I’m a Skywarn storm spotter in the Tampa bay area for Florida. As a storm spotter, I’m supposed to report severe weather to the National Weather Service to keep the public informed about severe weather. If our area is under a tornado warning, would it be illegal for me to use a bullhorn and say "This is a tornado warning, seek shelter immediately."? What sort of charges/penalties would I face?

A certain individual asked a "question" the other day about FSU grad student Ryan Maue’s Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) data. He asked for an explanation why Maue’s data is at a 30 year low while hurricane intensity is supposed to be increasing.

I had previously asked a question about this, because Maue’s data contradicts NOAA’s data. I explained in my answer the discrepancy, and that Maue has written a paper attempting to reconcile the differences between his and NOAA’s ACE data, but it hasn’t yet been published. In other words, the individual’s question can’t be answered until this paper is published.

The individual in question said I have "an excuse for everything" and was "attacking the author [Maue]", then chose a "best answer" which didn’t really answer the question, provided zero scientific evidence, and was really nothing more than an ad hominem attack against "alarmists".

Clearly no matter what the explanation was, this individual was going to blindly accept Maue’s data because it showed him what he wanted to see - an apparent contradiction with AGW.

I know certain people object to the term "denier", but how else would you define this kind of behavior other than denial?

I have tried since last night to get my avatar changes to save. On my 360 page I went to photos and change avatar…made the changes, SAVED it…went back to my 360 page and the changes still are not showing. Please don’t tell me HOW to save it…I already know how to do that. I have done everything I can think of…even rebooting my computer. Does anyone know if Yahoo is having problems? Do you think that its weird that i want hurricane Dean to hit miami? My reasons are that hopefully it will delay the start of school. And it gives people an opportunity to repair aging homes and buildings. I also like preparing for the hurricane by going out and buying supplies I know that houses in miami wont fall apart because most are up to code and we dont do that plywood stuff that is done upstate we build with concrete and cement……do any of you "yahoo answer’s" get excitment out of hurricanes..?
Hurricane andrew destroyed whatever falling apart homes and poorly built houses…the last hurricane New orleans got was 50 years earlier…no offense but here miami alot of people take precautions and there are shelters in every corner…in even hurricane andrew there was not many fatalities..

If you’ve ever watched the weather channel , you will remember Max Mayfield , the recently retired director and beloved hurricane forecaster . Mayfiled was the head guru , top-dog of hurricanes .
He retired in January , and now the new guy is under attack by what seems to be his entire staff . They all wrote letters calling for his immediate removal . I guess he exagerated about needing new equipment and the consequences if he doesn’t . So they rebelled and are now ignoring him !! Ohhhhhh my !! LMAO .
So my question is : What do you think will be their next move ? . . . Duels with their pointers ? Thunderbolts ? I hear they’re already in heated battle using sling-shots and hail stones . One guy almost bit the dust when he got hit in the heart , but was miraculously saved by his pocket-protector !! Smile .

My grandmother lives in the Lady lakes area, and that is a long distance call from where I live. When we try to call, it says that it cannot connect us because of an emergancy in the area, or that all lines are busy. I am very worried, and have looked through the Yahoo! Photo Albums of the tragedy. I live where I cannot access her by travel. How can I find out if she is okay?

This is actually a rhetorical question but please read on, this may be our chance to do something about this crisis.

For to long now we have been hearing that the price of oil per barrel is being controlled by supply and demand. Well recently we have had a breathtaking spike in prices due to Hurricane Ike because the oil producing factories in Texas had to shut down. Meaning that supply temporarily went down meaning price per barrel should go up!

Then if they aren’t lying to us how come when i log into my yahoo homepage why do i see the price per barrel shot down ????? But since there is less oil that means demand is up if 20% of our America’s oil supply is cut off right now!

Sounds like we are getting screwed and bush is getting one last big paycheck before he leaves office!

Oh and how come they get to hike the prices on this gas when they had already paid a set price for it???

When your company you work for shuts down do you increase the price for your services by a drastic amount because you shut down for a week or two? Why should they be allowed to in this time of economic strife when they are still making billions a year now in record profits?

Pass that on to your state elected officials maybe now we have the tool and evidence we need to up the pressure and finally put enough of these oil crooks behind bars and scare the others into fixing the prices back where they should be!!!!

My prayer for now and not just because of prices is this, “please god let someone discover a source of renewable energy to replace oil that is safe for our beautiful planet you gave us!”

There is something wrong with the AP photo of the tornado supposedly hitting Iowa on Yahoo! news from Midwest flooding. I got this same photo from friends after the tornado hit Chapman, Kansas. On the left side of the tornado is a square notch missing out of the tornado. Tornadoes don't have missing square pieces. Also there is no rain or hail and the streets aren't wet.
