As the center of the storm passed over Central Park at midmorning, floodwater reached the wheel wells of some stranded cars in Manhattan, and more streamed into the streets of Queens. Still, the storm was far from the worst fears. The Sept. 11 museum, a centerpiece of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, said on Twitter that none of its memorial trees were lost. Irene weakened to winds of 65 mph, below the 74 mph dividing line between a hurricane and tropical storm. The system was still massive and powerful, forming a figure six that covered the Northeast. On Monday afternoon, StormChasingVideo.com Weather Paparazzi Brandon Sullivan was near Tipton, OK where he caught this extraordinary tornado footage. In the start of the video it shows a wide shot of the storm and the tornado on a southward approach to the storm. Brandon zooms into a tight shot of the tornado while he and his chase partners follow the storm. The video then shows a medium to tight shot on a powerful tornado ripping across the ground. This footage shows a text book violent tornado. The footage continues as the tornado travels to the north with both with intense circulation as it traveled across the open country. At one point the large tornado becomes translucent allowing the inner circulation to become apparent. As the tornado moved to the north, it went into the Wichita Mountains in southwest Oklahoma. Brandon tried to keep up with the tornado and in the end of the footage it is from his a GoPro camera mounted on the hood of his truck with a wide angle point of view as he approached the large tornado. Hurricane Irene remains on course to batter the east coast of the United States this weekend, as extraordinary images from space reveal the scale of the powerful storm. Irene strengthened to a Category Three storm, with winds of 120mph (195km) as it continued to wreak havoc across the Caribbean and edged towards the US mainland. Live television pictures from the International Space Station, orbiting the earth 200 miles up, showed the sheer size of Irene’s cyclonic cloud. Irene could be upgraded to a Category Four - classified as having winds of up to 155mph - within 24 hours. The first hurricane of this year’s storm season is expected to gather power as it races across the warm waters of the Caribbean in the next 48 hours. Forecasters say it could threaten densely populated centres in the north-east, including New York and Philadelphia, with its predicted path also passing close by major tourist destinations on the coast of the Carolinas. It is expected to miss Florida and Georgia. Bill Read, director of the US National Hurricane Centre, said: “The exact centre of the storm may actually stay pretty close to the coastline during the day on Saturday and then become a big threat for New England and perhaps Long Island on Sunday. “Be advised, it is going to be a very large circulation as it moves north of the Carolinas.” Irene would be the first hurricane to make direct landfall in the United States since Hurricane Ike hit Texas in 2008, and authorities have warned people to …

A massive tornado that swept through the US state of Missouri on Sunday claimed the lives of at least 89 people in the city of Joplin. Authorities warn that the toll could rise as rescuers continue searching for victims. The twister destroyed homes, churches and businesses, damaging about 30 per cent of the city. The same storm system that produced the Joplin tornado spawned twisters along a broad swath of the Midwest, from Oklahoma to Wisconsin. At least one person was killed in Minneapolis. Monday was a classic storm chasing day in south central Nebraska as multiple tornadoes hit Hamilton and York counties. We have put together this compilation video from several of our StormChasingVideo.com freelance chasers to show the power and the beauty of the violent tornadoes in Nebraska on Monday. In the first part of the video was shot by Meteorologist Brandon Ivey who is with the TIV or Tornado Intercept Vehicle for Discovery Channels TV show “Storm Chasers”. The tornado moved off into a farm field as the TIV crew continued to keep with the storm At one minute and thirty six second into the video, it show the footage from Eric Treece who caught the Bradshaw,NE tornado from near the beginning of its life cycle and continued to chase it until it roped-out or dissipated. The footage by Eric Treece shows a classic tornado that is back lit by as it rips up a farm field. At one point it passes right behind a farm but does not destroy the buildings. Eric keeps on chasing the tornado after it passed by his location until it dissipated.
