I remember seeing a movie that features like twisters, and in the end, there was like a Blackbird and some suicidal pilot who flew into the twisters for getting data, and ended up disintegrating… Is it called Twister or something? The plot on IMDb doesn’t say.

Now, in Into the Storm, he takes readers inside the terrifying and awe-inspiring world of big weather. Into the Storm is Timmer’s dramatic account of his extraordinary profession. Featuring stories of the three-hundred-plus extreme tornadoes, hurricanes, or blizzards that Timmer has watched ring-side over the last decade—storms that include the killer F5 tornado that struck Moore, Oklahoma, in May 1999; the unprecedented, devastating storm surge of Hurricane Katrina; and the little-studied but enormously powerful storm systems in places like Canada and Argentina. Hurricane Irene remains on course to batter the east coast of the United States this weekend, as extraordinary images from space reveal the scale of the powerful storm. Irene strengthened to a Category Three storm, with winds of 120mph (195km) as it continued to wreak havoc across the Caribbean and edged towards the US mainland. Live television pictures from the International Space Station, orbiting the earth 200 miles up, showed the sheer size of Irene’s cyclonic cloud. Irene could be upgraded to a Category Four - classified as having winds of up to 155mph - within 24 hours. The first hurricane of this year’s storm season is expected to gather power as it races across the warm waters of the Caribbean in the next 48 hours. Forecasters say it could threaten densely populated centres in the north-east, including New York and Philadelphia, with its predicted path also passing close by major tourist destinations on the coast of the Carolinas. It is expected to miss Florida and Georgia. Bill Read, director of the US National Hurricane Centre, said: “The exact centre of the storm may actually stay pretty close to the coastline during the day on Saturday and then become a big threat for New England and perhaps Long Island on Sunday. “Be advised, it is going to be a very large circulation as it moves north of the Carolinas.” Irene would be the first hurricane to make direct landfall in the United States since Hurricane Ike hit Texas in 2008, and authorities have warned people to …

May 24th 2011, after coming really close to a giant wedge tornado in Lookeba Oklahoma, Holy Tornado then raced south to Chickasha were we once again got our visual of the mesocyclone just off to our southwest. Before this thing had condensed all the way to the ground, you could see the concentrated area where the funnel was about to emerge from the meso. It seemed like there was just a cloud of debris on the ground underneath this meso forever until it had finally fully condensed. Thereafter as the twister gets closer, it intensifies dramatically right outside Jeremy’s window. Shortly after this, you see it hit several homes in a small community and also hits a trailor house and lofts it out the back of the twister. We immediately start searching through rubble and debris. Sadly, one person perishes from this destructive twister and there were numerous injuries. May god be with the families that were effected by this and may the recovery process get underway fast and be quickly completed.

The Elie, Manitoba Tornado was an F5 tornado that struck the town of Elie, Manitoba on June 22, 2007. While several houses were leveled, no one was injured or killed by the tornado. Me and Tara were driving on the trans-canada right into the the thing, crazy kids, we drove past it about 100 metres away this is when the gap between the approach and the crossing occurs, the audio would not transfer from my Lg chocolate phone to my Macbook pro. There are a few times where we are like its coming towards us go go go, and another time like wow its getting huge. The ground was shaking so we peaced out pretty quick, Pretty sick experience!!! Tara was driving and I was filming from my phone. Just recently repaired my damaged phone to get the footage back and to share with all

F5 Tornado hits Andover Kansas April 26, 1991. This is my never before seen original video. (Note-Time on clock is 3 hours slow) This video shows 9 minutes in the life cycle of a deadly F5 tornado. The tape ends about one minute before the tornado destroys a large portion of Andover Kansas and completely wipes out the Golden Spur Mobile home park, killing 13 and causing many injuries. At about the 3:00 minute mark you can see it go into a multiple vortex stage followed by the formation of a large wedge tornado. My video of the aftermath is linked in the video responses found below.
Roger Hill and crew put a camera in the path of an oncoming cow, and a tornado. Roger’s incredible book “Hunting Nature’s Fury” is available at www.wildernesspress.com.
Here are some of the lesser known F5’s that have have barreled across the nation. I am currently in the works making a second video. EDIT: ok, it looks like a made a mistake. The Parkersburg tornado was an EF5 instead of an F5. there was a change in scale i think in February, 2007. not sure on the year. Thank You Dragonridley! some of these videos came from National Geographic. no copyright infringement intended for any of the selections used. all property right for said selections belongs solely to National Geographic.
Here is video I found long time ago at some website (I dont remember where it was) showing quite unknown f5 tornado that struck Oakfield on July 18th, 1996. Sry no sound.
A rare fire tornado has been seen in the Brazilian state of Sao Paolo. A whirlwind of flame, spiralling several metres high, danced across burning fields, bringing traffic to a halt on a nearby highway. This unusual phenomenon has been caused by a combination of wildfires and strong dry winds following weeks of drought in the country. Authorities in Brazil are struggling to contain the fires and have banned farmers from burning waste from the sugar cane harvest.
On Monday, BNVN Weather Paparazzi Eric Treece was chasing one of the several tornadoes that formed in eastern Colorado along Highway 71 south of Brush, CO. In the footage, Eric is standing underneath a rope tornado that is less than a quarter mile away from him on the ground and rises up and extends over him as it goes up to the cloud base. The video pans back to the ground and back up to the cloud base to show how large and how long the tornado actual is. As you watch this footage, note that the tornado from the clouds does extend to the ground but there is rotation on the ground. The condensation funnel of the tornado is invisible until it touches the ground and throws debris into the air. To license this footage, contact www.bnvn.com
www.UltimateChase.com EXCLUSIVE video up close as a tornado rips through the countryside in South Dakota. Watch as a church get spared by less than 100 yards. Video shot by Mike Theiss while driving for Cloud 9 Tours. The power of nature up close and personal can be rewarding at times but other times disturbing and sad. While chasing Tornadoes we never wish to see these tornadoes affect peoples homes, etc…. We estimate this tornado crossed the road about 200 yards in front of us. It was hard to keep the camera steady in 80+ mph winds being sucked into the tornado. Want to see something like this is person with experienced chasers ?
