it’ll be that time again in 3 months. I live in louisiana and it seems like we just barely went through hurricane gustav and hurricane season is already coming again. I always get kinda nervous about us having another 2005. not just talking about new olreans either, that year was crazy as hell when it came to hurricanes. do you think this’ll just be another season to come and go or something worse? also have they made the predictions on how many storms we’ll have? :)

I’m almost 17 and I really love storms and I hope to be a storm chaser when I get older. But is there anything wrong with chasing them now? I know all about tornado safety–I’ve lived smack dab in the middle of tornado alley my entire life and have studied storms and tornadoes quite intensly.

Would it be stupid (as far as safety goes) to chase storms at my age? I’m also very into photography which would be one of the main reasons I would go chasing (to get photos). What do you think?

hurricane season is approaching and every year my fellow gulf coast residents prepare for the big one (remember rita?) they run to the store and buy all the supplies and water and other non perishables weeks before it even begins. normally i dont prepare too much but my question is does anybody here have a hurricane survival plan? any special tips they would like to offer such as evacuation routes, supply storage,. etc. ive lived in houston and louisiana my whole life and survived a lot of storms but with the economy being so unstable and with gas and food being so expensive, any tips we can share with one another would be nice.

I’m a fanatic of supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes, it’s like an thing that i am hooked onto. I’ve started having the hobbies of watching tornadoes back when i first got my 1st computer when i was 12 years old, we had dial up back then but i used to watch storm chaser’s tornado videos like all day. I’m 19 years old right and i have a laptop and i keep a bunch of photos and videos that i shot of thunderstorms when it rolled through my town and i would upload it to youtube for sharing, i have dsl now. But would any wife would let their husband have this kind of hobby ? Sometimes during a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado watch i would go outside and snap photos of the clouds before it rained. I don’t know if any wives ever accept this kind of hobby. Would an hobby of something like this will ever get into a way of a relationship ? I consider myself as one of these guys who dedicate their lives photographing storms.

Everybody is predicting an very active hurricane season. The are predicting 13 to 17 named storms 7 to 10 Hurricanes and 3-5 Major Hurricanes. What are your predictions? Who do you think might get it this year
Gulf Coast-Texas to Florida West Coast
Florida East Coast to Virginia
New Jersey to New ENgland

Last year the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association predicted 13-16 named storms, 8-10 minor to medium hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes to make landfall or have a considerable affect on the U.S., obviously this statement was waaay off and as a result every organization that predicts the hurricane season is downsizing their predictions.

I understand that the field of meteorology has merit and is not any sort of pseudoscience, but can climatology really be considered actual science after so many errors in the calculation of data? Even the prediction for when the ozone layer will repair itself is all over the place and continuously changing. Does the fact that most data gathered in the field of climatology is based on simple computer simulations of complex scenarios make anyone skeptic on whether they can be trusted for true and reliable data?

Can we truly predict and simulate a system as complex as the weather and the environment? Consider Chaos theory.
OK! PLEASE PEOPLE:
METEOROLOGIST DOES NOT MEAN CLIMATOLOGIST!!!! METEOROLOGIST = WEATHERMAN, CLIMATOLOGIST = LONG-TERM FORCASTER OF WORLD CLIMATE SHIFT

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING I CRITICIZE WEATHER FORCASTERS!!!!

I’ve heard people say that dogs usually have their puppies at night. Is that true? And also, is it true that dogs will often-times deliver if a storm arises? Anyone ever experience this?
And no, I’m not a backyard breeder or anything like that. I just started volunteering at an animal shelter where we currently have several pregnant dogs who are due any day now, and it just so happens we are expecting storms tonight.

we are (from work)!!!!!!….just wondering why everyone is getting so excited about fay…she doesn’t seem as bad as previous storms we have been through…anybody else’s school or work closed tomorrow?

Hurricane Jimena misses Cabo San Lucas and takes aim further up the Baja peninsula.

According to officials, this year’s hurricane season will be "less chaotic" but still "very busy".

They are predicting 17 nameded storms, including nine hurricanes, with a potential of five of them being "intense".

With hurricane season quickly approaching, what are your feelings on the kind of season we’re going to have?

Answers from people who were effected by any of last year’s hurricanes a plus…People from the midwest might want to sit this one out.

I live in Florida and hurricane season is at its peak. Two storms already making their way, far but surely.

I have been told that you cannot have shutters up at certain times or you will be penalized. When is the right time? Do I need to see the weather advisory as hurricane warning or watch before putting them up with no penalty. I am totally confused…thanks

there is this low out in the ocean or as they are saying invest 97. its in warm water and heading to warmer waters. not very orginized but has lots of storms with it. it is a messy invest. do you think this will turn into a td or ts or huricane. i think if storms stay eith the invest as it moves toward the warmer waters it will need to ne watched. i think it may atleast turn into a td. what does it have to get to to be a td whst wind and ect. will they be flying into invest 97 at any time. when is the next update on invest 97? how offten do they do updates on invests?

there is no wood to nail a plywood cover into. these weekly threats of storms is getting to me.

Now everyone here is celebrating since the the National Hurricane Center is saying "oh were so safe." I have tracked storms for a while and have seen such error in forecasts. Should we really be safe? What if it turns into the gulf then heads here? What if that low they been talking about isn’t as weak as expected?

I originally heard that this year would have a bad hurricane season for the Atlantic. However, there have been only two storms so far? Is this season still predicted to be bad?

Do you take shelter? Do you put your middle finger up in the wind and say…fcukin bring it on? Do you put on rain gear and go out in it and fight through it? Do you ignore it?

Of course we are talking about life storms not real ones…but you get what I am asking?

We are traveling to Cancun on Friday morning and staying 9 days…I just received warning that there is a blue advisory for Cancun regarding tropical storm Gustav. Does anyone know what the likely hood is that this storm would hit Cancun and if so would it effect flight schedules?

I have been watching the weather for Cancun for the past 3 weeks and the warning has been white all along so when I checked it today on www.cancunweathertoday.com and it was marked blue I started freaking out.
As of right now it won’t hit Cancun till Saturday night and it will only bring some strong storms. If the airlines fly in you will be ok they wont’ bring passengers in for a bad storm. Good luck everyone.

I live in Florida, and just 2 years ago, we had 4 hurricanes hit my state within 5 weeks. The National Hurricane Center actually ran out names to call the storms, and so moved to the Greek alphabet. Now in 2006, we've only had one weak storm hit us, and the hurricanes are few and weak. How does the EL Nino Effect cause this very slow hurricane season as compared to the very recently active ones?

Another fine collection of severe weather footage from my Broadcast collection. The actual footage contains longer clips. The footage is very high quality. All footage was shot by me, and is released for public viewing on You Tube. Please visit our main website at stormchaser.com to email as we do not check our box here frequently.

Please be specific - don't just say "worse" - explain whether that means more hurricanes, more severe hurricanes, a longer hurricane season, all of the above….. And don't just say "better" - explain whether that means fewer hurricanes, fewer storms, weaker storms, fewer storms hitting land, etc….

Thank you

storms and _______?

I know that I've read that some federal law prohibits government agencies other than the National Hurricane Center from "naming" storms. I seem to recall hearing about this in the context of attempts by forecast offices to start systems of naming lake effect snow events or cyclones. This came up in conversation over the excitement about "Cyclone Emma", which is currently hitting central Europe. (Apparently these names are assigned by the Free University of Berlin's "Adopt-a-Vortex" program.) Any truth to this?
