My back yard neighbor has 2 large dogs, ones a german shepard mix and the other is a lab pit mix. The dogs live outside. Day and night. Whether the neighbor is home or not they are out there. They are fed and watered but they have no dog house, no shelter at all from the elements. Today it rained and they were just sitting out there getting rained on and shivering. On other days it gets very very hot here in TX and they’re just laying out on the concrete patio asleep in the hot sun. My question is- is this ok? Aren’t dogs supposed to have a dog house or some kind of shield from the weather? Am I overreacting? Who should I call about this so they can let him know this is wrong?
1. Atmospheric pressure systems are often easy to see on satellite images. This
particular image focuses on western Europe in October 2001, with Spain in the
lower left part of the image and clouds showing up in bright white. Given your
understanding of pressure systems, where is the high pressure system in this
image? Where is the approximate center of the high? In what direction is this
system spinning and where are the southerly and northerly winds in the system?
2. Why is air pressure greater at low altitudes rather than high altitudes?
3. Which direction does air flow at the surface, from cyclone to anticyclone, or
the reverse?
I want to build something easy I can build for shelter for my horses.
I am not good at building but since living on a farm you know how to patch things up etc… Even if it doesnt look nice. I have a lot of scrap wood and want to build maybe 2 shelters for my horses out in the pasture.. Any good ideas or picture step by steps?? Remember I really know nothing about building but want to try.. Its just about winter and gotta get my horses shelter… It doesnt have to be fancy. My horses dont care as long as they can get out of the weather.
Thank you!! God bless!!

I’m looking at buying a safe room shelter that anchors to concrete slab. I’m not real fond of the idea of an underground shelter because I’m really claustorphobic and the thought of being underground freaks me out. Do you or anyone you know have one of these safe rooms outdoors, and how safe are they, really? It says FEMA certified for F5 tornado. I won’t buy one of these and then it fly apart, right? Is it safe to take shelter in for a hurricane as well as tornado? Tornados are my main concern.
Come on weather people. I know you know about these things…
man swims out of his own home.when water was 5 feet up to his chest.this was live footage from the weather channel storm trackers.also playing the song when they played from hurricane katrina.i call it the warning song.glad things didn’t get any worse.shortly after i made this video storm was dieing down.
I have LaManchas and they do not seem to use their winter shelter. It is a three sided shelter with half the front closed in and a standing feeder a few feet in front of the other half to block wind. It has a bed of straw on the ground. However, I never see them in there and do not see any droppings. I see them in the large A frame shelter a lot, but not the winter shelter. I thought drafts were bad for goats? The A frame has part of the opening blocked by a feeder and a piece of plywood but it is still open and the other side is completely open. With the weather getting cold (frost in the mornings and the horses water is getting ice) I thought they would at least spend nights in the winter shelter. So I guess my question is will they use it if they need it, or will they just hang out in the A shelter until they get pneumonia?
Thanks everyone. A barn is not an option right now so the sheds will have to do. I built the winter shed at only four feet to try and keep the heat in. I have straw bales in the A frame and they have spread one all over the ground. I will try adding one to the winter shelter and see if that helps. Also the opening is faced toward the least windy direction. I was trying to make it better by putting the hay feeder in front of it but I guess I did block their view. Great perspectives guys. Thanks so much.
My family is going on vacation to Bermuda on the week of July 29. Is this hurricane season and will we be affected at all by the weather. Can anyone give some basic info about Bermuda and whats nice there and what to visit and what to stay away from.Much appreciated!
My friends are needing a small building, about four feet tall, six feet long and four feet wide. It doesn’t have to be much, just enough to keep out the weather. I had an idea of sticking four pieces of river cane into the ground and simply wraping it with tarps. Have you got any better ideas? We don’t really have any money.
We have a lot of grass or other plants and stems, etc. to use, so it can be natural. I just don’t know how to thatch a roof, or I would’ve probably done it by now.
OK so I know I made this whiny post about crying about the stray cats and feeling sorry for them. And while I’m still very emotional, I just gotta learn to be realistic. So yeah, I’m wondering if there are things I can do to help the cats out…anything besides letting them in. I’d let them in but they’d prob. poop all over my room and who knows what diseases they might carry. Therefore, because of the weather and rain, I have to know how to shelter and feed them from outside my house. They’re currently sitting on my porch. I’m thinking about getting a box, putting a blanket in it and covering it with another blanket…will that help? Also, I’m feeding them milk. What else can I feed them?
Please tell me everything I need to do in order to help them out.
Alright so the rain got pretty bad and I went in and got a box, put a blanket in it and then put another blanket over it. They went inside now what else can I do? and how can I improve the shelter?
Hurricane Charley strengthened rapidly just before striking the southwestern coast of Florida, over Charlotte Harbor, as a Category Four hurricane. Although extremely small in size, Charley produced sustained winds of 150mph and gusts to near 175mph, causing catastrophic wind damage in the communities of Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, FL. The Charlotte County Medical Center recorded an unofficial gust of 150kts (173mph) and the Charlotte County Airport recorded 139kts (160mph). Charley’s minimum central pressure at landfall was 942mb (27.82in) and I recorded 950mb (28.05in) at my location near Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Veteran storm chaser Andy Dressler accompanied me on this chase.
What do we really need to survive: Air, water, food, shelter or protection from the weather, the sun and this planet that holds us all. The absence of any one of these, will mean the end our existence for sure. Without gold and money, nothing will physically happen to us. But what do you think will happen? Would the things that we do in our everyday life still make sense?
This is a sample of my Tropical Storm Gordon chase footage. This video was taken during Gordon’s slow and erratic movement near and over South Florida, from November 13-16, 1994. Gordon was a relatively disorganized tropical storm, however, it had a very large windfield and produced extended periods of tropical storm conditions over the southern peninsula. Originating in the Caribbean Sea, south of Jamaica, Gordon moved northward across Cuba, then turned west-northwest through the Florida Straits into the Gulf of Mexico and then recurved sharply to the northeast, finally making landfall near Fort Myers. Gordon’s maximum sustained winds were near 50mph with gusts near 70mph. The highest officially recorded winds in South Florida were sustained at 53mph from Virginia Key (near Miami) and a gust to 62mph at the Fowey Rocks lighthouse. I recorded a gust of 72kt (83mph) at my home in Southern Dade country, which was noted in the National Hurricane Center preliminary report on the storm. Highest winds in this video are sustained around 40mph, gusting to 60mph, and occur between 3min 40sec and 4min 30sec into the clip. After leaving Florida, Gordon restrengthend in the Atlantic and reached Hurricane strength offshore North Carolina.
I’m looking for such information as: formation, development, track, the type of weather associated with the low pressure in the three sectors, and atmospheric composition. I’m having hard time finding good information any help would be greatly appreciated. =)
someone leaves ponies to graze on local common land. This is obviously fine during the summer but it worries me that they seem to be out there in all weathers and there’s no shelter, though someone does seem to leave food and water for them regularly.
I’ve reported it to the RSPCA some weeks back but as far as I know they’ve done nothing about it. Can a horsey person tell me is it OK to leave horses outside in very cold conditions? They are quite shaggy ponies - maybe they’re built to withstand our winters?
no-one knows who the owners are - we think they might be travellers’ ponies. They are mostly left unattended and tethered by ropes about 10foot long.
The weather here has been bitterly cold - we’ve had hard frosts and snow.
Since I live in New Orleans keeping up with the weather is more than important, its crucial to your health. I wanna know if anyone has heard about 07 upcoming hurricane season.
I live in memphis, so most likely the weather here is gonna be pretty chilly. Any kind of advice of making a good home for it, what to feed Waffle (i’m naming it Waffle or Petey). I just want to have a happy healthy duckling. Any kind of help will be much appreciated.
THANKYOU!
Footage of Hurricane Gustav at landfall from ground zero in Houma, Louisiana from tornadovideos.net. Footage includes wind gusts to 100 mph, telephone poles breaking, and major tree damage.
May 26, 2008 www.youtube.com Video surveillance footage from First State Bank during the tornado in Parkersburg. Watch the video as the EF-5 tornado crashes into the First State Bank in Parkersburg. The bank was empty, but the surveillance cameras rolled on the disaster. On May 25th, severe weather caused at least six tornadoes in eastern Iowa. The most damaging one wiped out hundreds of homes in Parkersburg, Hazleton, Dunkerton, and New Hartford. Seven people died. It was the strongest tornado to hit Iowa in more than 30 years.
This was taken about a quarter mile away from Dixie dr. Were there was major damage. In the first 15 to 20 seconds you can see the tornado good, then it goes behind the trees.
i have ten budgies and have recently put them all in a new aviary with a lovely big night shelter. this has lots of perches and food and water, i popped them all in when i moved them at night, but they refuse to go into the shelter. please help what can i do. the weather is starting to get very cold and windy and i couldnt bare to loose any of them. thank you
I’m in a unit at school where we’re learning about weather. And I was just wondering these differences. I was also wondering, what exactly is a monsoon and a whirlwind? Thank You!
