   Evacuate if your home will not stand up to hurricane force winds or you live directly on the ocean

   Stockpile necessities…such as batteries, water , food, candles, medicine
   dog food.

   It’s advisable to have a portable radio

   Charge your cell phone prior

   Stay indoors until the storm is over.

   Before the hurricane season starts, you should gather a supply kit, including:

   >A first aid kit
   >Flashlights and batteries
   >A supply of non perishable food, water, and any necessary prescriptions
   >Toiletries
   >Extra currency (as ATMs may not work)
   >Pet carriers and supplies if you have pets
   >Plywood for covering windows
   >A generator, if possible

   You should also make sure your car is serviced and reliable.

   When a storm threatens your area, or a hurricane watch is issued:
   >Gather up your supply kit
   >Get in touch with friends/family outside of the area
   >Fill your car’s gas tank and keep it full, as there may not be gas available later
   >Sit down and and plan an evacuation route
   >Secure or bring in any outdoor furniture, decor, etc.

   You may also want to consider boarding your windows at this time. The goal is to have as many preparations in place as possible before a hurricane warning is issued, so that when they are posted, you can evacuate as soon as possible, giving you and your family the most time possible to get to a safer place inland.
