please, someone, explain.
Here’s the article:

Part A - B-Roll video of Hurricane Katrina as the storm starts to hit the Lake Pontchartrain Levee in Kenner, LA. The winds from Katrina start to pick up and the water starts to rise as the hurricane pushes the water to the south side of Lake Pontchartrain and the water starts to rise into a parking lot and over the lake wall. Footage shots include tree’s blowing in the wind and a stop sign being torn apart by the winds of the hurricane. Video also includes footage of the Kenner, LA police out patrolling in the middle of the storm to secure the area around the Pontchartrain Center.

When the big one hits, Who will come rushing with food shelter ? Can we depend on FEMA ? they did such a good job in New Orleans, as the new earthquake in Indonesia is unfolding, I see needed supplies leaving the US just as the hurricane season approaches

08/29/2005 Raw B-Roll footage shot during the escape from New Orleans, LA as the city begins to flood from Hurricane Katrina as the levees failed. Footage shot on the western side of the eye wall as New Orleans, LA is still being slammed by the hurricane force winds. POV Footage with flying debris as the cameraman navigates through the flooding to try and get out of the city before being trapped by the rising flood waters. Footage from St. Bernard Avenue and North Claiborne Avenue to Canal Street, then over to Tulane Avenue and Broad Street. Then the drive continues at Earhart Blvd and Washington Ave as the Washington Avenue Canal spills over its banks. Video ends at the South Carrollton Avenue entrance to Interstate 10.

Katrina: Stairs On The Water

October is pregnant with November owls, smells of holidays
Wreathing round tables, windows.
No stairs.

First stories are ten feet high, with water marks, loose tin,
Loose memories of
No stairs.

Last year’s October, barren. Tears miscarried, dreams in
Beer bottles; toys, clothes, food begged by
Fire stations. No ice.
No stairs.

Christmas of words, Thanksgiving of doctors.
Halloween strutted real…mad dancing, skulls worn
And uncovered. No treats.
No stairs.

Were you proof-reading the Ten commandments,
Knowing water never goes to Heaven?
On that sunset lake were shadows of someone
Stumbling.
Too many stairs.

You were always right, but not always on time.
You took from Heaven.
You would not give.
Too many stairs
Got in the way.

This is how it was on my much beloved bayous…I was not in New Orleans. I could only pray for them.
Would you believe that FEMA is now almost telling those victims to move out of FEMA trailers? True.
And, there are still families, on the bayous, that have never gotten a FEMA trailer at all……grrrrrrrrr

Today is the 3rd anniversary of hurricane katrina. Since katrina I’ve been living in new york during summer time i go back to visit and last year and the year before on the anniversary of katrina august 29. I never cry or anything or show emotion and i never noticed untill Today i actually cried. It was 5am dis morning when I began to cry and on aug.29.05 at 5am My mom called me into her room becuz katrina was hitting. Today i woke up at 10 am, which is 9am downsouth and i remembered every thing that happened within that same our on aug.29.05 and I never did this before last year or last year before. I started to cry really really hard at 5am this morning, I pretended that I was talking to someone telling them the ENTIRE ENTIRE story. It was like a movie in my mind things that i never knew i still remembered came back in my mind. There was 12feet of water downstairs in my house we floated through on doors and got our neighbors the more we walked to the bridge the less the water was deep and we floated and floated untill we was able to walk through as soon as the water hit below my knees then to my ankles Remebering that this morning I started to cry and thanked God we made it. It was tough looking down my neighborhood in the window of myhouse the playground etc. that was once there was nothing but water!! I went crazy this morning. Tom. aug.30. is when i actually left my house in the 12 feet of water. Last year and the last year b4 i was in new orleans and I felt good cuz this is my home. But why did it hit me so hard This morning, today. Is it becuz Im not in new orleans now on this day??

Hurricane season is upon us once again. As a former resident of Dade County FL (Miami), I can tell you that Hurricane Andrew was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced.

On August 24th 1992, Andrew made landfall in Southern Dade County around 5AM. I used to live in Aventura, on the Dade Broward Co line, 40 miles from Homestead. Shingles were torn from the roof, and windows were blown out by falling tree limbs. Homestead was leveled. At that time, Andrew was the most devistating natural disaster in US history. We all know how devistating Katrina was for the New Orleans area. Andrew and Katrina have many similarities. Andrew hit on Aug 24th. Katrina on Aug 29th. Andrew hit South FL as a Cat 5 hurricane, and then took a track straight for New Orleans, hitting New Orleans as a Cat 1 days later. Katrina hit Miami as a Cat 1 and then followed the same track as Andrew, however, unlike Andrew Katrina strengthened in the Gulf and was a Cat 3 when it hit New Orleans, and the region

1. Which of the following would most likely appear in a feature article, but not in a news article, about Hurricane Katrina? (
A)a map showing meteorological data about the storm, such as total rainfall and top wind speeds
B)a sidebar containing a brief interview with a former New Orleans resident who was displaced by the storm
C)a chart listing information about public and private disaster-relief agencies that responded after the storm

2. Something that is prevalent happens (1 point)
A)very rarely.
B)occasionally.
C)often.

Some people criticize Bush for "not doing enough" during Hurricane Katrina, but doesn’t the president have a very busy agenda all the time? Plus, some people say Bush was supposed to land the plane in the flooded areas — how?
Also, wouldn’t that have prevented National Guard troops from getting the aid and perishables through that (limited) supply lines in the affected areas?

It’s kind of a big security deal if the President of the United States lands a plane somewhere dangerous… it would have been a clear distraction…

More importantly, didn’t the government already GIVE advance warning to the New Orleans residents to move out? 80% of the residents did, but of the few that refused to, why should the government be blamed for someone’s irresponsibility to follow directions?

To be fair, I feel the same way with Obama.
It’s BP who caused the spill, not the Federal government.
So how can he be blamed? Why are people saying it’s "Obama’s Katrina"?

Now, I’m not a fan of government so much, but how much can a single person do to fix everything??
Shouldn’t people be grateful at least that our shores aren’t covered with oil for a month already?

They may have done better getting people out of town. At least the Texans weren’t left wading through water or sitting on rooftops as the New Orleans people were, but forgetting to supply food and water for the First Responders is a pretty grievous error. They even had to put out an emergency call for those people who had ridden out the hurricane to share their food and water with the emergency workers who were trying to help those in need of aid.

Do you think FEMA will ever be able to handle an emergency without mishaps? Do you think they will repeat their Katrina errors and the residents left destitute years after the disaster?

The Following table shows annual maximum wind speeds (in miles per hour) observed over a ten year period (1995-2004 inclusive) at New Orleans, USA.

40 38 57 73 69 45 52 58 61 50

(a) Produce a stem-and-leaf plot for these data, and comment.

(b) Calculate the mean and standard deviation for the wind speed maxima.

(c) Construct a 90% confidence interval for the population mean wind speed maxima.

(d) Hurricane Katrina battered New Orleans in 2005 with a maximum wind speed of 182 mph being observed. Why are the mean and standard deviation no longer the most useful summaries of location and spread? Obtain more appropriate summaries of location and spread for the wind speed data which now includes this new observation of 182.

(e) Produce a Box-and-Whisker plot for the wind speed data which includes the 2005 value.

I’m currently visiting in New Orleans. It’s a great place, I like it. However, it’s very depressing looking at the damage that still exists 4 years later. There are a lot of vacant buildings with shattered windows, and some neighborhoods still look trashed and inhabitable. It’s pretty sad. Why don’t they tear down these old buildings and houses, and replace them with new ones?

I assume places that were affected by Hurricane Ike in Houston look similar.
I meant uninhabitable houses.

Why did gas prices increase nationwide after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 29, 2005, even before the physical effects of the disruption to the gas industry could have affected supply?

I do feel bad but come on its been 18 months. Its always about New Orleans please when you live 14 feet below sea level what do you expect when a CAT 5 hurricane is coming. Mississippi got hurt THE WORST and there not complaining. I know about hurricane I grew in Florida.

Everyone knows how this happened.
Bush/Cheney planned 9/11. BUT, they could not blame Iraq directly, so they called OBL, and told him he would be the fall guy. OBL agreed, as he did with the Clintons on the Cole, the Embassies, and previous WTC attack.(Bush was behind all those attacks, too, shhh) They don’t want you to know that either.
Then, after getting Saddam, they would stay there for years after, to control the oil supply. Pay no attention to how much oil we bought from Iraq prior to the invasion.
Also, the government’s secret Hurricane producing machine would create a storm so severe that it could wipe out an entire city. New Orleans was chosen, so the government could use a hurricane as an excuse to raise oil prices. So Bush is behind Katrina TOO!!!
The attacks in Spain, London, and all over the world were orchestrated by Bush, to make people believe we’re in a war on terror. Watch Tony Blair’s bank account after he leaves office. He was in on it too.
IT IS SO OBVIOUS!
