Why isn’t Obama in the midwest helping with disaster relief?
There are a million people down there freezing and he just had a big super bowl bash, the damage down there has surpassed damage done during hurricane Ike? Shouldn't he be doing something instead of partying it up with his buds? We donated money to the red cross but my husband and I have full time jobs and there is little else we can do, what is the presidents excuse? Could he not tell with that much ice forecasted that disaster would follow? Shouldn't have have stopped the storm somehow or acted sooner in the relief efforts?
Kristen I have to work unlike most of you libs, we donated money, what did you do?
Jim R who said anything about Katrina?

Heres your link
I am shocked by some of these answers from the libs, Bush was supposed to somehow change the direction of Katrina but when he failed to do so he is still to this day being bashed because so many people ignored warnings and stayed in their homes with a storm of that magnitude heading directly towards them, imagine if he had been at home having a party with his pals, some crazy liberal would have probably scaled the white house walls and shot him. You guys are such hypocrites…such hypocrites!
Thx Goldwater

What are you talking about? I haven't heard of any story. I'm searching through Reuters right now and google, I'm not hearing of any disaster.
Where are you getting your sources from?
Edit: Still searching, I don't see anything. What kind of disaster would hit the midwest, and what kind of disaster hits the entire midwest? What could possibly stretch from Illinois to Idaho? Are you talking about winter? Ya, lots of homeless people die from the cold in winter, but that's only about a few thousand each year in the US. Has some major city been completely out of power or something? Can you at least provide a link to the news story? I'm completely baffled.
Edit2: The news link has said only 42 people died, and it's only in a district in Kentucky. Kentucky isn't in the midwest, It's part of the south. It isn't anything like Katrina at all.
I live in Canada. Power outages and water mains break often during winter. These things are pretty common, I don't see what the big deal is. When it happens in Canada, it's no big deal, but when it happens in the US, apparently some people get in an uproar and start blaming the government on the weather.
How can a man stop a storm? he aint GOD, there are literally thousands of disasters across the United States, as Chief Executive his job is to maintain the country, not police every town. come on, BUsh waited 3 days to visit katrina.
Why don't you fly over there and help instead of complaining?
Be productive instead of whining. That's what you conservatives are all about, right?
What exactly would you prefer, him to perform a low level flyover in Air Force One and play a guitar with a big Presidential Seal on it for them?
Because he's not Jesus. He can't be everywhere.
I'm guessing you're a Conservative. Conservatives like this stuff to be controlled on a statewide level. The President should have no interaction in this.
—————————-
Why am I getting thumbs down? Reagan emphasized statewide decisions. Are Conservatives really turning into Neocons?
Surpassed Katrina BS!!!
He spends at least 80 hours a week trying to fix everything thats messed up right now. The superbowl bash lasted like 5 minutes for him. It's just a PR thing.
Don't worry, we all know it sucks for you. I'm sure people are working as hard as they can. Good luck.
Oh man, Bosco pwned this question.
Watching the Super Bowl on his wide screen and smoking Newports in the Oval office while bragging he beat Mc Cain twice was obviously more important to him.
Um, he has already sent relief workers and aid has been released for those who need it. No, he shouldn't leave the White House to deal with every single storm that happens, nor can he control the weather. Why didn't Bush visit California during the fires…or Texas during the hurricane? Why is it suddenly a big deal when the President doesn't personally visit every single weather struck area in the US?

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (CNN) — Kentucky's governor is praising the Obama administration's prompt reaction to the fierce wintry weather that slammed his state.
"They really hit the ground running," said Steve Beshear, interviewed by CNN. "They're working very hard to get all the equipment and supplies here that we need."
because the great n' rich OBAMER HATES AMERICA!
You mention donating money twice in the space of 2 mins? Why do you feel a need to brag about charitable giving and wear it like a banner?
As for the question - you are being ridiculous. You say you can't go because you have a job. Do you think being President isn't a full time job?
If he was down there you would be attacking him for taking this photo op instead of staying in Washington and fixing the economy.
I understand where you're coming from. As a conservative, however, I can't play along with the double-standard you're trying to point out! Bush got a lot of criticism for the way he handled Katrina and other events in a time of crisis. In the end, peeps just have to realize the prez is going to be reluctant to cancel plans or travel unexpectedly unless his staff has the publicity thing planned out just right. It's all about image. That's unfortunate, but they are also far from perfect.
Did I just defend Obama? Yep, I think I just did! It's shameful I know….
Hypocrite!, you are just like the peoples Jesus was warning us about, when he was speaking about hypocrites, answer the peoples questions, you are bashing Obama for not helping, when he already did help. but the question is what are you doing to help these peoples, if so what is stopping you from helping them?, please go and help these peoples, since you are so worry about them. but you are willing to do nothing while letting others do it for you
Look up the word hypocrites i'll be right back to show you, a link of how Obama has already helped. the million's of peoples.. by the way please go back to school. Kentucky is part of the South east not mid west

KY Governor: Obama people 'hit the ground running' on storm
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (CNN) — Kentucky's governor is praising the Obama administration's prompt reaction to the fierce wintry weather that slammed his state.
"They really hit the ground running," said Steve Beshear, interviewed by CNN. "They're working very hard to get all the equipment and supplies here that we need."
Crews have been working to restore power and water service to hundreds of thousands of people. Beshear said that while he realizes "nothing moves fast enough," he said the federal assistance "has been a great help to us so far."
Beshear, a Democrat, explained that when the first wave of bad weather came through on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, officials realized that they needed additional help.
"I called the White House directly at that time. I had my other folks talking to FEMA, but I went straight to the top because we needed fast help," he said.
He said he spoke to the director of intergovernment relations and said she walked Kentucky's paperwork through. He said President Obama called him and told him he was announcing an emergency declaration for the state.
"I can't tell you how appreciative we were," the governor said. "He not only expressed his concern, but he obviously had the Kentuckians in his thoughts and prayers, and he communicated that to us."
Strange but I do not see people stranded on their rooftops in Kentucky right now.
I also don't see people floating around dead either.
Maybe these folks are sitting inside next to their fireplaces.
Do you really call downed electrical lines a disaster?
He doesn't need an excuse, he's Obama. All hes gonna do is Sit in the Oval office and puff ciggs all day. Under normal circumstances I would agree with you but, Hell the Steelers were playing for their 6th I had a party also.
Funny thing about Kentucky. They still know what a candle is. And chances are, they probably know how to still make them too.
People make fun of these people all the time. They shouldn't.
I can tell you this though. If i was president, my a55 would be down there helping them.
I like how you say you weren't talking about Katrina and then of course, we all find out that is is really about Katrina. Apples and Oranges, simple as that. If you don't get it, then you once again confirm my theory that Republicans are all retards. Have a nice day.
Wait are you saying it's the Katrina victims fault, they did not make it out alive, how heartless are you, to blame the victims of who's lives was taken because of Katina, no i disagree because my parents raise me better then to say that, what happen on that day is no body's fault the peoples who die was Innocent. i really can't believe you would say that. it's like saying the victims of 9'11 was there own fault. please do the right thing, and say you're sorry for making that comment
i can't believe you would say something like that
I do agree with you that this should be a major priority Americans are in need we as americans need to help.Comparisomes are not neciserry .We as americans still have major regions that need our help and will. Mississippi kentucky I hear you lets help americans that need help and have needed help for years, Dont forget americans need help. HELP US. PLEASE i asked nicely.
Why, so he then can listen to you whine that he should be back in Washington doing something about the nation's economy.
And, no, Bush was not supposed to change the direction of Katrina; he was supposed to initiate preparation for a storm that he was told (in person) three days in advance was certain to cause catastrophic devastation in a specific geographic area. But then, he probably should have done something in August 2008 when he received the report he had commissioned from the CIA entitled, "Bin-Laden determined to attack in US", that specifically warned about the possibility oh hijacking aircraft in order to attack America's most prominent financial (New York) and political (DC) symbols.
Finally, I work because I choose to and because it is what I do; and I figure that my contribution (which I donate directly to the IRS) of $100,000 annually is sufficient.
I believe that this question was already asked today. And people answered. I don't know what Obama's plans are for that. You'd have to ask him. But I do know this, Bush took his darn good time heading down to see the ruins of New Orleans where the majority of poor people of color lived. Don't want to hear about how he "couldn't, he had to wait, yada, yada, yada". He sure got to that other disaster pretty quickly (like lightening actually) to observe the damages and get the people help expeditiously. Whole different place there, and a whole different group of people. It was like New Orleans was in a whole other country like Iraq or somewhere. Definitely not in the 'America'. Like who really cared? The Mayor, Governor, AND the President are all to blame for deserting those people. Many who could not just up and leave. The whole thing was horrible! News sources all over the world were talking about it and in total shock. Don't care about your silly thumbdowns either. They don't make or break me lol. Heck, this is cyberspace, and does not affect my life lol! Please!
You are a "hypocrite" too then. You just said that the people were aware of the ice storm that was headed towards them. Why didn't they just "leave" then? How stupid.
he is too busy partying it up. obama doesnt know anything.
Shut up with this already. I'm from Massachusetts, and 350,000 people here, including myself, lost power for days, even weeks. With the power outages in NH as well, about 405,000 people in New England lost power, and Bush never stopped by. He did the same thing Obama did; he declared a federal state of emergency and sent in national guardsmen to clear the debris from the roads. I don't care that Bush never visited us; as much as I hate the guy, his response was proportionate. You can't compare mass power outages caused by ice storms with massive flooding. No one froze. There's shelters available. If anyone in Kentucky did freeze to death, that would be surprising, since it's about 50-something degrees there. No one is starving; supermarkets have back-up generators.
Please. Did you care when Fitchburg MA lost power for two weeks, with a foot of snow on the ground and temperatures below zero?
What, people in KY are more important than people in MA to you? Why weren't you up in arms about Bush not personally visiting Fitchburg residents? Did you even know that the city's 45,000+ population went two weeks without power and suffered through multiple blizzards without heat? Hypocrite much?
I'm a Bush-hating liberal, but I never was bothered by his lack of action when hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents lost power. Bush and Obama followed the same procedure. What, is Obama supposed to move into his fridge because people in KY don't have power? That would be like me saying that Bush should have stuck his head in the freezer when I went two days without power, and the next town over went two weeks.
