Tornadoes fuelled by unusually warm air pummelled the south and midwest of the United States on Friday, killing at least six people and injuring dozens more across the states of Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois. The storm downed power lines and about eight thousand utility customers were left in the dark in Missouri on New Year’s Eve, according to a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Public Safety. www.UltimateChase.com EXCLUSIVE video up close as a tornado rips through the countryside in South Dakota. Watch as a church get spared by less than 100 yards. Video shot by Mike Theiss while driving for Cloud 9 Tours. The power of nature up close and personal can be rewarding at times but other times disturbing and sad. While chasing Tornadoes we never wish to see these tornadoes affect peoples homes, etc…. We estimate this tornado crossed the road about 200 yards in front of us. It was hard to keep the camera steady in 80+ mph winds being sucked into the tornado. Want to see something like this is person with experienced chasers ? Hurricane Charley strengthened rapidly just before striking the southwestern coast of Florida, over Charlotte Harbor, as a Category Four hurricane. Although extremely small in size, Charley produced sustained winds of 150mph and gusts to near 175mph, causing catastrophic wind damage in the communities of Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, FL. The Charlotte County Medical Center recorded an unofficial gust of 150kts (173mph) and the Charlotte County Airport recorded 139kts (160mph). Charley’s minimum central pressure at landfall was 942mb (27.82in) and I recorded 950mb (28.05in) at my location near Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Veteran storm chaser Andy Dressler accompanied me on this chase.

This is a sample of my Tropical Storm Gordon chase footage. This video was taken during Gordon’s slow and erratic movement near and over South Florida, from November 13-16, 1994. Gordon was a relatively disorganized tropical storm, however, it had a very large windfield and produced extended periods of tropical storm conditions over the southern peninsula. Originating in the Caribbean Sea, south of Jamaica, Gordon moved northward across Cuba, then turned west-northwest through the Florida Straits into the Gulf of Mexico and then recurved sharply to the northeast, finally making landfall near Fort Myers. Gordon’s maximum sustained winds were near 50mph with gusts near 70mph. The highest officially recorded winds in South Florida were sustained at 53mph from Virginia Key (near Miami) and a gust to 62mph at the Fowey Rocks lighthouse. I recorded a gust of 72kt (83mph) at my home in Southern Dade country, which was noted in the National Hurricane Center preliminary report on the storm. Highest winds in this video are sustained around 40mph, gusting to 60mph, and occur between 3min 40sec and 4min 30sec into the clip. After leaving Florida, Gordon restrengthend in the Atlantic and reached Hurricane strength offshore North Carolina.

On the evening of 14th September 2009 typhoon Koppu passed to the south of Hong Kong bringing extreme winds and pounding storm surge. Fellow storm chaser Andrew Glanville and I recorded a wind gust of 98mph and filmed winds well in excess of 100mph.

This was taken on the west side of Aurora, NE in the evening of June 17, 2009. I’m amazed at these wonders and love the excitement of seeking out a new adventure. This was definitely an adventure. I was completely safe during the taping of this as I had an escape route planned if it started moving towards me. It sat in the same spot for 18 minutes. I’m not a professional storm chaser, nor do I claim to know everything about tornados, so when listening to the audio you are hearing the …

On October 24, 2005 Hurricane Wilma bounced off the island of Cozumel, Mexico and made her way straight toward the west coast of Florida. This footage was taken after her “eye” had already passed over us in Boca Raton, and her stronger “backside” hit us. The object that you see flying through the air, and hitting the house (listen for the thud when it hits) is a back patio awning that had ripped off the roof of the next-door neighbor. The awning piece strikes the house and breaks in half …
