Why do the Dems try and blame Bush for the aftermath of Katrina?
Good grief does anybody know anything about how are government works? Federal goverment can not step in until the state asks for help. And LA knew the hurricane was going to hit them for about 3+ days so why didn’t they ask for help before the hurricane hit? Why did they wait till afterwards? B/c if you read the news that day and in the following weeks, the fed gave ~ billion dollars to LA. And now you have Dems running around saying Bush didn’t do anything. He should have helped sooner. Why doesn’t he care. Like I stated before, Bush could not step in into the governor of LA, which is by the way a Dem, asked him for help. When she did ask for help though, noticed Bush sent military trucks in with food, medicine, and supplies to those people in New Orleans.
And for all those who said the fed could have done a better job, like one of the users stated below, how in the world do you plan for a whole city to become wiped out?
hey map that would have been nice but we have a balance system for a reason. If the Federal gov decided to do that with Katrina, then that means they can just but in whenever they feel like it into state business. That is what you are stating.

Katrina was such a massive disaster!
I think the state waited a couple days after it hit before asking for help. I don’t remember. But seriously, how do you plan and prepare for an entire city to be wiped out. Blame FEMA all you want. I think everyone wanted to help and do what they could.
What I wonder is what they did with all that casino money? And they new the levies were faulty. So who’s really to blame?
Our city had several bus loads of people come to our civic center as a shelter. You should have seen how everyone pulled together and volunteered to help. No one asked if you were rep or dem.
Blaming Bush is just a joke. Democrats will blame anything they can on him. Well, not all dems but a lot do it blindly without researching anything. Then there are others have their heads on straight.
Because that’s human nature. Everyone feels like someone should be blamed for everything.

Basically they are blaming Bush because the Dems don’t take personal responsibility for anything and must constantly point fingers.
Two words -
Desperation and Stupidity.
And when they were sent it, they were horribly unorganized and poor communications systems, and told people to go somewhere for help where there was no help.
I don’t place 100% of the blame on Bush. Nagin and Blanco’s administrations are deserving of blame as well.
Bush hired someone who was unprepared for the job and they did a horrible job of getting aid to people and as a result nearly 3,600 people died (I know, 1800 are still reported as missing, but it’s been over a year - odds are they’re dead).
That’s more than died in 9/11 and it didn’t have to happen.
The morons who conflate Bush and Katrina DO NOT know anything about how our government works - nor do they care.
The problems in N.O. were the mayor and the governor - a pair of classic incompetents whose first order of business was to begin deflecting blame for their own shortcomings.

People tend to blame the moron. So what? They also blame him because he, as an ignorant human being, is…errr….well..ignorant.
The buck stops there. The Federal Government is ultimately responsible for the coordination of emergency response. Many insiders believe the problem evolved after the reorganization of FEMA when it was put under Homeland security. Others feel it was the appointment of cronies rather than qualified people in key positions that made it worse. Yes there are many others to blame. Many did not believe this could happen, even though this exact scenario was predicted.

Those who say it’s 100% Bush are Democrats.
The truth is somewhere between those two polar opposites. EVERYBODY screwed up, including the Bush Administration which has turned a once-proud FEMA into a laughing stock.
How about we play a different game: the I-take-responsibility-for-the-parts-I-did-wrong game??? The ones who take responsibility for what they did wrong first wins. The ones who refuse to ever accept any responsibility lose. Right now, the president, the governor and the mayor all lose.
Because of the absolute failure of the administration to respond in a timely and appropriate manner. As the head of the administration, the responsibility for the failure is his. Furthermore, it’s his fault for appointing his bumbling imbecile crony Michael Brown, the FEMA director. Never mind that the man had absolutely no qualifications, good ol’ W will vouch for him. Put simply, the aftermath of Katrina is blamed on Bush because it’s his fault. There was plenty of failure to go around, and you can be sure that the governor failed just as badly, if not worse, than Bush did, but the blame falls to him because he is in charge. He’s the figurehead. It doesn’t mean it’s his personal fault, but it was the fault of people he was in command of, and as such IS his failure.
Why in a situation as bad as Katrina would Bush wait for a formal request from the Governor? It was on TV 24 hours a day from the first day. Geraldo was able to get to the convention center but for some reason it took the military a better part of a week to get watter and food there. If Bush was any kind of leader and the gov of La was inept as you say then he should said "f**k the Governor" and done what needed to be done and worry about legal and political fall out later.
UPDATE: No, TJ, that’s not what I am stating. Bush declared a state of emergency in Louisiana and other affected states 2 days before land fall. That gave him the authority to act and, if necessary, override local authority.
Nagin and Blanco are both blaming the government to help the damnocratic cause. It is sad when people like these two use tragedy to better their standing among their lying party
blame starts at city hall they did not have a plan to evacuate the city, then it goes to the governors office she did tell fema they were OK, then it goes to the federal government who’s emergency plan states that a state should plan to be on their own for 72 hours after an emergency. well fema was there Thursday at the super dome with food and nagin held it up so people would not stay there. all the media reports were false and exaggerated. funny how bush was the only one who stood up and took responsibility for the failure the other two not so much.
They blame everything on Bush, why wouldn’t they use Katrina? All they do is lie, and screw up all the time, so of course they have to try and make someone else look bad…The thing that amazes me, is that we can have a disgusting man in office, and everyone looks the other way, but then there is a "Godly" man, who tries to uphold life and make the economy more stable, and they want him out of office…I believe the main reason, they don’t like Bush is because he has shown what a bad job they have done, and continue to do.
