I live in Miami is she coming I’m so scared and should me and my family evacuate I have shutters on all the windows and everything else what do i do IM SO SCARED
My mom wants to leave the windows cracked a bit, she said it will help them to not break due to the wind but I read you should have them closed tight, also read if you have them close it can cause your roof to be blown off. Don’t tell me I have to have storm windows, shutters or boards because nobody really did that in jersey unless down the shore. So what should I do with the windows? Leave them cracked a bit or close them all?
WE got canned foods and stuff we re gonna buy some shutters , but do you think is better to evacuate ?
im on the upper level of maryland i live in baltimore but where i live is like a hill
I am trying to put up aluminun shutters and don’t know how far outside the window I have to be. Do I just cover the window? Or do I go a few inches further? Please help me. I have never done this before. How far are the headers supposed to be?
In 2006 I had shutters installed at my home. The company I used, Alpha Home Systems was licenced and insured and chraged 0 for obtaining necessary permits.
On February 4, the City of Doral posted a Violation Notice on my door stating that there was no permit on file for the shutters and the company was not licenced to work in Doral.
I need an inspection in order to file for a permit how do I go about doing that? Who should be inspecting the shutters a home inspector or an engineer?

I live on the gulf coast. Almost all the houses in town (including mine) have decorative fake shutters instead of real ones. Wouldn’t it be a heck of a lot easier to have real shutters and just close them when a hurricane blows into town instead of going out and nailing plywood over the windows? What am I missing here?
I realize shutters can’t hurt, but I’m seeking the opinion of a well-informed source whether they are necessary, or not. I’ve searched and searched but have been unfruitful in my mission; So if you could shed some light, it would be much appreciated.
Hurricane season is here and we just bought a house that did not come with shutters. We don’t want to use plywood, we want shutters. Anyone know of a good place to purchase shutters and have them installed before the first hurricane? I live in South Florida (and not by choice! Believe me! I would move in a heartbeeat if I could…)
Eid Mubarak
T’was the day of eid and all through the streets
many of the childreen were getting goodies and treats
They walked around happily in their new salwar kameez
to fly their kites in the autome breeze
It was such a joyful day here in India
we had all come as one to remember allah
Everyone had come to the mosque in order to pray
because we all knew it was such a memorial day
please give me some tips
im not good with writting poems
we are supposed to copy this poem
So far I got that….
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
Ok, I am 18 years old with a sibling that keeps leaving the doors unlock. So my mother decided it would but good to bult lock the doors before she goes to bed. So I can no longer go outside at night or go out without being able to stay out late. I would have to come back to my house by midnight or im just fucked. I have no key. She thinks I will let my little sister outside. She does not trust me even though I have never own a key. So the question is how would I get out of my house? I have no windows. They are all hurricane windows with shutters. Would I be able to unscrew the bolted doors without making any noise. Would the doors even open lol. I can get an escape ladder cause the windows up stairs are not shuttered up. But I just broke my clavical bone so I’m not sure if thats a good idea. Atleast a safe idea. And I think the bolted doors are drilled in. I DONT KNOW.. I need megga help. I cant live like this. I cant live in a cage. I just fucking graduated and want to party.
Lol and I cant move out. I dont make enough money and cant get another job. I’m in a bit of a mess right now so I cant get another job. I would like one to get out of here though
I live in South Florida. West Palm Beach to be exact. And from the looks of it Ike is coming this way. I am a mom with a 2 1/2 year old and my daughter will be 1 the 20th of this month. My husband is like retarded when it comes to this. We have metal awnings for shutters and we have hard wood floors that have gaps. This house was built in the 60’s too. How do I know if this place is safe? I am afraid for my kids. I mean what do I do? How do I make my hubby understand?
Are you worried about IKE? What have you done to get ready? Aren’t you tired of being told to "hunker down"? We’re putting up the shutters tomorrow and still have most everything else (batteries, water, food) from the "Fay" scare. What have you done?
Crow where’s Lake County? I’m in the Treasure Coast.
Southern - my mother-in-law (who I love) is in Louisiana (Washington parish) I know how you feel!
Where is it going?
Ilive in South florida (Broward)
is it going to hit me ??
What catagory?
should i put shutters?
So, everyone in the path of a hurricane is, again, boarding up their windows with plywood sheets.
Here’s the question:
Why did we stop building houses with real, working shutters? Wouldn’t that be more efficient, faster, and cheaper?
the hurricane shutter contractor installed shutters in our ocean front bldg, using galvanized instead of stainless steel.
What can we expect for a life expectancy’s for the galvanized vs, the stainless steel. and isn’t it wrong for the contractor to have done this as htey knew that the installation was to be on the oceanl
I have this project at school and I need to know about 3 different things on the outside of my house (shutters) that can protect me from a hurricane I DESPERETLY NEED HELP!
I currently rent a home, when hurricane Fay was coming to Fort Myers i called my landlord & ask for the shutters, they say i was responsible that they don’t provide them. Is that legal i mean i only RENT not OWN. Please Help?
I live in Florida and hurricane season is at its peak. Two storms already making their way, far but surely.
I have been told that you cannot have shutters up at certain times or you will be penalized. When is the right time? Do I need to see the weather advisory as hurricane warning or watch before putting them up with no penalty. I am totally confused…thanks
With several tropical storms out there in the Atlantic, I am concerned that the property manager wants to charge me a pretty high price for putting up these shutters. Am I responsible for doing it? I thought I could just take my pet and leave. I am willing, however, to be shown how or even have help putting them up, but I cannot pay him for it.
There is nothing in my lease concerning this. I thought I could contact the property manager, advise I was leaving for the duration of the hurricane (of course, with a couple of days advance for him to put up shutters), with no intention of leaving permanently. As for "brain power", I’ve got plenty - or I wouldn’t have owned the homes I did. I’m just up against Florida property managers/renters now, which are out of my league or I wouldn’t be wasting my time here. Anyway, I suppose I can just tape the windows then??
the owner do they have to..?
My landlord (owner) is leaving town for a month and has basically said that if there is a hurricane they will not be able to put up shutters for the apartment. Do they have to..?
I am trying to determine if shutters will offer complete protection in a hurricane or just protection against "flying missles".
Im working with my dad putting up shutters and i was wondering what would be a good amount payment for me to have enough to buy an xbox 360
I have aluminum shutters I want to put up. If I have to put them up vertically, I have to cut one so they'll fit. But if I can put them horizontally, they'll fit perfectly.
Is there a difference in safety or anything between these two?
I am trying to put up aluminun shutters and don't know how far outside the window I have to be. Do I just cover the window? Or do I go a few inches further? Please help me. I have never done this before. How far are the headers supposed to be?
I live in south florida and I need to have ALL window openings protected in case of a hurricane, which includes skylights (or I dont get my insurance premium reduced). I am getting shutters for all my other windows and sliding doors, What can I do with my skylights? I doubt, although I am unsure, that they are impact glass currently. Help!
